They also value the convenience of the app, which allows for scheduling and provides a visual map of the cleaned area. However, some customers have concerns about the robot getting stuck, its battery life, loudness, small bin size, and price.

Don't buy if you have area rugs!

Don't buy this if you have lots of area rugs, particularly rugs with dar borders. We initially put the base underneath a bench, but when it backed out to start vacuuming, it hit the edge of an area rug. I don't know if it was the cliff sensor seeing the wide dark border of the area rug, or just the transition from hardwood to the rug, but the vac would get stuck under that bench for a good 10 minutes (see the attached photo). Eventually, it made it out. However, when watching it move across the room, it continued to have problems at the edges of the area rugs. Also, if you looked closely at the rug after vaccuming, the area rugs all look like they were brushed "the wrong way" (see the attached image).
At one point, the vac ran over a small stuffed cat toy, but it didn't notice and didn't report that as an error. It wasn't until I got tired of it getting stuck on the area rugs that I stopped it manually, went to empty the dust bin and noticed. I'm pretty sure the toy was blocking at least half of the suction port beneath the rollers.
If the vac actually did cover the whole floor, it probably would have been OK. I have a eufy 15c that does NOT have issues with the area rugs and doesn't leave the rugs with that "brushed the wrong way" look. But the 15C is one of the less sophisticated "bounce around until it thinks its done" models, and I was really looking forward to the additional smarts in the RoboVac 960.
But alas, returned after 1 week.

The roomba destroyed my carpet.

Roomba grabbed the corner of my carpet and became stuck on it. Never sent out an alert of an issue, instead it kept mowing down the carpet, leaving bold spots and destroying it.
-also it never cleans over my other carpet because it has black swirls on it. Garbage for the most part, it is only good if you have no area rugs, no furniture and no black color carpets in your house.
I will be returning as soon as covid 19 allows.

It gets stuck quite often. It seems to just push dog hair around. Worked well at first and continues to have more and more issues.
Seriously considering returning it at this point.
Interesting concept, doesn’t seem to get the job done in an acceptable way.

31 days after purchase rubber wore off and useless

Purchased 06-15-2020 - reviewed on 07-17-2020
31 days after my purchase the robot stopped cleaning and after further review the rubber on one of the rollers was gone for a one inch strip on one roller and then a part on the other roller. Now I need to spend another $50 to get new rollers every 31 days.
I have tile floors I run it on, how did this happen? What could I have on my floor that could be this harmful? Think I have nails or something sticking out of the middle of my tiles somewhere?
If this happens after 31 days I know this is going to be a pain point forward.

User Friendly Robot Vacuum

Set up with the phone app was easy. This was our first robot vacuum. This vacuum has issues that I'm sure are shared with other similar products. Has a tendency to get over certain obstacles and then not be able to get back. This has occurred with chair bases, coffee table base, area rugs, lower beds. If stuck, cannot return to base and dies. Waste receptacle is small so usually requires dumping at least once during a cycle for our 2 bedroom condo. We have to plan use and pick up smaller area rugs with fringe so I haven't really used the scheduling function yet. It also makes a fair amount of noise while operating (like any vacuum). Overall happy with the purchase though.

I wanted this over the next step down specifically for the ability to ensure it was mapping everywhere it went and covered every spot. The first few times he went off to clean I watched and was pleasantly surprised to see every spot covered. The battery only lasts about an hour. Needs emptied daily with 2 long haired dogs. Covers my 900 sq ft carpet/tile floor in about 3 hours. Noise is worse on tile, can't watch tv while he's going, but I have him go while working. Haven't had hair wrap around the spinning parts, but there are spots where the long fur gets stuck. Extremely easy to take apart and put back together. Love using the app. Would like to step up to the one that emptied the bin, but I don't think it would be worth the cost.

I bought this as a gift for wife after seeing how well my mother's first generation worked. I had decided on 960 because of my pets shedding so much. It has been amazing to watch this tool work and even more impressive to see they results. It drives over muti terrain without any problems. The Rumba has app which you can acivate on demand, schedule, as well as see areas covered. My wife loves it so much she named it "Rosie".

Great addition to the cleaning arsenal

This was an early Xmas present for the house and it’s been an excellent addition to the cleaning arsenal. It picks up pine needles from the xmas tree, kitty litter granules, and cleans my carpet pretty efficiently too. I didn’t give it 5 stars because I’ve got to empty the tank at least once while it’s running, and I only live in a 1000 square foot condo. But aside from that, it’s fantastic. It even keeps the kitties entertained!

