Customers enjoy the superb sound quality and comfortable fit of the A40 Wired Stereo Gaming Headset, often citing its lightweight design as a significant plus. However, some users express concerns regarding the length and durability of the cord, as well as the headset's impact on controller battery life and its relatively high price point. A few also mention that the maximum volume could be higher.

All the settings you need are on the adapter it comes with. Easy to adjust/balance game play volume and chat volume to your liking. So you can turn down/up the people you game with online and turn down/up gameplay sound so you can hear footsteps, gunshots, etc and hear where people are at: above or below you on different floors or to the left or right behind walls and closed doors. People I play with say my mic sounds great and I get no echo at all. After you find the balance of sound you like, when you adjust the volume it keeps the same balance of sound. The adapter has a mute button to quickly mute your mic if your wife/girlfriend/parents start complaining that you game to much lol. Only thing I didn't like are the earpads it comes with. I bought different ones for $50 a bit much imo. The A50 earpads are compatible with these A40's. I bought black leather earpads for the A50 headset and swapped them with what these A40's came with. If these are in your budget I highly recommend them. The pic of the green ear pads are the ones the headset came with out of the box, the black ones are the ones I bought for $50. Again the black ones are boxed for the A50 headset and are compatible with the A40. All the magnets on the back of the black earpads dont match up perfectly but they stay on with no problems posted a pic of the headset held upside down and the earpad staying on. Did this just because the boxing said A50. Maybe you can find a pair already boxed with black leather earpads, but I bought what was store that day.

Top notch quality as is expected from Astro. The most comfortable and easy to wear headset that I've ever owned. The sound is great to be coming from a stereo headset and the ease of access for all the extra modes are great. Customization options are great too with the extra kits you can buy.

Insane sound quality and spacial awareness, simple but awesome controls! Customization is great, doesn't require batteries or charging, and can be used with other devices due to included 2.5 cord. Only CON is the cord is a little shorter than I'd prefer.

I have used Turtle Beach headsets for gaming for many years. I got tired of the earpiece breaking off the adjustment band to just have the whole piece hanging by the wires. Started to look into different headsets and was recommended Astro's by a friend online. Decided to buy one.
First impressions were good. The mixamp is a lot like the turtle beach controller adapter, except way better. It has a main volume knob on the bottom, and then a really nice mixer between game volume and chat volume on the front with an LED light that moves to show the amount applied to either side. Has a mute button on the bottom of the volume knob, which I love having the mute right there on the controller and not inline like a lot of other versions or having to flip up the mic to mute. There is also 3 EQ presets you can select from, and as with the game/chat mixer, the LED's signify which EQ setting you are on.
The headset seems to be really good quality construction, and has a flexible boom mic. What I really like about it is the adjustment brackets are made of metal instead of plastic, so I don't see them breaking like all of my Turtle Beaches have. I have a pretty large head, and the headset fits a little snug, but comfortably. The cups are large enough to completely cover most ears. I have longer ears so they don't cover completely but most of the way. The mic clarity seems to be really good. I have gotten a lot of comments on how good and clear my mic sounds online.
The sound quality is great. No, it doesn't give earth shattering bass like there is a subwoofer in your head, but It is very well blended and the directional sounds are on point. Very easy to hear where footsteps are coming from in the game, and I haven't had one disappointment in the sound quality yet in the month I have been using them.
After the month of use though, there are some things that stand out as an annoyance. The mixamp cord to the headset is too short. It is just long enough to set the controller down next to you and it's already stretched out so any head movements are hindered and easy to forget so the controller goes flying if you make any sudden head movements. There is no way to counter that because the cord is hard wired into the mixamp, and not changeable. Also the input jack on the headset is at a terrible angle and is pointed straight up and down so the plug will sometimes rub into your shoulder while gaming. It's a minor annoyance, but enough that it should be addressed.
Also included with the headset is a separate cable to use the headset with your phone or other devices with a headphone jack. Cable has an inline mute button.
Overall is a great headset and is well worth it. Only 4/5 stars though for the minor annoyances I listed above.

