Cleanest hardwoods since we moved in 17 years ago

We've been using the old standby for our hardwood floors - a handheld mop - so this is quite a change for us. Assembly was VERY straightforward, with basically an attachment of the pole to the mop head, and a snap-on plastic measuring cup. Directions were hardly needed when it's that simple. One thing that likely will never change when cleaning hardwoods is that the hardwoods should be swept before cleaning. As far as ease of use, this is about as simple as it gets. The mop applies steam to the floor, which has the advantage of removing anything that has adhered to the floor. A little steam, a little scrubbing, and the problem is solved. The power cord is nice and sturdy, which is good as well as not so good since it can get in the way during use. Additionally, the mop won't self-stand, which would be helpful when running into items on the floor that were missed when the floor was swept and need to be picked up. You can, however, lean it into a corner and it will stay in place just fine.

    Good, Flexible Steam Mop

The Shark - Genius Steam Pocket Mop is a flexible solution for small to medium-sized requirements. The pads are very easy to attach without bending over and are reusable. The steam-blast mode puts out a powerful spray (though it requires that you lift up the mop and flip the pad over). The mop is flexible and very easy to use for getting around and under various furniture and cabinets. The usable pad surface is effectively doubled by the feature where you flip it over and use the other side. For it's price range, this is a very solid offering. A few suggested improvements: The instructions call for changing the handle when using it in hand-spray mode, which is only for the purpose of changing from having the water refill container clipped on the handle - to having a clip for the hand-spray bottle (unnecessary inconvenience); the mop does not stand up by itself and there is no system for hanging it up when finished. The unit comes with a helpful long cord and one other nice touch was that the instructions were entirely in English without the confusion of sorting through a mixture of other languages. I assume they make it available in other languages in a similar easy-to-read format. Again, for the price-range, this is a very capable, flexible steam-mop system for small to medium requirements.

Just received my 2 in 1 Steam Pocket Mop/Spray Mop from Shark. Love that its basically 2 mops in one. However, I must say after using it for a couple days my favorite one is the Steam Pocket Mop. This thing is amazing. Assembly was a bit confusing at first but then I realized it was 2 separate type of mops. The mops are very easy to use and can get into hard to reach corners with amazing swivel action; you can also flip the pads over and use the other side. Thanks to Shark, this combo set comes with 2 reusable cloth pads that once get all grimey you can use the release switch and toss them in the wash with the rest of your laundry. No touching those nasty pads. Plus it saves money on not having to buy new pads every time they become dirty. I would totally recommend this for everyday use to keep all types of floors nice a clean from regular day to day mopping as well as quick and easy cleaning of spills. It pretty much takes the chore out of mopping.

Just to put this on the table from the get-go, I'm a neat freak. Very few things give me more pleasure than perfect vacuum lines in a carpet, and spotless tile floors. I am always on the lookout for way to make my job easier or to get things cleaner. I had very high hopes for the Shark Genius and while it is a top notch steam mop, it will not be replacing my Bissell PowerFresh steam mop. Both mops pump steam through a reusable cloth cover and hopefully picks up all the junk the vacuum and swiffer didn't (yes I use all three on my tile floors, a nun could eat off of them). After doing some A-B testing which is actually pretty easy when you have tile floors. I did one half of my kitchen with the Shark, the other half with the Bissell. The results were that while both cleaned, the Bissell left less dirt behind and the Shark did not make things really any easier for me. I'll do a breakdown of the pros and cons below: Pros: - Easy to use. Light and swivels easily around the floors. - Don't have to touch the cleaning cloth. I really didn't care about this but it would be important to many people. - Wide/double sided mop head keeps you from having to replace it during a mopping session, it can take care of a whole floor of tile. - Comes with an included spray mop handle that lets you turn the mop into more of an old school mop, just with a replaceable cover. I didn't use this mop because I kind of got a steam mop for a reason, and that was to not just use a regular mop again! - I did like the directed steam blast to get off hard to clean dirt (which I don't really have since I clean things up as they go but I also don't have kids). Cons: - While mop head is large, you actually do not get the full area of effect when cleaning. The dirt was obvious in a semicircle around the pivot point where I was able to keep the mop head in constant contact with the floor. This also may be an issue of the mop sides not being wet enough (more on this in a minute). - Only one level of steam. The instructions say that this mop has 'intelligent' steam levels, but only if 'intelligent' means not enough in some other language. My Bissell has three setting to let me choose how much steam I want. To be fair, there is a higher level of Shark Genius mop that supposedly lets you select your steam level as well, but this one is not it. - Not enough steam actually seems to be hitting the floor. The steam nozzle seems to just fill the mop head with steam not all of it is directed down at the floor. Now this kind of has to be the case to allow both sides of the mop to be used but I need to use both sides because the first side didn't quite do the job. My Bissell has all the jets pointing at the floor and while I often have to change the mop covers, that is because the steam is so intense that it gets a ton of dirt up off the floor in the first go through. If I were to receive this as a gift and did not have my Bissell, I would be pretty happy with it but having a great steam mop already and with the Shark not really beating it on any measure, I think I would always prefer my Bissell. The Shark is good, the Bissell is great (oh, and a lot cheaper as well).

