- Answer To clarify the answer by the expert, the M21d-H8R includes the "Display Remote" with a LED Display that shows selected settings, but the keys themselves are not back lit.

QuestionI saw this wall mounted on the Vizio website. Is that the intended deployment or can you place it flatly on a tv stand and still have good performance?

- Answer It has speakers facing forwards and upwards as well as the downward facing subwoofers. I can confirm that it does sound good laying flat as well as wall mounted, but just make sure if it's wall mounted that the side labeled up is pointing up and if it's laying flat that the long side that has the opening is facing towards the tv / away from the viewer.

QuestionWill it keep commercials and show at same volume level? My brother wears hearing aids and commercials blow him away.

- Answer There is a DTS TruVolume setting that is supposed to do this. From the manual: Press the TVOL button to enable/disable TruVolume. When ON, TruVolume provides a consistent and comfortable volume level for a more enjoyable listening experience.

QuestionBecause of the bracket design, when wall-mounted the speaker orientation is flipped (left side is now right side and right is left) compared to sitting flat on base. Does the sound bar somehow know this and automatically swap output channels?

- Answer Answering my own question here. After seeing no on-line complaints about this I decided to take a chance and try it out by drilling holes to wall mount the unit, and the answer is "YES!" . The sound bar somehow recognizes it is wall mounted and swaps the audio channels to keep right and left channels on the correct sides. Very smart design.

- Answer Yes you can use optical. This sound bar is the best I ever had. I got it because I purchased my first smart tv. The bar comes with every cable you’ll need to hook it up in different ways. I have mine hooked up using HMDI ARC which is the best in my opinion. If you purchase this sound bar you won’t have to buy any cables whatsoever.

- Answer You can connect it to a PC if you have the right connections on it. It accepts HDMI In, Optical audio, Or AUX (headphone jack cable).

- Answer No, just Virtual X. I think the Atmos banner is meant for the M Series line, which includes a beefier soundbar that's coming out later. Virtual X does a pretty decent job simulating a wider soundstage across all content, but it doesn't simulate a surround effect and it lacks the degree of precision of dedicated Atmos content, IMO.

- Answer Hello Garry, Yes you could connect a CD player to this sound bar without needing an amplifier. You could also connect it to your TV at the same time, and switch inputs to select which source you are playing from.

- Answer Of course it can. Just note that the audio will be overhead and not ear level. Having a soundbar ear level really helps the audio dynamics. This unit also has virtual DTS X which simulates overhead surround sound.

- Answer First, is the "one HDMI port" (presumably, the TV's HDMI port) an "ARC" HDMI port? To check, please take a look at the port to see if it's labeled as such; or you may need to check the TV's documentation. If so, then installation is relatively easy as you'd plug the "dish box" into the soundbar's HDMI-in port and then connect the TV to the HDMI ARC port on the sound bar(these two ports are on the VIZIO M-series bar). If ARC is not available on the TV, then hopefully the TV has an audio out port such as an optical port or RCA port or has bluetooth capability.

- Answer I've hooked this up to 3 different tvs. All different brands and it's connected easily to all 3. The TV remote does control the volume of the speaker. The speaker powers on/off when the TV powers on/off. The speaker comes with its own remote to change settings but that all its useful for.

QuestionI have a tv in my kitchen area hanging on a wall. I would like to add a sound bar to it, my question is if I plug it directly into the tv or the cable box will they be able to power it or does this need an amplifier connect to it also?

- Answer Your question is not clear when you use the terms "plug in" or "power it". I'll still try to answer. 1) The sound bar has an internal amplifier, so no external amplifier is needed. 2) The sound bar has a AC plug that must be connected to a 110V (US) wall outlet to power the amplifier in the sound bar. See manual, page 9 : http://cdn.vizio.com/misc/KBImages/models/m21dh8/manual.pdf 3) The sound bar several ways to get the audio signal from the source (TV). If your TV has an HDMI ARC port and that is used to plug into the sound bar, then the sound bar volume and power will be controlled by the TV. So, when you turn up the volume of the TV, the sound bar volume will go up. Additionally, if you turn on/off the TV, the sound bar will be turned on/off. This last feature is part of why the "power it" term is a little confusing. 4) I don't know if cable boxes have HDMI ARC features (I suspect not) so it is not likely you will want to connect the cable box directly to the sound bar. That is OK though. If you connect the sound bar to the TV, whatever sound that would normally come out of the TV speakers will come out of the sound bar.

- Answer It depends on the ports available on your "older Bravia TV". Does it have an HDMI ARC port? If not, how about an "optical out" port or "RCA out" port?
