• A:Answer It's a wireless, portable hard drive. You can use it with a computer without having to plug a USB cable in, you can also download and Android and iOS app that will allow you to view content on the hard drive. Lastly, it has an SD slot letting you plug in a memory card and transfer content to the hard drive which can later be viewed using a PC, smartphone, or tablet.

Q: QuestionWhen I use this wireless drive in an area with out WIFI, I will wire it to my laptop. My question is, does it need to be plugged into an electric outlet when wired to my laptop? Thanks for responses!

• A:Answer No, you don't have to have this plugged into an electrical outlet when using it. This has an internal battery that you should charge before taking it on any trip. That's the only time you would need to have it plugged in.

Q: QuestionDo you have to use WD software to view contents or video? or can you view from web browser (like the Seagate Wireless... software optional)

• A:Answer It comes linked with a Plex interface option. It does not show up like a normal network drive or external device would that is navigated through explorer. Also, in order to be connect to the drive and the internet, you must route your computer's wifi connection through the drive, it slows down your internet connection speed significantly.

• A:Answer Yes it does have ExFat. If I recall correctly, thats how its formatted out the box. BEWARE! WD support is horrible, be extra careful with your drive if you buy one.

Q: QuestionCan I send photos directly from my Canon 6D, that has WiFI, to the Passport Wireless? In that way I do not have to take out the SD card from the camera and insert it into the Passport Wireless.

• A:Answer Absolutely. That is the whole point of this device. I use it for my GoPro footage. What's cool about it is that it doesn't need a laptop to transfer the files from your SD cards. When you get back home, just plug it into your Mac or PC and you should be able to download directly from this device.

Q: QuestionI want to use this hard drive to record programming from my Dish receiver. I need to know if this unit has a USB 2.0 compatible cable, and the hard drive must not use flash memory, and only be a single hard drive disc. Does this hard drive meet these?

• A:Answer yes it has a usb input I believe it is usb 3.0 it uses a standard hard drive no flash or ssd. and it is only one disc. you will need to keep it powered up with the charge adapter the batt. life is about 6 to 8 hours during hard use. as far as the setup for the drive I am not sure. on recording from the dish receiver.

Q: QuestionI am trying to transfer movies from a Dish Hopper 3 to an external hard drive. Dish is telling me I need to have a unit that has an external power source as well as USB. Will this unit work???

• A:Answer That's a tough question. This external hard drive is also a portable battery that can hold a large charge and charge portable devices. I'm not sure exactly what "Dish" 's expectations are. I don't believe this WD hard drive can simultaneously transfer/receive data and be charging, even if it's plugged into an outlet while transferring data. It is programmed to only do one or the other at a time, for temperature regulation. That's my understanding, I hope it helps.
