Like many people, we're trying to eat better things these days. I'm not very good as a sous chef at it takes me a long time to chop up veggies to prepare for meals. The Phillips Multi Chopper cuts prep time by 90%. Setup is super-quick and you can start chopping in minutes. I find this to be great for onions as it avoids a lot of the hassle when you chop them. Operation the machine is easy. You just push the food down and it starts. Cleanup was also very easy and it looks great on your counter or can store in a small space in a cabinet. Great machine!

I really like this chopper. It's fast and easy to set up and does a great job. I've used similar choppers in the past and really like this style. It has a huge number of uses. First off, the size is really nice. A lot of this style chopper is just too small to be of much use. This one has a good size collection cup. It has two ways of chopping, a blade accessory, and a separate blade and basket accessory. The simple blade spins at the bottom of cup and allows you to pretty much fill the cup and blast through whatever you fill the cup with. The second method utilizes a special basket insert with a different blade attachment. The blades sit inside the basket and chop whatever is inside. When the pieces are small enough to fit through the holes in the basket, they drop down into the collection cup. Very uniform sized pieces, and it all takes only seconds. I was able to cut a large onion into six pieces and fit three at a time in the basket. Again, it only takes seconds to chop up whatever is in the basket. The motor is housed in the top section and when everything is assembled, all you have to do is press down on the motor assembly to activate it. This makes it nice for pulsing your chops. You can hold it down if you just want the motor to run continuously. Everything disassembles quickly without having to unscrew any of the parts, they just lift apart. Rinse everything off and put it in the dishwasher on the top rack and you're done. This chopper did a really nice job on anything I threw in it. Really well made and a good solid feel. Nicely done Phillips!

    Nice Addition to Kitchen

The Philips Viva Multi Chopper was very easy to assemble and operate. There are no switches or settings to fool with. You simply select which chopping option is appropriate (using the Chop Drop basket for most veggies and fruits) or the basin which is more like a traditional food processor to be used with vegetables, fruits, nuts, meats, and cheeses. Using the chop drop feature, you put what needs chopping into the basket and place the motor unit on top. Applying a light pressure to the motor will activate it. As the pieces are chopped, they fall through the Chop Drop basket once they are small enough to fit through the holes. This produces a very uniform fine dice. The one thing I wish is that there was a way to have a larger dice. The main chopping basin is just like a traditional food processor and works as expected dicing and mixing whatever you place into it. Cleanup was very easy as there are only a few pieces (the basin, the basket, and the blade). I just rinsed off under water and some soap and it was just like new. In conclusion, I would recommend this if you hate dealing with chopping lots of veggies. It produces a very fine chop so would be good for many kitchen uses. I threw baby carrots, whole radishes, and large chunks of onions and had a very consistent product each time without anything turning to mush.

    A Decent Chopper

This is a fairly niche appliance, but it's very good at what it does. It's relatively small, but is a good size when you don't need a full sized food processor. Cleanup is very easy, just rinse and drop the parts into the dishwasher. In the box: Motor housing Bowl "ChopDrop" chamber Coarse chopping blade Fine chopping blade At first I wondered, is this device really necessary, will I really use it that much. Still not sure of the answer to those questions, but I've used it a few times now, and it works great. We've made fantastic home-made salsa with it, it dices the onions, jalapenos, tomatoes, etc, very nicely. It doesn't do that well with the cilantro. But the best part is, you can't turn your salsa (or whatever you're chopping) into mush. There's no way to over chop when using the "ChopDrop" chamber. The fine chopping blade works just like a traditional food processor, just with a smaller foot print, so it's great when you don't want or need the full size. Overall, if you find yourself doing a lot of dicing, then this will work great for you. If you don't, then maybe not, unless you really like good home-made salsa. Or if you just want a smaller food processor that has the additional ability to dice those dreaded tear jerking onions without making onion pulp.

    Quick and Consistent Countertop Chopping

We tried to put our countertop on a diet. Then we started using this Philips Multi-chopper, and found it was in such continuous use, we assigned it a precious counter spot. It’s really a nifty design. The clear receiving cup can be configured to accept just the chopper blade. Place the black cap that aligns the blade, and go. Place the motor assembly on top of the cup and press down. The chopper yields VERY small bits, just larger than a mince. If instead you want a slightly larger sized product, swap out the chopper, and swap in the multi-chopper. Place the multi-chopper blade first into the basket, and place both into the clear cup. We use it to prep carrots, onions, peppers and some other veggies for our salads. The multi-chopper with the basket yields a consistently sized, 1/4” or so small sized pieces. You know that pained look you get when you ask someone to “prep the veggies, and the smaller the better”? It’s a thing of the past. And the time it takes is seconds, not 10-15 minutes. Even adding the cleanup, the Multi Chopper is much faster than most of us. Because the motor assembly has no contact with food, it needs no more than a wipe down. The Philips Multi Chopper is a nice addition to our kitchen gadgets.