I have to start by saying I have not actually used this Shark steam mop - my wife hasn't let me yet! She loves how easy it is to use, and how clean it gets our floors. She has used it on both hardwood and tile floors, and is very happy with it! She says she can tell the floors really FEEL cleaner after using the steam mop. I like how easy it is to install and remove the pads, and the washability of the pads is a great feature. I feel that this mop is a good investment, because it doesn't use disposable pads - there is nothing else to buy with this mop. Just fill with water, and go! We highly recommend the Shark steam mop!

    Sturdy, Versatile, A Real Winner

I decided to give the Shark Genius Steam Pocket mop a try for a few reasons, and I'm sure glad I did. My house consists mostly of sealed laminate wood flooring, along with some tile flooring in the kitchen and linoleum in the bathrooms. Typically, it's not wise to use a steam mop on laminate flooring, which makes the Steam Pocket a great mop candidate. It is extremely versatile; not only does it have two levels of steam ("blast" mode, which shouldn't be used on laminate, and auto mode, which Shark claims can be safely used on sealed laminate flooring), it has an additional handle which converts the unit into a regular mop, with use of the included floor cleaner. This additional handle is where my only complaint with the unit comes in; the included floor cleaner is packaged in a spray bottle which you have to manually spray, not integrated into the unit and dispensed via a trigger mechanism like most mops of this type. Fortunately, there's an included holding bracket for the spray bottle that puts it in easy reach while using the mop. Additionally, the ability to flip the mop in different directions and use both sides provides a great deal of flexibility and versatility with which to clean your floors. One of the first things that stood out to me was how sturdy the unit is (in both configurations). This is an area that has traditionally been an issue with these types of floor cleaners; generally the handle is so flimsy that it makes effectively cleaning the floor very difficult. Not an issue with this mop. The handle exhibits minimal signs of flex, allowing you to easily clean corners/edges (made especially easy because of the swivel mechanism of the mop head). This mop most likely doesn't have the steam cleaning power of some more expensive units, but the blast mode works well when a bit more power is needed. Shark has also cleverly designed the trigger mechanism for using the blast mode; you flip the mop over so that the pad is to the back and tilt the handle back a bit. This initiates the steam and is incredibly natural to use, much better than a button you need to hold down. Also, steam flows from the unit shortly after being plugged in (somewhere in the 30 second ball park). No waiting for the water to heat up. Overall, this is a great cleaner. Its versatility and overall sturdiness make it a great option for anyone looking for a floor cleaner.

Solid Mop, Convenience, Just One Problem

I had purchased and loved a previous model of this mop and was absolutely excited to test out the newer model in the Shark Genius Steam Pocket Mop! Having two dogs, both of which got into quite a lot of mischief in the recent snow storms we have had, and being an avid cook in the kitchen, this mop saw quite the test right out of the box! Solidly built (I feel more sturdy than the previous model I had), actual motion and holding it just felt good. When I used it for the first time, one of the things that immediately made an impact was the extended power cord. It gave me a lot more freedom to move around without getting tangled up and/or having to switch to a different outlet! So now I will bring up the other feature that really really was awesome - the improved mop head. With the ability to flip over and to release the cleaning pads, it was such a big convenience and delight and gave me more time cleaning rather than worry about the mop itself! One other convenience was the spray pocket. I'm an admitted scatterbrain and whereas before I would carry around solution and place it down on random tables or counters, now I have a convenient one spot that goes with me. Seriously, I don't think I can get across how such a simple thing can mean so much! There were two sides to the steam blaster on the mop. On the one hand, the water container is larger compared to the older model I had, which was really nice because it allowed longer use without having to worry about running out of water. The other side of this, and maybe with more use I'll find a better angle, but the steam blast - although very powerful and from what I saw seemed to hit the floor with the power it needed to clean, it seemed like it wasn't hitting it as directly and loosening more of the tougher areas that were on the floor. Again, I'm going to tweak the angles at which I was blasting the steam, but this still seemed to be a recurring theme. It definitely was effective, but I'm giving an overall impression on the deeper cleaning areas. Other than that though I definitely would recommend this to anyone looking for a sturdy, convenience filled mop. The improved mop head is really awesome, the longer cord, and the other things I listed definitely make this a high value product!

