- Answer Hello, The VIA 1515TM does not need internet service to work, traffic is updated via the traffic receiver/power cable included. You will need a computer with internet connection to update the maps. You can also use coordinates when planning a route or finding a location. Route calculation time is dependent upon a valid GPS signal. By downloading the quickgpsfix file on a regular basis you will decrease the time it takes for the device to lock onto a valid signal and calculate a route. Thanks

QuestionHow does the device get Traffic updates?Does it use your smartphone or is it a directly connected? Will it require a smart phone app?

- Answer It has a traffic device built into the car charger, it does not require an app on your smartphone, like some other models. But will only give you traffic updates when you have a route planned into it.

QuestionCan you program more than one destination on a trip?

- Answer One way is to program your main destination, then you can program up to 3 (?) "VIA" locations along your way to your main destination. I usually delete the VIA points after arriving to each stop, in case another VIA is needed, such as an impromptu POI (Point Of Interest). Otherwise, for multiple main destinations, the Favorites feature works great to store in memory; to be called up in a few touches very quickly. This unit can store quite a few Favorites.

QuestionConfused over Lifetime Traffic option. Does it still work after Jan 1, 2017? I've read else where that traffic update function is no longer available after that date. Why would it be advertised as having that feature?

- Answer Uses Satellites for Live Updates... NOT your cell... and updates are good for as long as you own it.... at least in my experiences with TOMTOM

QuestionWhat is the purpose of the memory card slot?

- Answer On units with SD memory card slot, you can add memory for additional maps, voices and, in some cases, pictures & music. On a PREVIOUS model, it kept giving me a message to use an SD memory card before I could update to a new map. Be sure to note maximum SD card memory size! The PREVIOUS model SD max was 4Gb, anything larger was just wasted space/$$. The info the GPS saves on the card is proprietary so don't go thinking you can go and view the data on a PC/Etc. Does not work that way. Hope this helps you!

- Answer Hello Sean, The 1515TM does have a pedestrian mode. You can turn this on by tapping the sreen, selecting settings, scroll until you see route planning. In route planning you will be able to change your route types. Thanks, TomTom Community Manager

- Answer This unit has a great quick to find POI (Point Of Interest) in case of emergencies. Has a feature to quickly find exactly the location to give, say, medical or law enforcement so they can assist you with your emergency when you use your mobile phone or other communication device. As with any electronic device, get to know it as well as possible BEFORE you have a particular NEED; which will save you precious (sometimes Life Saving) Time.

QuestionFavorites issueOn my old TomTom when I downloaded maps it deleted all my favorites that I'd saved. On my new 1515tm does that still happen? Why can't that be avoided? That's a big job replacing all those addresses! Thanks!
