Yes, you need a VHS player that can output through RCA and/or S-Video connections. If your player requires any specialized adapters or cables, such as ones often used by camcorders, you will need to supply that cable as well. Since this is a product for Windows, you will need a compatible Windows computer per the System Requirements. If you intend to burn DVDs, you will also need a working DVD writer built into or connected externally through a USB port to the computer.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. This works by connecting your own device to it with RCA cables. You supply the VCR, Video Camera or Photo player.

If you want to convert Sony 8mm tapes for example, you need an 8mm tape player or camera to play the tapes. This product comes with a little digital box and cables plus software to connect your VHS or whatever tape player you use to your computer vias USB.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. You need something to play the media with because it just includes a USB cord and small computer box. It worked well to back up my old 8mm tapes and hi8 tapes. I used it with my vhs player just connect the rca cables and press play. I only used easy mode.