Used an older model for several years, and didn't replace it until getting this newer model. Noticeable improvements with the newer design, mostly with the mop head and steam production. The mop head is 'flippable' to allow cleaning more area before having to change a soiled mop head. Combine this with a noticeable increase in steam production and it is more effective at cleaning and less 'down time' to change a soiled mop head. A disadvantage would be that steam comes out both top and bottom of the mop head, losing some of the 'oomph' from the steam production, but not sure how that could really be improved while still having an easily flippable mop head. This little issue is actually not so much a big deal, as the 'steam boost' helps with extra dirty spots or sticky spills. Longer cord than earlier models is another good improvement, although the cord is pretty stiff and does not bend easily. This could be a plus as the cord is more rugged, so I will take this as a trade-off and a safer design. One drawback is that the steam mop does not stand up on it's own when stopping in the middle of cleaning to pick something up or answer the phone. Another trade-off, as adding more framework and 'kickstand' ability would add to the weight. Can't have everything, so I will accept the device for it's portability and light-weight design and put a hanging hook in the laundry room for storage when not in use. Easy to refill the water bottle. Main thing I have to keep in mind is to slow down a little in dirty areas to give the steam a chance to do it's job. Getting in a hurry can leave some soil and dirt behind, so it's a different pace and feel from a 'scrubber head' kitchen mop... don't get frustrated, just slow down and let the steam work on the soilage. Once you get the hang of that, the mop will have a chance to do it's job properly. Overall a handy device that generates a lot of steam, cleans a larger area due to reversible mop head, easy to disconnect the mop head and drop it in the washing machine. Good improvements from earlier models and glad I went ahead and tried the upgrade.

Big Improvements to Prior Shark Mops

This was just a few seconds assembling out of the box. The included Spray Pocket setup gives you the option to use the mop head as a "super swiffer" where you squeeze the trigger on an attached bottle of cleaner and go over the floor with it. The regular Shark steam mop has an easy-open filler spout, the usual visible water tank, and a quick release feature for the fabric mop head. This model has a standby button for the steam feature, where you are able to keep it ready while plugged in but not have steam come out. With no on/off switch for the overall power this is how you keep it from pushing out steam when you aren't ready. The mop doesn't have to be "bumped" to release steam, it comes out steadily. The release feature for the pad is great, you barely have to touch it to get it on and off the mop head. I think as a whole the floor is cleaner, but some of that is due to the pad--it has a waffle-weave of coarser material in it that I think "scrubs" the floor better than the older types of pads. This model did do a better job than my older model, and the swivel mop head was easy to maneuver on a linoleum floor.

I was skeptical about this product but after using it I am happy to say it works great. We had our tile floors professionally cleaned a couple of weeks ago so I didnt expect this mop to "find" much dirt. I was wrong - it did a great job. It is very easy to use and I did about 1000 sq feet of tile and the water tank was still 1/4 full. It heats up quickly and didnt leave any streaks, etc. and drys very quickly. However I am in Scottsdale, Az and we have very little humidity.. I am struggling as to why there are 2 handles - one with steam and one without. I suppose the one without would be a tad easier to navigate and comes with a spray bottle of cleaning solution. The mop head easily connects/disconnects between the 2. The only negative I have is it is a little difficult to aim the extreme steam function but with a little practice it was OK. But there isnt a button to activate this function, you flip the mop head and that activates it. I would have preferred a better way to control this... But I would definitely recommend this...

