Usb port can you play mp4 movies on a flash drive null

I have not been able to get it to play any video files, only pictures in .jpg format when the flash drive is formatted FAT32. You can have the TV format the flash drive to store apps but then it can only be used on the TV. The user manual doesn't say anything about formatting for apps.
