I'm not sure what you're wanting to do, but "moving your landline telephone number to a mobile phone is possible if you are staying in the same geographic area, but you should check with the wireless carrier you want to use to make sure the company can handle it." Secondly, if you just want a cell phone just for when you're out and about, any phone service plan will do and no need to cancel your landline. I like the pay as I go plans because I don't text or call much either. It's just a safety net for me in case of emergencies. I still have a land line with an answering machine, old school they call it. If you want to go into a smart phone, check different companies out before you decide, they all have pros and cons, and so do various cellphones. Tracfone costs $20.00 every 3 months, so that's very reasonable. Their customer service is not great, and can be a serious problem if you'll need it to transfer over, so I'd recommend just get a secondary phone and give the people you contact the cell number if you want them to have it, that's easy enough. You'll have to be patient with the process, it can be daunting for 1st timers.
