“What is the difference between "built in" and "over the range?"”

This question is for: Whirlpool - 2.1 Cu. Ft. Over-the-Range Microwave with Sensor Cooking - Black Stainless Steel with Printshield Finish

Built-in models install in a cabinet and over-the-range models go over the cooking range and have ventilation built-in to the bottom of them, usually with a range light as well.

Over the range mounts on the bottom of your over the range kitchen cabinet.

Dave, over-the-range microwaves are meant to be installed over a Range to assist with ventilation while built in Microwaves can be installed in most cabinet spaces.
