Q: QuestionI bought this device to use in access point mode to function as a Wi-Fi extender in my basement. Can I connect the ethernet cable from my existing modem/router directly to this device? Or do I need a computer?

• A:Answer Yes, the modem model doesn't matter. All that matters to make a router compatible with a router is that there needs to be an ethernet connection available. If there is then you can link the modem to the WAN of the router and as long as that modem is compatible with your ISP you should be able to use the two devices together.

Q: QuestionThis AC4000 unit was recommended for internet and landline phone service. There are no RJ11 PORTS for landline connection....can you please confirm this and offer any alternate suggestions. Do they offer an ethernet to RJ11 adapter?

• A:Answer Not sure who recommended the router for LAN line but that's not a feature available on TP-Link routers. Perhaps they were talking about a VOIP phone which uses ethernet and the internet to provide phone service.

• A:Answer Yes. It can be shut off. You just need to give it a different password from the 5G. I use the 2.4 for my lights outside. And have a different password for it. The wi-fi for everything else is 5G. Just make sure you change the automatic sign in to manual or it will automatically go to that whenever you are close to router.

Q: QuestionIs the model you are selling the latest, V3 ? Some sellers list that they are selling V3. Implying that V1 and V2 are older models.

• A:Answer I'd imagine this is the newest model. The V1 actually had a quad core processor instead of a dual core, and stopped production quite a few years ago. V2 and V3 only differed by the firmware they shipped with, and doesn't matter much, as any critical updates can be pushed out to the router after purchase. Any purchase at this will almost certainly be a V3, or V2 at the EARLIEST, which are really no different. Plus, you'd be lucky if you could manage to get ahold of a V1.

• A:Answer This guy is actually just an access point for wifi not a modem. So you will need a esperar model if ya don’t have one already. As far as connecting a hard drive to it you should have no problem just have to plug the Ethernet cable into one of the ports on the back. And you should be able to see it show up on your network
