Yes silicone. Very flexible not hard but has great shock resistance if you ever drop it.

Yes I believe it is, has thicker sides and a thinner back. It is not cumbersome or big. I've dropped my phone (terrible I know) but it protects excellently and would HIGHLY recommend this case. It comes with three different button choices to make it easier to find in one's pocketbook or briefcase (same color as case, red and yellow were my options with the Blue Cover) . Definetly worth the money, great value!
