It is a great cordless vac. Not quite a good as some corded vacs. A second battery may be needed to do the whole house at once.

I got this vacuum cleaner on sale as an alternative to a cordless dyson. This vacuum does the same job and does it just as well without breaking your bank. Not as small as dyson but still sleek and compact.

I couldn’t decide between this and the dyson. But after watching some YouTube reviews, they both performed the same. But the shark was half the price

A great upright with multiple uses

The Shark Ion P50 is a very powerful cordless upright that is able to tackle any task you can throw at it. As a matter a fact i really couldn't find any task that it could not handle. At a little steeper of a price point many people may find this hard to dive in to but when you consider all that Shark has to offer and the quality behind this build i think that you will find that this is a sound and safe investment to make. So lets dive in and see what you expect to receive in the way of performance from this wonderful machine.
Out of the box you get everything necessary to complete your task including an assortment of attachments for your wand. Charge time for the cordless battery takes roughly 2.5 to 3 hours to complete a full charge. Now on a full charge you can expect to get about 30 to 45 mins of run time just depending on how you are using the vacuum cleaner and what mode you have it in. Charging can be done either directly from the power cord or by using the supplied charging dock. Using the power boost button will deplete the battery alot faster. Speaking of which you have a few buttons and features to choose from which all sit at the top of the handle making access as easy as moving a finger over. So on one side you have a toggle button for boost mode. This does exactly what it sounds like and increases suction power. While this is a cool feature to have i never found myself using this mode just due to the fact the upright was powerful enough already to pull up all debris and pet hair embedded in to my carpet. On the other side you have a couple of buttons to switch modes allowing you to clean either on hardwood floors or carpet. The only difference i seemed to notice from these two modes was the roller speed. It seemed the mode for hardwood floors seemed to rotate the brushes at a slightly slower speed. Speaking of the roller brushes Shark did something i haven't seen on any vacuum cleaner that i personally own and that is they have implemented two distinct roller brushes on this unit. The forward brush seems to be a solid soft style brush while the rearward brush is a standard style roller. Im not exactly sure what the main function of this design is ( possibly to aid in deep cleaning) but what i can tell you is i noticed a distinct difference on my hardwood surfaces. I noticed while vacuuming my hardwood floors it seemed to almost polish my wood surface. I'm not saying it gave it a true polish where i could see my own reflection in the wood but what im trying to get at is that it cleaned it beyond just picking up debris. It was as if it was dusting the floor while picking up debris. The vacuum also comes equipped with an allergen seal and a hepa filter making this an ideal cleaner for pet owners and people with really sensitive allergies. The waste cup is a pretty decent sizing holding more than enough to clean a whole house. My house is 2500 sq. ft. and i had no issues with the waste cup filling up before i was done. Another great feature this waste bin has is a hands free release. What i mean by this is they seem to have implemented a design that one of my other vacuum cleaners has which is adding a triangle type cylinder in the waste bin to help remove all the debris. What this appears to serve as is a hands free dump method meaning simply hold it over the trash can press the release button and everything falls out without you have to stick your hand in there and manually pull out dog hair or human hair for that matter.
Lets get to some of the functions of the P50 lift away mode. This feature allows you to detach the main unit from the vacuum allowing you to hold it on one hand and also detach the wand allowing you to attach your desire head to fit the task at hand. I think for me personally this is where it really shines. The fact that i don't have any cords in the way is a plus and means i can take this unit anywhere at any time to complete any task. So i put this unit to the test to see what it could handle. First up was cleaning the stairs. It made getting up my stairs to clean them alot easier and had plenty of suction power to pull my pet hair right up from the carpet. Next on my list was my wifes drapes. I wanted to see if it could clean the drapes without the suction power being to powerful to rip them right off. I have to admit i was a little nervous to try this test cause i knew two things, one this vacuum was putting out some good suction and two if i ripped those drapes my wife was gonna kill me. To my relief with the right attachment it cleaned them perfectly without pulling on them to the point to where i felt they would tear and break off. Next it was on to the cars. With the fact that i have no cords to worry about this meant that i could take this vacuum out to my drive way and hook up what attachment i needed and easily clean the carpet, cup holders and even my dashboards with ease. I think this is where i truly saw the suction power shine. I have messy kids and the crevices between the seat are always filled with food or other types of garbage that are hard to get out. The wand removed everything and i mean EVERYTHING!!. My car was starting to look like a car again and i could hardly tell i even had kids.
Here's the thing guys i can go on and on about all the things you can do with this unit but that would be a waste of time. The main thing i want to get across is that the suction power and design of this unit allows for you to clean any mess no matter how deeply it is embedded into the fibers of your carpet and also allows for awesome hardwood service cleaning. It does a great job of getting into hard to reach spots including the crevices of your sofas or seats. If for some reason you can't pull something up you have to the added feature of a boost mode. The run time may not seem long to you but that all depends on what mode you use this unit in. One thing i would like to add that may help in your buying decision is this. While the price may seem steep i can honestly say that Shark builds some of the best units i have ever seen. I personally own 3 other Shark devices which include 2 robot vacuums and a corded upright. I have owned them for 3 years and have not had a single issue or regret. The quality that Shark puts in its design means that you can rest assured that your money is an investment that will be well spent. Please do yourself a favor and pick this unit up, i don't think you will be disappointed.

