I just purchased this Whirlpool microwave as part of an entire kitchen suite. I didn't research the Kitchenaid prior to purchase, but I did just review the specs and don't see any other differences. I am quite pleased with the Whirlpool microwave, probably my favorite of the four appliances. It seems to be very thoughtfully designed. For instance, if I put a mug into warm, and choose the 30 secs and go button on the outside, the mug handle stops in the exact same position as when I put in it. I replaced a range hood withe the microwave, the low profile was just what I needed. I also used Best Buy's installation services, they did a good job of converting the electric wires to an outlet and mounting the microwave. In the three weeks I have had it, I have only used the light, 30 sec and open buttons, all of which are on the outside. More detailed controls are available once the door is open, but I have not needed them so far. I can't see any downside to purchasing the Whirlpool vs the Kitchenaid.
