Yes may ABSOLUTELY replace your cable boxes for Tivo. Unsure how familiar you are with Tivo, but there is a small investment upfront for years if cable company savings. The TiVo must be purchased as well as a lifetime subscription per box . Check that out on TiVo.com . The first configuration I had was the most simple. I had the main TiVo you are referring to in my living room and connected Tivo Minis ( x 2 ) in two other rooms. Via my home network I used 2 of the TiVo Plus' tuners to watch the Tivvo Minis. It's great!! The best part about this configuration is that the TiVo Mini comes with lifetime service so no need to pay anything aside from the purchase price of the Minis. BUT they MUST be used in tandem with a "hub" ( any Tivo Roamio box ). Last but certainly not least, you do need a cable card from Comcast to make it pick up your channels. It also supports OnDemand! Which is awesome! The first cable cars is free and any additional is around 1.50 month. Make sure to pick up an M-Card so it has multi stream capabilities. ( hence the M ). DO NOT LET ANYONE TELL YOU TIVO IS INCOMPATIBLE WITH COMCAST. Please respond if you'd like more detailed instruction or advice on the subject. Long live TiVo!
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. The Roamio will work with Comcast. You need the multicast card ($1.50 per card) which is less expensive than the Comcast DVR. To access channels in another room purchase a TiVo-Mini for the additional televisions. They use one of the Roamio tuners to provide a channel to the second television.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. The DVR by itself will only work on one TV. You would need a romio remote to connect the second TV. But you can stream to mobile devices with the Romio Plus. Yes, you need a Comcast card. But, Comcast will give you a $2.50/mo credit for bringing your own equipment. So, you don't pay them anything for the card, they pay you. And you only need one card. The extra Roamio remote units you might want to get will connect directly to the Romio Plus, no card needed. 1 Roamio Plus will support up to 12 Roamio remote units.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. You would need the Roamio Plus as your main DVR on the 1st TV and 1 Tivo mini for the 2nd TV. The Comcast cable card is free at their store locations.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. You need a cable card for the Tivo to work. They usually run ~$5.00 a month on Verizon, I would think the same for Comcast. The Tivo will only work with one TV, but if you buy a Tivo Romeo (4 tuners) you can also add a Tivo Mini Box and use that in your 2nd room, and the Tivo Mini doesn't require another cable card. So you will need to buy a Tivo Romeo + Tivo Mini. You can also add another Tivo Mini if you have another room. Right Now the Tivo Mini is ~$150.00 and includes lifetime service.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I replaced 5 tivos with one roamio plus and 4 minis. When I did it lifetime service on the minis was an extra $100. It was still well worth it. In my area after the one free Comcast cable card each additional cablecard was a whopping $9 so the system paid for itself very quickly. I asked Comcast why they didn't charge $100 for each additional card and they said there isn't reason they couldn't. They thought that might be gouging! I use the built-in Moca networking and it works perfect.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I replaced 3 Comcast HD DVRs and 3 HD boxes with a Roamio Plus and 5 Minis networked through my existing coax network. I did upgrade all of my splitters with 2.4GHz splitters from CableMatters.com found on Amazon and also installed a MoCA filter to keep my network contained to my house. You get a M-Card free from Comcast if you return all of their boxes (you're paying for cable service and that's the only way you can get it so they have to provide you one). Works great and I'm very happy to pay up front for the Tivos to avoid $90/month in rental fees.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. You would need to have the Roamio plus on your "main" TV and a TiVO "mini" on your other TV's. I don't have Comcast..I have Verizon and yes, you do need to get (rent) a cable card for the Roamio. Mine is about $5-$6/month. Also note...you DO have to pay to subscribe to TiVOs service.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I just bought a Tivo Roamio with 2 Tivo Minis and I now no longer have any Comcast equipment, except a cable card in the DVR. This setup gives us far more features and saves money. Tivo Minis will pay for themselves in about a year in saving over Comcast Set-top box fees. The Tivo itself will take about three years over Comcast DVR fees.