My husband and I both work full time and we have a car and dog at home. We are a typical family with kids and after school activities, just no time to vacuum the house. The 960 works great, it clean the house so well , it makes the hardwood floor look spotless . We are so happy we don’t have to worry about the pet hair anymore.

My wife and I purchased our Roomba 960 on Black Friday. Since then we have loved having it. It has really helped with maintaining our house clean. We have two pets who shed a lot and it has made such a difference to have a vacuum that automatically cleans. The only two downsides to it is that it has a small bin. I have found though that since I run the roomba everyday I don’t have to empty the bin quite as much as I did the first day or two. Also, when I run it while I’m out, it seems to get itself stuck often. Other than that it has been a great purchase! I have been recommending it to friends and family!

We have a Corgi that sheds and this product works great on our floors. We do have to empty and clean the filter everyday. I like the freedom to program it to start each day and when I get home everything is clean. It will also send you a message when it has finished cleaning.

Great for hard surfaces

If you have mostly hard surfaces (tile, wood, laminate) the 960 is a great option to consider. It has all the features of the 980 except carpet boost and the newer motor. So far the 960 has met our families expectations. We have two dogs (border collie and a sheltie mix) who shed and a toddler. The 960 tackles all the hair and DUST on the hard surfaces. It does an alright job on the area rugs (I'd assume the 980 with carpet boost would be even better). If I could rate the app that goes with the robot independently it would score 2 or 3 stars. It's very basic and took 30-45 min to sync with the robot. So far the 960 is cleaning almost 1400 sq ft (multiple rooms) in about 65 min.
Overall, I'm very pleased and looking forward to clean floors every day when I get home from work.

We've had Roombas since 2014 and all have been pretty good. Only problem is this particular Roomba 960 will "eat" anything in its way. It does get stuck alot under kitchen cabinet but we have a cushion mat so it does like to go over everything. Great for dog hair! Wish it had a larger bin. As far as the battery goes, I don't believe it lasts for more than 60 min and once it dies it does not go back to the base to recharge. Not sure why manufacturer claims it does.

Love my Roomba!

I haven’t been this happy since I gave birth to my kids! I absolutely love my Roomba! Only issue I have is it gets stuck on an area rug I have in the kitchen. I just pick that one up now. Does not have an issue with any of the other area rugs. Our floors are hardwood and tile and it cleans them wonderfully! Have not tried it on the carpet yet and will update once I do. The only other issue I’ve had is when I placed the virtual wall backwards, seems to work better when you face it in the proper direction, so it went under my Christmas tree and dragged the tree skirt. That seems like more of a user issue than a Roomba issue. Overall I am totally in love with it and feel it’s worth every penny! I did get it on sale using my points but still the best thing I’ve bought in a long time!

Overall Disappointed

I heavily researched the Roomba 900 series vs the Neato Connected prior to making my purchase. At the end of the day, I sided with iRobot, a robotics company who's been in business for over two decades longer than Neato, with a technology background.
I must say, I'm extremely disappointed in the mobile application. It operates on dated, 2.4ghz WiFi bands only (5 ghz NOT supported), which has proven to be a much more serious issue for my household than I'd anticipated. The application is extremely limited in it's overall support of the 900 series devices, which is a huge disappointment as at the time of my purchase, the 900 series were the only robotic vacuums supported by the application. Aside from the WiFi and Mobile Application limitations, the robot itself performs admirably on my hardwood floors, frequently filling the dust bin with my golden retrievers pet dander. The bin size is small, but to be expected in my opinion. Battery life is average, at best, but I'm content with saving the $200 over the 980 and sacrificing the extra 20-30 minutes of battery life and carpet boost technology - literally the only major differences I'm aware of between the 960 and 980 series units.
The unit cleans well, which at the end of the day is what matters. The only reason I'm not rating the unit higher is because the price is simply not justified given the lacking mobile application features and support combined with the dated WiFi connection limitations.
Overall, I'd say if you have the chance to scoop up the 960 at a price point below $450, it's a solid buy. If not, look at Neato, or wait for the next model Roomba's which should be coming through the pipeline soon.

Let me start with the fact we really like this. We have small kids and dogs, one sheds REAL bad (not going to clarify kid or dog). In general this does a great job. Reason for the lost star is too often it gets stuck during cycle so we had to adjust the automatic cleaning time to closer to when we get home so we can get it unstuck to finish the cycle. Would I buy again, yes. Would I buy a less expensive model, I think so.
Cons:
1. Gets stuck a lot
Pros:
1. Auto clean cycles
2. Self docking
3. Multi room (big plus)
4. Great job of maneuvering around
5. Does a really good job cleaning up hair and debris
