I don't know why everyone wants to make this answer hard, like they're a member of some secret geek tech club. Think of it like changing record speeds on an old vcr. My recorder will let me record up to 6 hrs of video on a standard DVD-R. And just like Video tape the more you record on the disc the more you lose in video quality . However , I notice it very little on most things I record . Some things are worse , not terrible to me , but it's a personal preference and eye of the beholder thing . Dual layer DVD + R's will let you record longer than that . However , your machine mist be compatible with them . You simply use your record speed with your remote like you did with a vcr. All reorders are different and have different modes. Think Beta 1, 2 and 3 vcr's. I prefer making longer recordings with different programming line ups, etc. So I don't have to get up every hour or so and change the discs . Some people have to have the best quality possible, but for my purposes and tastes I don't . But talking about compression and telling people the they to buy a blue ray burner isn't very helpful or true in most cases
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Yes,your recorder sets the max hours, mine can record 8hrs
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. You can but the quality of sound and picture won't be as good.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. It all depends upon the video compression being used and the quality of the video recorded. 120 minutes is the maximum average quality estimate. If you want high quality and need more than 120 minutes, suggest using a Blu Ray. You can purchase an external USB Blu-Ray burner from Best Buy for about $100. Otherwise, consider burning your video onto multiple DVDs. Everyone needs a break to grab something to eat and drink every couple of hours anyhow. I use the LG - 8x External USB 2.0 Blu-ray Disc Double-Layer DVD±RW/CD-RW Disc Rewriter - Black. It's a very good burner and the price is great at $99 at Best Buy.
I would recommend:
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. The amount of time is dependent on the MPG2 or MPG4 video capture compression ratio. The compression ratio is controlled by the software for the video capture device/recorder. An average compression of 9.7 Mbit/s will give 60 minutes on a 4.7 Gb disc. If the average compression is lowered to 2.5 Mbit/s it will give 240 minutes on a 4.7 Gb disc. The higher the compression the better the video quality.
