QuestionIs the hard drive capacity per drive, or total? This is 8TB 2 Bay. So does it have two 8TB drives or two 4TB drives?

- Answer Two, 4 TB drives, 8 TB total, second 4 TB backs up auto the first 4 TB drive. Different ways to configure - User manuals available on line at WD and Best Buy. What's nice is that you get free 30 day toll free customer support at WD, that really works, and they really help if you get hung up for some reason. (Not to short change Best Buy Geeks, but the WD 'horse's mouth' has certain advantages, since they are specialists in WD MyCloud).

- Answer I have not pulled the drives out but the information on the box indicates WD Red drives are used. Hope this and the photos help.

QuestionCan you backup remotely? My son is in college, but we'd like to be able to back up his phone/laptop to this. Is that possible? Also, does it support separate secure accounts?? I'd like my business files separate. Thanks!

- Answer Remote backup is more of a cloud solution. I would recommend looking into a cloud backup service such as Carbonite. It can backup both laptop and mobile devices given sufficient internet connectivity. A network attached storage (NAS) is more for providing storage to your local area network (i.e home or office). There are ways to allow secured remote connectivity into your network but that is beyond the scope of this product. For typical home usage, the network share would be visible to all. Providing secure access can happen through password protection or having a domain setup with individual accounts, but this is also beyond the scope of the product.

QuestionCompatibility doesn't cover current Mac OS's like Sierra or Monterey; do you know if this EX2 is compatible?

- Answer Yes it works on both Sierra and Monterey….. but if you are upgrading you will have to uninstall WD Discovery after you update and then re-install the WD Discovery app for Mac.

- Answer I've never tried it but I seriously doubt it. The device looks like a peer computer, and can present its storage as shared disk drives. It only connects through Ethernet, either wired or wifi. The Mac supports it just fine as a NAS device. Don't know if this answers your question.

- Answer Hello, Please be informed that My Cloud EX2 Ultra needs to be connected to the router using an ethernet cable and the computer needs to be on the same network, if you want to access the device on the local network. Please refer to the following resources: For Windows: https://support-in.wd.com/app/answers/detailweb/a_id/9323/ and For Mac : https://support-in.wd.com/app/answers/detailweb/a_id/24148/ You could access the device remotely on mycloud.com. However, We have the tested and designed the device with Windows and Mac.

- Answer Hello TXVictor, Please be informed that you cannot connect the SSD drives but HDDs with the following file systems NTFS HFS+ FAT32 exFAT can be connected to the My Cloud Ex2 Ultra device. Also, you can backup the data of HDDs to the My Cloud Ex2Ultra device by connecting them to the USB ports on the device but not vie versa. - Answer Hello, Yes, you can achieve this by downgliding photos from both iCloud and google photos to your MacBook Pro and then transferring them into a single folder on your My Cloud EX2 Ultra device. - Answer You will find this to be a fast reliable storage unit. I have used QNap and other manufacturers NAS in the past and I was impressed with the speed of the set-up. It operates at a high level and moving files to it over the network should not be a problem if you have a gigabit connection.
