i think everyone was piling on rather than actually answering this correctly. NO Mac or product beyond an iOS one has EVER had a lightning port. All Mac's have USBC/Thunderbolt at this point which would work fine with this or *almost* any other USBC device.

USB-C is a great format because it can act as a a conversion hardware switch to let Lightning/Apple Devices work on say, a slightly older iPhone or iPad. USB 3.2 Portable SSD does particularly well with a good 983 MB per second. Slo go for a USB 3.2 Portable SSD if possible. Also, yes you can partition the drive. Even to the point where you can use it for various operating systems like Windows, Mac OS and even iOS and Android.