I've hadn't a couple of these but this is my favorite so far. First off, the unit is packaged well, seems to be built nicely, and is very easy to set up. It has a nice long cord so you don't waste time having to plug and unplug much. Performance wise it does really good on my older wood floors. I was skeptical of the self steaming feature but it works great. It makes quick work of my floors. It has a nice sized tank for the water and I can do my entire house without having to refill. That being said, my house is on the small side. If there is a con with the unit, it is the same as the other steam mops I have used. They'd can be hard to maneuver when steaming. I am a big guy (6'2" and about 220) and it can be tough to move around for me so I can see that it could be aggravating for smaller folks. Overall this is a great unit that does what it should Andre does it very well. I definitely recommend.

The Shark Genius Steam Pocket Mop is just what the doctor ordered. It is convenient and always available when you need it. Available for those quick jobs that don’t require much, but still need to be done before things get worst. In my home, I have three types of flooring: tile, hardwood and carpet. My carpet hides the dirt so a simple vacuuming helps get anything else that’s visible. My wooden floors builds up with dust and need a gentle cleaning to keep the shine but not ruin the wood while my tile needs more care more frequently. Often times I find myself grabbing a paper towel to wipe the tile floor when I have a small spot or see an area where someone has made a gentle mess and didn’t bother to clean it up. But now thanks to the Genius Steam Mop, I’m able to quickly clean my floors without all the fuss. I can quickly grab it, clean up the spill or light dirt spot and move on. But it gets even better because the steam allows for tough stains and some serious cleaning whenever needed. The fact that it’s cleaning 99% of the germs makes it my first choice.

Major gripe is that the heel of the pad feels heavy and it gets hard to push around. Even when trying not to bear down on it. You can see it in the pad as the heel will be dirty while the nose of the pad is fairly clean. It does seem to clean well and the cord is plenty long enough to cover your room.

Used the steam mop for the first time last night. I have TILE FLOORS and carpet in my house. No hardwoods. Below are my pros/cons. Pros: - Very east to set up. Literally took a few minutes. - Pretty lightweight. Easy to move around the house. - No touch pad release is fantastic. This is an excellent design and was very easy to use. - Did a decent job cleaning the floor. I do not think this mop is best for cleaning Tile floors. It's definitely more suited for hardwoods. But I still felt like the floors were cleaner than when I started. I also used the additional mop attachment with the spray bottle. Didn't really clean the floors any better but it did leave a refreshing smell. Cons: - Does not stand up on it’s own. This is similar to other Shark products but it really gets on my nerve. Having to lean products up against walls and counters is really annoying. - When the mop is flipped to have steam shoot out it seemed to be inconsistent spray.

I love this steam mop right out of the box. It's easy to assemble, straightforward and easy to use. It is the ultimate quick solution to the cumbersome old-school mop that requires changing dirty water, buying mop heads and anything else you can think of with those old mops that just never seem to clean the way you want. Not to mention that lingering smell if you don't clean or dispose of the mop head properly. This steam mop is perfect in almost every way. I love the way it cleans the floor and doesn't leave the floor damp while using it. The boost of steam is perfect for the hard stains and gets them right up. If you are ina hurry or just need a quick spill clean up, the spray mop attachment is perfect and is just as easy to use. Great purchase and definitely recommend if you are willing to pay a hefty price for a mop.

It is my first steam mop, and the Shark Genius Steam Pocket mop does a good job cleaning my hardwood and tile floors. It cleans just using water, so there are no harsh chemical smells when you clean your floors. The water tank is very easy to fill and holds just enough water to do the job without requiring a refill. There is no way to adjust the amount of steam you use, but it does a good job of cleaning anyway. It also cleans pretty thoroughly without too much scrubbing and effort. It also swivels and pivots nicely to get into small areas. It has an extra long cord which makes it easy to reach all of the area that I am cleaning. The cleaning pad is washable, and attaches and releases with ease. In summary...the Shark Genius Steam Pocket Mop is lightweight and easy to use, and, with its effective cleaning, makes it a great steam mop! Highly recommended!!!

You don't have a clean floor until you use this mop. Period.Throw everything you know about cleaning and using a standard mop away... This powerful unit really does wonders on the tile floor in our apartment. Very easy to assemble too. That steam is pretty powerful and got out spots we thought were permanently on the floor. And we were using that mop that spins....... The unit looks like it has a learning curve at first when you use it, but it's straight forward after that. Don't let the manual or the assembly instructions intimidate you, connect A to A, ETC. One thing I do like, it dramatically cut my mopping time down in half, and I can take the mop head off and put it in the wash cycle. Shark has done it again.
