I'm no expert, but the TiVo Roamio OTA device uses a broadband connection (and $15/mo service fee) to connect your TiVo Roamio OTA device to Tivo services, such as your TV channel guide info, Season Pass features, and most notably, streaming services, such as Netflix, VUDU, Hulu Plus, Amazon Video, YouTube, Pandora, etc. Without a broadband connection, you should probably consider the Channel Master DVR+ instead, because without the TiVo Service, the TiVO Roamio OTA device would behave similarly to an old VCR, and you must manually schedule your recordings by knowing the channel, date and time of future programs in order to record them (no Season Pass, TiVo Suggestions, etc.) The TiVo Service subscription also gives you mobile device control over your TiVo recordings, especially when you're not sitting in front of your TV. The attached CNET review (and user comments) may assist: http://www.cnet.com/products/tivo-roamio-ota/ Hope this helps.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. You are required to subscribe to the TiVo service to use TiVo. You can use your broadband connection to connect your TiVo receiver to the internet to allow the device to do its registration and updates including information for the channel guides. The broadband connection also allows access to Netflix and other streaming services through the TiVo receiver. A connection is required to use the service. In the past this may have required a dial up connection.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. It means you need to have an internet connection to receive the guide and program your unit.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. That's the only drawback to this machine. You must have the tivo service @ $15/month for it to be much good. It hooks up to this service wirelessly to a broadband router or with an ethernet cable.. It enables you to see all the programing and easily set record times. It also lets you access to on line services like Net Flix Youtube.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.TiVO requires that you pay their $14.99/mo fee to receive their TV Menu of searchig. The 'Internet' connection allows you access to your streaming services such as Netflix, HULU, Amazon Prime, etc...
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. The tivo OTA works with your broadband connection, wirelessly via wifi and connects to a digital antenna. You plug the digital antenna into the tivo box and it receives all OTA or over the air channels in your area, and will display program information for them, and record them, as you wish.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. For OTA you just need the antenna. However, the Tivo also requires that you have broadband so that the Tivo can obtain the TV schedule and details of the show episodes. I have wireless but the Tivo can also connect directly to your broadband cable.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. If im understanding you correctly, this means that in order to use the TiVo guide information and streaming services (Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime) you still need a high speed internet connection (cable or DSL 5Mbs or faster)
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I think they are trying to say that you have to have Internet in order to use the channel guides and to schedule recordings.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. The Roamio OTA requires an internet connection to download the program guides and to update its software. And of course, if you want to stream Netflix or other streaming service, you will need a broadband connection. It will work with OTA signals if the internet connection is temporarily lost, though.
