QuestionHow many rpms? "High transfer speed" is useless information if isnt atleast 7200 rpms. Is this meant for storage only or can be it be reliably used on a daily basis for running installed programs and games?

- Answer This unit uses WD Red drives which are 5400rpm. The unit comes striped (RAID 0) so you would get more speed than the rpm implies. I find the read/write speeds acceptable. However, I am using this for external storage in mirrored (RAID 1) mode. For gaming I use SSD. I have an internal 1TB SSD and an external 2TB SSD. 3TB more than meets my gaming needs. RAID drives are designed for always on so a 5400RPM drive is optimal. The drives are user replaceable so you can always put in a faster RAID drive. WD does have the Red Pro line which are 7200RPM.

QuestionHow does this price compare to building your own 16TB NAS? Are the two 8TB drives included here a better/worse deal than one could find elsewhere?

- Answer First off this isn't a NAS. Prices on this drive vary as it goes on sale. But when I bought mine, it costs less than what a pair of 8TB Red drives would cost. So on cost alone this is a better deal. If you want the best configuration you would be better off buying an empty unit and adding the best drives you can afford.

QuestionCan I plug my western digital older drives to this drive and copy over all to this drive. for example can I plug my passport ultra and other USB drives to this drive? I am trying to consolidate all my drives to one huge drive

- Answer This drive does not have a LAN connection. It is a USB attached drive. Western Digital has Cloud products that connect to your network.

QuestionHow old is this drive system. I am told our MyBookLive is considered to be a Legacy device and it was recommend we update to the My Cloud Expert Series EX2 Ultra which seems to be the successor to this unit.

- Answer My Cloud drives are LAN drives that connect either via Ethernet or WiFi so that they are shareable among many computers. The My Book Duo is a USB attached drive that attaches directly to one computer. They are two totally different kinds of drives used for different reasons.

QuestionAre the two 8TB drives included? If so what speed drives are they?

- Answer This contains two 8TB WD Red drives. Best Buy sells these or you can look them up on the Western Digital page for specs. Formatted with Raid-0 my computer shows there is 7.99TB of usable storage. The amount of "unusable" storage on drives is constant and not dependent on the total size of the drive. It is a couple of megabytes; so as drives have moved into the multiple terabytes the "unusable" amount has shrunk to an insignificant percentage of the total.

- Answer You should mention whether you have a Mac or Windows computer. A Mac does not need additional software. I don't believe Windows does either.