Honestly the best pair of head phones I have every purchased! So glad I went with there than the turtle beaches. Turtle beaches are great but these Astro's are in a different league! Very comfortable as well.

ive been gaming for ten years and these are the best. turtle beaches are cheap and break easily, never recommend them to anyone. tried a pair of hyper x's and they echoed in party chat and the sound wheel was faulty so i bought these. a year and a half later they still work perfectly. spend the extra money if you are an everyday gamer. wish the cord was a little longer but its bearable.

This product is a 5 star product for sound quality as well as fit and function. The minor mark against this is when you shut off the xbox the ASTRO's will emit an EXTREMELY LOUD shrieking sound till the controller completely shuts off as well. I am fairly certain this has to do with it drawing it's power from the controller and since the controller is stepping down to shut off it makes the headset SCREAM.
This is a great product and would buy many times over. I do also wish it went louder for people, such as myself who have trouble with lower level sounds.

The headset seemed expensive at first but once you put them on your head and use them you will understand why they cost so much. The surround sound is great and they are super comfortable. They are probably the lightest headset for the Xbox one. My friend say the sound quality of my mic is awesome which is key for any gamer. All around this headset is the best one on the market right now for the Xbox one.

Light and comfy for long hours of play, MixAmp's options of ingame and voice volume controls are very useful, Headphones sound crisp and clean, Microphone picks up voice great with no feedback, Sturdy and made with quality parts.
The only downside and/or negative may be that the MixAmp 'eats' batteries when using a wireless controller.

These have been the best headset I've owned. I've gone through the low-end sets, TB's, and Triton, and these have been the best set for the money. Yes they are a little pricey, but Turtles don't last for what they charge, and while my Tritons had the best sound with true surround sound, they were more expensive and they didn't last either. These have great sound, they are really comfortable once you get them adjusted, and the mic has good pickup without being overly sensitive. I really like the ability to adjust the sound volume and mic on the controller instead of trying to memorize and feel around on the headset while I'm gaming. Total plus!
My only issue with them would be the warning they have about not having the Mixamp plugged into the controller while you do the update. The warning is very small and not right up front at the beginning of the instructions. (If you miss it and do the update, your headphones won't work. Don't freak out, just turn off the console, unplug the Mixamp from the controller, and then turn the console back on. Once it is up and running, plug the Mixamp back in. Also, make sure the plug is REALLY plugged into the headphones. It has a hard push and then click.) Other than those little quirks, these are fantastic headphones and mic combo.

I've spent hundreds on headsets before, valuing them for their vitality to competitive gaming. If you need to hear enemy footsteps, you'll know their pinpoint location with the surround sound. It makes the experience immersive and so long as it's within budget, you won't regret your purchase. If you have a little more, feel free to try the Astros with the mixamp box for an enhanced experience. If you're not ready to dive in, you can buy the additional mixamp box at a later time and it is compatible with this headset.

This headset is heavy in a very good way, it feels like great quality. It feels like it's not even on my head when I put it on with its superior comfortability. The sound is incredible. The quick EQ on the adaptor assures excellence for all listening types. The only thing I would improve is the bass. It does have good bass, but I'm looking for bass that will vibrate my blood.

I had a Turtle Beach Elite Pro that the audio cable went bad on and I had to constantly keep twisting the cable to get a good connection even though it was $200 and just over a year old. This is my first Astro (always preferred Turtle Beach previously) and so far the flat cable seems to resist any twisting issues and it includes the USB attached controls for mute and volume adjustments, which costs an extra $50 for the Turtle Beach equivalent. I still like both companies overall, but I think this Astro A40 is a good value for the money and I have had no issues so far. For those who say to go wireless to avoid this cable problem, i play too long at a stretch where battery life is a constant issue for any wireless models :)
