Double Layer means that instead of 4.7 Gb Capacity (Single Layer) it has 8.5 Gb Data Capacity to save (Almost Double the capacity of a Single Layer DVD). The Laser Beam on your Disc Player/RECORDER first burns the first layer, and then it does a second pass automatically burning a second layer, for a total of almost Double Data Capacity. Good for saving more Data (Digital Information). Original DVD Movies are recorded on DVD DL (Dual Layer) because it has more capacity to record the Movie, Audio languages, Subtitles, and Bonus Features; and sometimes Enhanced Data for Computer DVD Players (Enhanced Data features like software, etc, that are available only on a computer like PC or Apple, etc, not on TV DVD Players). You can burn on Disc your own non-copyrighted Movies, or Back-Up your Movies for your own personal use, if you have software that decrypts the protection. But due to copyright, maybe there are no commercial Software available to Back-up your movies, and if you do back-up, you're not supposed to sell copies, rent or even lend, no matter if you don't get profit, not supposed to gift them, if the original DVD are copyrighted. Back-up may only play on the device it was recorded, or on compatible devices. This is to avoid copyrights infringement, to avoid piracy, and keep lower prices for we customers. FBI agencies take care of privacy, so try to do things as permitted, don't get yourself on trouble. If you own the rights to the Data you are burning on Disc, you can freely do whatever you want, according to law. You can also save your Photos, and or your Music, or Videos on most formats. Music saved on DVD's can't be played on Music CD Players. Only on DVD-Players, if it plays formats like Mp3 or WMA, etc., but on Blu-rays you can play all formats, if you learn, reading the Manual. You can learn more about all that, searching the Internet on Google.com or Bing.com and searching the information you want, and any technical data you are not familiar with. Hope you can understand all this. Read your Disc Player Manual. There is much information available online for your electronic devices on Community Forums online.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. This disc has 2 recordable dye layers. Each layer can store almost the same amount as a single capacity disc.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. The double layer or Dual Layer disc, also called DVD-R9, is a derivative of the DVD-R format standard. DVD-R DL discs hold 8.5 GB by utilizing two recordable dye layers, each capable of storing a little less than the 4.7 gigabyte (GB) of a single layer disc, almost doubling the total disc capacity.