Diverse chopper with easy cleanup and use

This chopper has some interesting functions - While it chops and dices vegetables as expected, we've also used its specialty blade to chop up block cheese for recipes. This chopper does a great job, is marginally noisy (a product of its size and materials used to manufacture it), and requires that any vegetables or objects going in for chopping/dicing/mincing be cubed up into 2"x2" pieces before prep. To some, that means pre-chopping then the machine's just doing the fine work - Seems duplicative, but that's what larger food processors are for. This is for getting vegetables and other ingredients fined down to appropriate size for mixing, soups, etc. It does this job well. I was delighted that it worked for cheeses as we recently broke our trusty cheese grater and a recipe called for shredded block sharp cheddar. We weren't ready. The Viva saved the day. Overall this is a great processor with lots of uses for its size and very simple cleanup. Definitely a good addition to the kitchen arsenal in the mid-range.

I like to make salsas - and in doing so need to chop up lots of onions, tomatoes and peppers. i have a hand-power chopper from the MN State fair that does a pretty good job - but things can get soupy if you are not paying attention. The design of this chopper is supposed to prevent that - as the chopped pieces fall into the container once sufficiently chopped. Great concept - and it does a pretty good job, but not perfect. The product advertising pic is a bit misleading. It should show onion all over the sides of the container, etc - as that actually what happens. They cleaned that container up for looks. As for chopping - it makes quick work of everything I've thrown at it and would recommend it to friends and family if they don't already have some sort of chopper or theirs broke. Super easy cleanup via a rinse, easy and compact to store and fun to use (push to chop), then watch it drop. Kinda fun!

Extremely convenient for chopping onions, peppers and tomatoes for salsa. Haven't tried carrots or celery but it seems to be powerful enough to handle them. Easy to use, easy to clean, much more convenient than a food processor.

I couldn't be happier with this chopper and it outdoes my Ninja in terms of chopping up things like onions, carrots, potatoes, fruit or other veggies/fruits so they're chopped just right and even while not too much. This to me is probably the best part of this chopper. How this one is different is that it has a basket to drop pieces in to the cup once they are chopped the right size, which is awesome as it chops just right every time. Then switch out the blades easy to get a fine chop like any other chopper can do. Has plenty of power to quickly chop up whatever you throw at it too! The cup features a measure on the side so it's easy to measure to exactly what you need. I'd say this is an essential kitchen accessory and especially for anyone (like me) that finds chopping up ingredients time consuming and inconvenient. Pros: Sharp blades Easy to use Versatile Lots of power Looks great Measure marks on the cup Size is just right Cons: None that i can find so far!

My wife tends to make hundreds of Philippine Lumpia (egg rolls) at a time. The prep work for this involves slicing LOTS of veggies. After a marathon cooking day or two, she would complain of pain in her hands and wrists from all the slicing and dicing. In comes the Philips Viva Collection chopper. My wife unpacked it and got it ready for a test drive. At first, she couldn't get the top to screw onto the cup but then realized that it just sits on it and you push it down to engage the motor. She complained here was no on/off switch prior to that, but once she got the operation down, she was off to the races. So now, onions, carrots, potatoes and all the other sliced ingredients of Lumpia are no longer my wife's pain. The chopper does an excellent job of both large and small, with two different sized blades for different types of materials needing chopped. This is now one of the most utilized appliances in our kitchen! Thanks Philips!

That's what this gizmo apparently was mainly designed to do, since that's what they brag about on the box. And yes, it does do that probably better than any other electric food chopper because it produces real honest to goodness diced onions, not some sort of onion paste, which is typically what you get from other food processors. Now, this does not come without some effort, arguably a lot more than it would take to simply pull out a knife and cutting board and do it by hand. But some people seem to really hate this chore, judging from the number of devices that claim to make it faster and easier. Hence we have the Philips Multichopper, an odd little device that is really kind of an upside down food processor. The motor on top, the blades underneath. This is what allows you to get real diced onions instead of onion paste, since the onion bits fall away from the blades into the bottom of the multichopper as soon as they are cut to the proper size. Be aware you still have to peel and cut up the onions into pretty small pieces to get them in multichopper basket. So the labor savings are minimal. But the whole "chopdrop" system, as they call it, works for the most part, producing small uniform diced onions, or any other vegetable bits you may desire. The multichopper also cuts up hard cheeses, nuts and even meat, using a second included blade designed for that purpose. As a long time cook, I have admit I don't quite see the point since it is less work to do all this with a knife and cutting board. There are fewer dishes to wash too since there are many pieces to be washed when you use this thing. . But for those just can't abide those chopping chores for some reason, this will do the trick.

