Customers enjoy the superb sound quality and comfortable fit of the A40 Wired Stereo Gaming Headset, often citing its lightweight design as a significant plus. However, some users express concerns regarding the length and durability of the cord, as well as the headset's impact on controller battery life and its relatively high price point. A few also mention that the maximum volume could be higher.

These are a bit pricey, but I game a lot and wanted something comfortable. The ear muffs on this headset are great, very comfortable, however, I don't know if it's cause of my head size (I didn't think my head was THAT big), but after a few hours the headset feels like its squishing my skull and requires a lot of adjustment.
The plugin adapter "mix amp" is useful for being able to adjust ratios of game sound to party chat on Xbox Live. I don't mess with the EQ settings as there's only really 3 settings, and they're kind of generic, you can't do any fine tuning with them. I'm pretty sure you can with an external Mix Amp, but that's too bulky for me and costs extra.
Sound quality is good for the most part, although sometimes I hear slight audio distortions when I'm in party chat with friends, but when unplugging the adapter and plugging it back in, it resolves itself. I have no idea if this is because of Xbox Live or not, but it's only a minor nuisance, although I shouldn't be having it.

This headset has improved my ability to hear specific sounds or actions within the videogame that may not be picked up with a less expensive headset or by just using your tv or surround sound speakers. The headphones provide for both left/right ear specific sounds so you can pinpoint where certain things are coming from. There is a limitation on the volume you can set it to, although this is probably a good thing to prevent any adverse affect to long-term hearing. It is important to note that I bought this while it was on sale for around $150.00 as it generally goes for around $200.00. It is a wired headset to your controller, so you don't have to worry about charging the headset or having it run out while having a long-playing session.

I bought these after trying on several headphones at best buy. They are extremely comfortable and I decided to pay the higher price than others for sale. Although comfortable and feeling very solid, I was unhappy with the sound. Max volume was not as loud as I would expect from the price, even with chat turned down. Installation was easy, but even after updating the controller, sound would occasionally sputter. I guess I might have expected more since I paid $100 more than the ones I went to originally buy. The biggest gripe was the fact that the wire is hardwired into the controller module. So if you dont wan't to use the headphones, you will still have a wire connected unless you take off the sound controller. My concern is you can't replace the wire down the road if it goes bad or shorts. So back it went and replaced it with Earforce XO Four Stealth. Although not as comfortable, the Earforce was louder, no sound drops and the cord plugs into the control module so I can unplug it when not in use.

Honestly, I have been a long time buyer of turtlebeach products. After buying these on a whim, I have no regrets. The build quality itself speaks volumes as they use metal parts not so much plastic. The sound quality is also many times better than even turtles in the same category.

I was originally going to by another brand recommended by friends. A BB associate, however, asked if I needed help and after a short, friendly discussion recommended this headset instead of the other brand even though they cost $50.00 more. Being a gamer himself, he recommended this set as the ear pieces would be more comfortable after a long period of gaming. After daily wear for over a month, I could not agree more. Being powered by the controller batteries instead of a separate power source is also a big plus. Sound is exceptionally clear and game/chat volumes are easily adjustable.

Love this headset. Sound quality is great. Many customization options for sound. Does not require batteries. Only drawback is connection issues when controller battery runs low. Had to shut off and restart my controller a couple times to get headset to function. $140 on Black Friday was a good deal (originally $200).

Astros are the best i used to use the beach exclusively then I had to try these out and the 40's are incredible. They give full sound all the way around, they catch a lot of detail and a prefect mix right out of the box of game and chat.

Xbox: Xbox One X
Had to power cycle the xbox to get them to connect so if they arent the first time try that.
The volume preset options dont really seem very different and I wish you could toggle chat volume vs. game volume at the headset. Doesn’t seem to be a way if there is it is not intuitive. I do this through the xbox and it’s fine.
The cord is unneccessarily short, I like wired headsets since the audio is usually crisper but this one’s cable is very short.
Overall:
Sound Quality - great
Features - good
Appearance - great
Comfort - great (seriously the most comfortable headset I’ve owned and I own 5 other gaming headsets)
Cable length - mediocre

The astro A40 headset is the best headset i have ever owned. It has three listening options for media, movies, and even for pro gaming. It also includes an extra cable so that you can use them on your phone and other devices.

My son loved these headphones. The sound is amazing. Unfortunately the wiring came out after 11 months. Thankfully I purchased the warranty. Besy Buy was amazing in replacing the product with no issue at all! I only give it 4 stars because of the wiring. We actually replaced with the same headphones.

I've owned nothing but Turtle Beachs for the past 10+ years. I was blown away immediately when I used these! The comfort, build quality, and sound exceed Turtle Beach in every conceivable way. I'm not disappointed in the money spent at all! After going through TWO pairs of Turtle Beach XO Seven pro headsets because of poor build quality, Astro has earned a new customer for life.

Astro has established itself as one of the top brands to buy in gaming headsets, but having been around a few years now, I find no significant advancements or improvements. The design itself hasn't changed in 3 generations, while the same tired design continues to be recycled to the next generation, in my opinion. So, I purchased these headsets already having owned the gen 2 a40 version thinking it would be a noticeable improvement. My gen 2 headsets were having mic and sound intermittent and static issues only having them for about 18 months. The good news is I purchased the new Gen 3 headsets at a decent bargain at $149 during a sale. I actually tried the Turtle Beach Elite Pro and found them to be better sounding and better quality, however the TB Elite Pro headsets missed a few things on design, too many wires and additional parts to buy. So I reverted to the Astro A40. TB is stepping up and I'm looking forward to the next iteration, Astro needs to do the same and still keep the price affordable. I bought these with conflicting opinion, as far as design, they are still the best headsets, keeping things simple with Mixamp for Xbox One included is good enough, but fails in new innovation. Between the TB Elite Pro and Astro A50, I felt the TB's provided better surround sound and comfort with noticeable premium feel. The Astros demonstrated no improvements from the Gen 2 sets while the premium feel is lacking when compared to the TB Elite Pro. The saving grace is at $149 price point, it's a bargain enough.

I love this headset and I've never had any issues with it. I had the previous gen A40 for years and now this new gen A40... I'll never buy a different brand of gaming headsets again besides ASTRO! The only MINOR criticism is the cord that attaches to the XBOX controller but you get used to it. Works great with my XBOX ELITE controller.

Wow is all I can say. For a while I was wearing Plantronics rigs 400. Which are good pair of headset. But once I heard reviews on the Astros a40s with the mix Amp I had to check out Astros. So i bought them and I was like Wow great sound, comfortable, and everything I expected. I would recommend the Astros A40s.

Definitely 2.5 to 3 star rating. Especially considering the price.
The headset gets the job done for those first person shooters and to hear the cracks of the sticks being stepped on behind you.
Padding on the ear is definitely the most comfortable I've dealt with for a gaming headset.
The cord that plugs into the controller is under one of the ear pieces, and when lying on ones side it jabs into your shoulder, annoying but tolerable.
The MixAmp M80, is nothing special. I like my games loud, especially when playing FPS's and the sound isn't loud enough.
It has 3 EQ modes, which without googling, you won't know what each one does because the instruction manual doesn't tell you anything about them.
Have used a better "mixamp" type of attachment, on another headset... turtle beach.
Guess it is up to what you like. I prefer the other brand if you know what I mean...but it is the lightest headset I own.
