I do not know the Cobra Surveillance system, so I do not know if you can install it as a working hard drive. However, I do have a Sannce Surveillance system and I back-up my 2TB DVR weekly using this device with no problem. All I do is insert the device USB cable into the DVR and go through the steps that my surveillance system requires to perform a back-up and it is done. I allow my surveillance system to overwrite once it is full because I am backing up weekly, so it doesn't matter to me if it overwrites recordings from a long time ago. I am sure using it as a backup device covers what you need, correct?
