• The phone app lets you use you phone as a remote. It also lets you connect the sound bar to the internet if you interested in use the Chromecast features. BUT, if you just want to connect it to your TV for theater quality audio- you don't need the app at all.

• You don’t need the phone app to use the sound bar. The Vizio SmartCast app is an added feature to stream music or use as a digital remote.
