In reply to Dmost: You asked for an update. Process went without a hitch. After a 10 hour cloud backup session (I have about 1.5 terabytes of data), I pulled both disks out of the DL2100 and dropped them into the EX2 Ultra. System went through whatever processes it goes through, and in the end the full system was on the new unit, including shares and (surprising to me) two iSCSI target disks. The only hiccup was that the new system claimed that both HDs had failed their S.M.A.R.T. tests. That warning went away with the new firmware installation and reboot. So it appears that OS5.xx makes disks compatible at least between DL2100 and EX2 devices.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. You can transfer the disks from an old My Cloud EX2 or My Cloud Mirror. I have done the same thing with three of these drives. Just be careful to discharge any static electricity before handling disks by touching metal. Also the new enclosure will recognize that the RAID array was built in another unit and it will ask you if you want to incorporate it into the new system... CLICK OKAY to accept...set up your new OS5 accounts and you are in business! You can download the new OS5 my cloud app and keep your phone backed up and you can set a static ip if you want to map the drive shares to a drive on your PC.

I will find the unit (say in the morning) has shut itself down: the two blue lights on the disk units are out but the lights on the network ports are functioning normally. Device is inaccessible from the network. Power switch doesn't work. BUT if I pull the adapter cord out of the unit and plug it back in immediately, everything wakes up, runs normally until next time (which could be 2 hours or 24 hours from now). Is this more likely to be the external adapter failing or something internal? Seems to me it would be the latter since the network port lights indicate power is getting to the unit. Thanks for your help!
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. If the old one is interchangeable like my cloud EX2 then yes. if not no.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Yes, you can. The WD User Manual (My Cloud Personal Storage Drive User Manual) has a section for set-up. It will perform some tests when you initialize the drive. Retain the settings which were originally set-up for the drive set your are replacing (Section 8) and review Section 11 (Configuration Settings) and 12 (Replacing a Drive) prior to performing the physical actions required. Your feedback would be appreciated for what you encountered in your adventure.... Good luck.