Like most modern niche appliances that are cool and good at what they do but are ultimately rendered duplicative, the Philips chopper is hard to justify using. Don't get me wrong, this chopper is good. Almost fun to use. And clean up is a breeze (keeping the food separated from the motor base was great design choice). But when I need it, I ask myself, do I want to go through the effort of getting it out of the cabinet, plugging it in, cleaning it up and putting it back? Or just continue using the knife in my hand? After using the first couple of times, I don't pull it out of the cabinet anymore as it's too much work. It has a smart design that makes it easy to use. For instance, there's no buttons. You push on the top of the device and it works (the motor is on top). The basket is a nice feature because it seems to create uniform pieces. The blades chop up the onions and then when they get to be just the right size (i.e. small enough to fit through the whole in the basket) they fall into the bottom of the device. As I mentioned, it's easy to clean and take a part. What's not easy to use/read, are the instructions. Phillips continues to lead the market (with all of its consumer electronics) in creating difficult to understand instruction manuals. The pictograms are difficult to interpret and the manual is difficult to navigate. For example, it says one blade is best for dicing onions...well which one?? I used the blade that doesn't require the pretty purple basket but couldn't get anything to chop, the large pieces of onion kept getting stuck to the side. Luckily, this device is pretty simple to use, so the terrible instructions manual get a pass. Even if you don't open the instructions manual, most people can spend 3 minutes figuring out how to use it (NOTE there's no power button!) as there are only 5 pieces including 2 blades. If you know you want a chopper, then this is a great one to buy. If you are thinking you'll make your life easier, ask yourself whether or not you'll want this on your counter top and if the answer's no, then do you want to get it out every time you need it. At the end of the day, I find it more trouble than it's worth.

    500. yes 500 watts of chopping power. Chunk up what you want to chop into 2 inch or smaller pieces and the chopper will make short order of providing uniform size pieces for you. Easily chops vegetables, nuts, cheese, chocolate etc and grinds small quantities of meats. It has the drop and chop system as well as a regular chopping grinding blade. When the pieces reach the optimum size they drop thru the holes in the inner basket into the collection area for your use. All but the motorized part is dishwasher safe for easy cleanup. This will be a big timesaver for us with the upcoming preparation of many holiday dishes giving us less time in the kitchen and more time to enjoy the family :)

Simply put: Super Easy Vegetable Chopping Fast – Will Dice up an Onion in Seconds with No Tears Quick Easy Cleanup That is, it in a Nutshell, it is exactly what I have always wanted to see in a vegetable chopper (one of my pet peeves when I cook is all the time spent slicing and dicing). Have used numerous choppers in the past, none that I tried are still in my kitchen. This one has a spot on the counter. If you want to chop and dice quickly with easy cleaning I suggest you give it twirl.

I used this to chop up some onions and broccoli for some broccoli cheddar soup, and never realized what I was missing until now. Oh my gosh. It is pretty straightforward to use - you just assemble it, plug it in, and push on the top of the chopper, and voila, in seconds your food is chopped. The ONLY complaint I have about it is you have to cut up the onions a bit before you use the chopper (instructions said smaller than 2”x2”), which is an extra step in what would be an otherwise perfect lazy girl kitchen gadget!

Finally I got one of these electric choppers, I was tired of crying when I would chop up onions and cilantro! This chops everything up in seconds and is very handy in the kitchen. Makes cooking more fun since it chops everything really quick. My only complains is that it doesn’t come with accessories for the price. Pros: Chops quick No more tears Holds a lot of product Easy to clean Cons: No extra accessories Heavy Takes up a lot of counter top space

I use this electric chopper to dice tomatoes and onions, it is very good at chopping up vegetables and other ingredients into small chunks. This is due to the design which includes two different type blades, one that includes a basket, allowing pieces to fall through the basket into the bottom portion of the chopper. This is useful especially for items (such as tomatoes, onions and cheeses) that you don't want to turn into a paste like substance that a standard food processor would create. I can think of a few other ingredients this chopper would do a good job on, including creating finely chopped ice. The second blade provided acts as a chopper similar to a food processor. The unit is built well and cleans up easily with really only three parts to clean (four if you use the basket). Overall this is a nice chopper if you do a lot of food preparation, it is kind of a niche item.

This Philips - Viva Collection Multi Chopper is basically like all powered choppers except for 1 innovative function. The chop drop feature. If you have used a chopper without this function before I'm sure like me you have pulverized some carrots or onions before by leaving the chopper on to long and ending up with a pile of carrot mush. Well this chopper has a great function where once the pieces of veggie get to a certain size they fall through the drop cup and can no longer be chopped by the blade. No more carrot or onion mush!!!! the operation of this Philips - Viva Collection Multi Chopper is very easy also. just put your veggies in the drop cup, put the motor top on and push down. perfectly chopped veggies in a matter of seconds. The description of the features makes it sound like there is multiple speed settings but the chopper is automatic and speeds only change with the blade you use. If you are using the chopper blade without the chop drop it will chop with more power to get a finer chopped product for things like making salsa or guacamole. I love it.

This is a really convenient little product to have for dicing up my own ingredients while cooking. It's pretty easy to set up, and doesn't require much counter space when assembled. So far, I've tested onions and tomatoes with it, and both worked really well - far faster than doing it by hand (at least for me) and it consistently produces nice small pieces. If I could improve anything about it, it would be to make it somehow slightly easier to clean up. But that is hardly something I can fault it for. It's a great little product to have that can be a big time-saver.
