“Is there a real difference between the Easystore and the My Passport models besides the Hardware Encryption (which I have no clue what that does) and the Password Protection? Just trying to justify spending less money if I can. TIA.”

That said you get an extra year warranty password protection and the 5tb passport does work with Time machine. I own both only because at the time, one was a better buy than the other when i needed space. Really the speed of transfer and reliability is the same.
