You may need to reformat the the hard drive. Go to your Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Computer Management -> Disk Management -> Right-Click on the drive to format and then select the file system you would like to use.

My first suggestion is to call WD Support (did you register the drive?) give them the serial number and ask them about a procedure. If there is no solution from them try plugging the drive into other USB ports. If this doesn't work then try it on another computer. By chance did you happen to rename the drive? If so try going back to the original naming. First check all your files and after re-naming re-check the folders or usage to make sure the material on it was not changed or removed.
