Short answer is no. The microwave comes already setup for recirculate the air in the kitchen, but the cabinet has to be less than 14" deep. It's not mandatory to vent it outside or to the roof. Also, it states on the manual that if the microwave gets too hot from the range cooking temperature it will turn the fan automatically until it cools down and can't turn off manually until is safe again.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.You do not need to cut holes to vent to the roof or to the back wall. The factory configured the venting from the top front to the kitchen. However, you need to cut holes in the bottom of the cabinet to accommodate the 3-prong plug to be plugged in the outlet above. Also 2 holes to support the front of the microhood.
