I set 3 of them up today without the Wemo app. Just added a device in Apple HomeKit then scanned the QR code an was good to go.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. You are required to have the Wemo app, but I did the setup through HomeKit and use the devices exclusively with HomeKit. I occasionally ran into issues going through the Wemo app. The app also handles the firmware upgrades. The box had instructions with the QR codes, it can also be found on the back of the device. You could also enter the code numbers manually.

Here are the requirements before doing so: -Download the latest Wemo App from the App Store®. -Create a Wemo Account. For instructions, click here. -Make sure your mobile device is connected to your home Wi-Fi. -Write down the default Wi-Fi name (e.g., Wemo.Plug.001) located at the side of your Wemo for the following scenarios: If you are unable to scan the HomeKit™ code during setup (for manual code entry) If you are setting up multiple Wemo WiFi Smart Plugs You can also visit this link for more info: (https://www.belkin.com/us/support-article?articleNum=317093).
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. You partially set up using the Apple HomeKit but then it flips you to the Wemo app to do the final configuration with naming the device and what not. Which, because I use it with Alexa I needed to name them and then I use the WeMo app to actually set up rules for the timer aspect of each switch since I used them for lamps and have them turning on and off at random times of the day. So I’m not sure if you could completely avoid the Wemo app for set up but you don’t have to use it after the set up. However, it does have the QR code on the actual device where you just snap the picture of it For set up.
