• You add detergent first and then load your laundry. There are no dispenser for detergent or softener, only bleach. Use a plastic ball for fabric softener.

• No and no. Detergent goes directly in the tub..by you. Softener, you have to use softener downy ball or manual. No dispencer.

• Hi Lynn, for Detergent, add a measured amount of HE detergent or single-dose laundry packets into the basket before adding clothes. For liquid fabric softener with this washer, Whirlpool suggests using the Downy Ball® dispenser. Pour a measured amount of liquid fabric softener into the DownyBall® dispenser, pull the ring tightly to seal it, and place on top of load. We hope this helps!

• I have tried to the ball several times and it never opens. wish i would have known this before, never would have got it. All i get now is clothes full of static.
