- Answer Sort of but not like you are referring to. This is a network storage device so you connected to your switch or router via ethernet then other network devices can access it. It’s not something that you just USB into a TV for movies.

QuestionCan i access my data if the internet is down? I mean is also stored locally? And as far as security how secure is this?

- Answer Hi Ron, Please let us confirm that the My Cloud Home requires an internet connection to authenticate the account. As this device gives access to the user to their individual account so that no one can interfere with another user's data and privacy can be maintained. The backend network mycloud.com can be seen as a proxy network. All security-relevant authentications are done here. After passing the initial authentication, the connection to your individual device is managed by an encrypted VPN tunnel, for security reasons. Need Help? - Answer Yes, it does work with Alexa. When you login to your home.mycloud.com you will need to go to the "Do More" section and find the My Cloud Alexa Skill.

QuestionCan I store other type of files to be used in real time? Like word, excel, Adobe illustrator, Photoshop, etc.? I need this to have files accessible to other person, modify the file and keep the most updated file accessible for both of us.

QuestionCan I use this as an external storage cloud, that would replace me having to use a flash drive to keep saving files when I work on different computers? Tired of having to save to a jump drive just to work on the same file on different computers!

- Answer Yes you can. I have it configured at my home connected directly to my Wi-Fi Router and any of the 4 laptops at home can save or retrieve from it and I also have the ability to connect to it from work over the internet and retrieve or save files to it. I believe it will work the same way for smart phones and tablets.

QuestionWill this device allow me to use just this and not have to back up to apple cloud?

- Answer Yes, you can backup your files to the device. A caveat: a corporate cloud will have its own backup systems so any hardware failures on it would be automatically protected. Your WD device only has one drive. If (when?) It fails, you'll be out of luck. For better security consider the duo version. This has 2 drives which can be configured as RAID1 (one drive mirrors the other one) so a single drive failure would not be catastrophic.

QuestionDo you have to have this near your router in order for it to back up? My computer isn't close to my router, and need to understand if you need to connect direct. My assumption is that once it is set up it will sit near the router and act like a cloud.

- Answer It is not Wi-Fi enabled. It needs a hard ethernet connection. In my setup, my router is in my study but the drive is behind my TV in the living room. I have a Wi-Fi extender in the living room which links with the Wi-Fi modem/router in the study . The ethernet port on the extender feeds an ethernet switch and my TV, Blu-ray player, Xbox cloud device and one other item are fed thru the remaining ports on the switch. Each device "thinks" it's on a wired ethernet connection.

QuestionI have a roku TV and I was wondering if I could use this to play video files from my tablet & laptop wireless on the tv. Right now i have to mirror them from the laptop or play them through the roku app so i can't really use them while they are playing.

- Answer I am not a ROKU expert, but I do this all the time with my AT&T TV box and Fire TV/Fire Sticks. It should work with ROKU, I use PLEX and I am sure ROKU allows that app.

- Answer When it comes to your smartphone device. You have multiple options. Google Drive, Microsoft Cloud, Cell Phone Carrier Cloud Device (Backup), and now access to your NAS Server. You have to decide which route are you going to go which will define how you will continue to share your files located on your smartphone. Your NAS is a free device where you can store your files and they can be accessed from your home network, USB, or the Internet. Providing users access to specific folders containing your files is easier than actual files. You have to decide what route you are going to tack.

QuestionWhat if I had quickly filled up the drive? What are my options? Buy another one of this? Or pop out the 4TB disk and pop-in a bigger disk?

- Answer You can purchase another NAS device. They can mirror each other or configure them as one big drive. Opening the box up to install a bigger drive may not be wise. If you feel that you may need a bigger drive than purchase a larger device or a device with another open bay already there. You may want to look into the MyCloud Home Duo. It already has 2 bays.

Questioni want this for my home but want to back up my work computer to it. My work computer has payroll etc, can i hide that info from the family? legal reasons they shouldnt have access but want them to be able to use the cloud as well for their personal use.