We bought this over the Dyson. We were orginally happy with this product the salesperson did a great job explaining its features but it did not take long to break down and we decided to go with the Dyson.

Powerful cordless Vacuum

I was really looking forward to getting this vacuum to see how it would perform compared to a traditional vacuum. I made sure to fully charge it up before putting it to the test. It came partially charged from the factory, and only took about 1 1/2 hours to fully charge.
I was a little surprised at how quiet it was, which made me wonder how it would perform. Well let me just say it seems to be just as powerful as a plug in vacuum. I went over my heavy traffic areas where my kids and dogs go in and out of the house, and the cordless Shark picked up fantastically. Afterwards I vacuumed the entire house. My house is 2000 sq ft and the battery was right below 1/2 charge. Next it was time to use the included attachments, these are a crevice tool, an upholstery tool and a dusting brush. Still on the same original charge, I was able to go around the house and hit all the nooks and crannies. Again the Shark was up to the task.
All in all, this Shark is a terrific vacuum that can almost be a replacement for a corded vacuum. The only thing that prevents this is the size of the dust bin, which is small and fills up fast. I had to stop and empty it at least 5 times. But if you need to do just one or two rooms, this will do the job, and do it well.

This is an awesome vacuum. I've been looking for a vacuum to keep the hardwood floors in the kitchen clean, and this one is perfect. The build quality is top notch, and it's very quiet while in use. The various positions that can be used are great. I wish it came with Deep-Cleaning Motorized Pet Tool. It's an extra accessory. For $59, it's a bit pricey. I can buy another vacuum for handheld for that price. It does not come with the Onboard Tool Clip. I was unable to clip the Crevice Tool, which I use often, to the vacuum. It's an optional accessory. Since my older Shark vacuum came with one, I removed the clip from it and placed it on this model. Overall it's a very good vacuum.

Was so excited for Sharks new cordless vacuum, but it bombed in my eyes for just one feature. This may not bother most people and if not then this is a five star vac for you. I repeat there is no on board tool storage. Other than that issue I am super happy with this vacuum. Right out of the box the battery had a little power to run it through some tests. We had a Halloween party last night so today was a great day to see what it could do. My first impression was how light it was and also how quiet it sounded. I had the lights down low in the house so the LED lights on the vac made the dusty foot prints on the wood floors really stand out. The soft roller brush on the front made quick work of the those. Going from hard woods to the rugs was as easy as a click of the button and had zero issues there.I did most of the vacuuming holding the canister so the vacuum head would get tight under objects. These have an optional charging dock which I am going to look into since it seems to be a better option, otherwise you can plug in the vacuum to charge it or remove the battery and place it into a charging dock. Comes with three attachments that will get the job done, just need pockets to haul them around while you work. Overall its a great vac but is not perfect, oh so close though.

I am very disappointed in the suction of this machine. It really slows down as soon as I go from kitchen floor to carpet. My $39 stick vacuum has better suction. Am returning.

The double brush rollers are very good at what they do, the vacuum had absolutely no problem picking up loose debris and cereal(my kids usually drop), on any surface. I was actually very pleased with how good it cleans hardwood and tiled floors. The hose is very easy to click out, and run along the edge, to pick up the few stragglers that the roller just can't reach.
The battery feels like the heaviest part of the vacuum, I was a little disappointed by the 30 minute average run time, but for most purposes I think that will be fine, as the suction and rollers work great to get virtually everything, with the first pass.
It's nice that when you separate the canister from the rollers and stand there is a flexible hose that can be used with the accessories, offering a greater range of uses, like on; stairs, ceilings, shelves, cars, etc...
I was also a little disappointed that there were no clips or handles to affix the accessories to the vacuum. So, I keep them in a separate bag in the closet.
As I stated earlier the rollers do great at grabbing everything from the floor, but proved to be a little problematic in one room of mine, where the cats have created burs in the rug. 30 seconds on that rug, and the roller was jammed up, as it pulled a bur, and sucked a large strand of carpet fiber into the rollers. It was easy to remove the carpet strand, but I think I will definitely be avoiding that room with this device. A lot of the other vacuums by Shark and other companies offer new snag free rollers, but then again, those rollers don't provide the grabbing power and polished floor look , that these brushes offer.
Overall this vacuum offers great flexibility being cord free, and convertible from floor stand to just canister. The canister is easy to empty and has a washable filter. The suction is great, and even offers a suction boosting button, for bursts of extra suction.
It even offers 3 different options on how you can charge the battery( 1 option needs additional purchase)
The battery makes this device a little heavier than expected, but worth the sacrifice for the cordless features.
