In terms of unit longevity probably not much difference. Energy efficiency might be a a tiny bit worse with a bottom freezer. Why pay more money for a bottom freezer fridge? It is easier to access the food in the fridge and freezer if you are older or have mobility issues this is huge. If you're young you may find you're better able to manage your food budget with a bottom freezer unit because you can more quickly assess the contents. If something spills in the fridge section it's easier to clean than with a bottom fridge. The mechanics of the pull out freezer section itself don't feel low quality.
