Q: QuestionI have an HP Pavilion with Windows 7 and need a backup. Is this difficult to install and use seeing I am not an IT type. Mostly I have Word documents, lots of pictures, videos, nothing extraordinary. Thanks.

• A:Answer No, it's not hard. Just plug in the cord to the hard drive and plug the USB side into the computer. Use windows explorer to move files as you normally do. Western Digital does usually have software to manage the hard drive and update things... they try to make things "easier", and most times I can't stand using it and it makes things more complicated. For simplicity, just drag and drop your files. Also, just remember to use eject the hard drive before pulling the plug from the computer, in case you didn't know that already. Don't know how to do that then do a google search for "HOW TO SAFELY REMOVE HARDWARE IN WINDOWS 7". :)

• A:Answer Setting up backups would be something you would do via software and you could use a drive like this one as the backup destination. I bought it to backup my Western Digital Network Attached Storage. I plugged this drive into the NAS and used the software in the NAS to schedule a weekly backup increment. This drive doesn't come with any particular software, but if you want a basic scheduled backup, most operation systems already include a simple program to accomplish this. An aftermarket program will likely have more options - like do you want a mirror of your computer's hard drive or just a copy of the data files? Do you want multiple save points or just one? etc.

• A:Answer Anything that supports usb, doesn't matter which usb generation, provided you have the correct cable. Comes with a 2 to 3 micro. the 3 micro goes into the drive, the usb 2 into your computer. If it is of vista age, it is probably the gigantic square usb. you just have to find the right cable adapter.
