No it does not work. You'll have to upgrade your OS. No new hard drives will work for your version, trust me I know my was at 10.5 as well. You're gonna have to purchase a physical copy to update to 10.6 then you can start downloading the free ones to get you to the current requirement for most new hardware like hard drives to be compatible with your Mac. Annoying but there's now other way to do it.
