I was not able to use them. I hand to plug them into my computer to update. I can’t believe I had to do this... but the mic still did not work. I searched for two hours and everything did not work. I made sure it was on the Xbox side made sure all cords was plugged in correctly.... but still my mic was not working. Now I have to return these....

If you are a serious gamer then you have already heard of Astros. They have been some of the most popular gamer headsets for many years. This latest offering continues their tradition of excellence. Pros: - Perfect for streamers and hardcore gamers. Adjust your game and chat volumes on the fly. - Crystal clear audio. Music also sounds amazing! - Comfortable fit for long gaming sessions. - Extraordinary customization opportunities. Mod kits are sold separately. - I love having quick access to a mute button with headsets and this one delivers that with an in line switch. Cons: - Set up is a bit of a hassle with firmware updates but not a huge concern. - They are a bit heavier than I like but the sacrifice for performance is worth it. This model of Astros should be considered by any serious gamers that only want the best quality audio performance. They are top-notch.

The Astro A40 + Mixamp Pro are a great combo for the Xbox. It is packaged very nice. Contents include the headset, mic, mixamp, usb cables, aux cable, optical cable, 2 yr subscription card for Dolby Atmos. Sound: Sound is great, gets loud and you can hear a lot of details. Comfort: These feel comfortable. Earcups are soft and the headband fits snug without being overly tight. Long gaming sessions without discomfort. Mixamp: Nice smooth control knobs. Everything plugs into this and it has preset EQ settings. It is also lighted to see what settings are on, I do wish there was an option to turn this off. But not a deal breaker by any means. Build quality: Seems nicely built. Light weight but a bit on the plastic side but still feels quality. Very customizable. Mod kits are sold separate to modify headbands, speaker covers etc... Overall a very nice pair of gaming headsets that hit a lot of check marks for me.

Designed For Gaming – Fantastic Sound/Versatility

IMHO – This Astro Gaming – A40 TR Wired Stereo Gaming Headset with MixAmp Pro TR Controller is the closest a gamer can get to professional-level, engrossing, multi-dimensional sound. I selected this Astro Stereo Gaming Headset in exchange for an honest review. Wow! I was absolutely blown-away by the penetrating sound dimensions and nuances. The absolute, main reason we buy any headset is for the sound quality. Logitech has developed this headset specifically for gaming. And, they have hit a home run. I have been a audiophile from the early 60's building stereo sets for family and friends. Loved building speakers to reproduce rich, energizing, immersive sound magnitudes to match the recording artist's dynamics. Although this unit is not exactly my favorite headset for all music genres, it does make gaming lively and phenomenal for gaming sounds. My Grand Kids 'hooked' me on games because as a Grandpa I needed to bond with them in the things they were interested in and loved to do. So, at 75 I am probably one of the oldest practicing gamers around..... My Grand Kids have figured out that they can eventually best Grandpa because his fingers are just not as nimble on the controller as theirs are. However, every once in a while Grandpa gets 'lucky'. While they are in school I get to practice and explore all the tips and tricks – Bring it ON. WooHoo! What do I love about this Astro Gaming Headset and MixAmp? ***AUDIO EXCELLENCE*** - ASTRO Audio™ V2 provides the best gaming-theme, digital sound of the particular game that you are playing. Dolby Audio Surround Sound and optional Dolby Atmos. When it comes to background nuances and multi-dimensional sounds gamers like me love to hear, this Astro has no equal. It is designed for serious gamers. I certainly am not one, but I thoroughly enjoy that the percussion sounds are so realistic, and, the background voices, unique sounds only in gaming competitions are so realistic and professional-like. Mic quality is outstanding. My Grand Kids tell me they hear me clear and loud. Love it. The unique high sounds frequently give away enemy positions (Grand Kids). I have listened to Pandora music genres on this headset, and I was super impressed. It is not what this headset is intended for, but proves its versatility and high-quality of sound reproduction. YooHoo! ***MIX AMP PRO TR*** - Intuitive controls put my game to voice equalization, master volume control and my choice of four different EQ settings at my convenience. It features Dolby® Digital Surround Sound processing and supports Windows Sonic. I can control the volume of the mic, game, connect to Xbox, PC, Stream, auxiliary, and daisy chain, which provides connection to multiple units and several players at the same time. This unit enables voice lag-free communication and 2 year Dolby Atmos® activation included with Xbox One licensed products to enhance the headset with spatialized object audio (Xbox One and Windows 10 PC only). One of the greatest attributes I like is the balancing between game and voice. I can shout out instructions, or, other words and expressions my Grand Kids love to hear while they are 'cleaning-my-sox'. ***COMFORTABLE FIT & BUILD*** – This is a quality - built headset. The composite, plastic, adjustable headband and ear cup holders are strong, durable, yet lightweight. The ear cups are made of a comfortable fabric, richly cushioned, and easily worn over both of my ears. After several hours of 'gaming' with my Grand Kids my ears feel refreshed, and, not stressed. Mod Kits are available and include: Noise-Isolating Ear Cushion, Voice-Isolating, Padded Headband, and Closed-Back Speaker Tags. The ear cups are held in place by magnets and easily interchangeable. ***CUSTOM SETTINGS*** – I can customize my headset through the Astro Command Center software making changes to my Astro Mix Amp Pro. It is FREE and available for download for PC and IOS (see pics). This piece of equipment is invaluable for gaming audio settings, and switching from PC to XBOX, daisy chain, auxiliary, and streaming. I set my audio to 'Tournament' because the dynamic audio inspires me to be a better player (see pics). YIKES! ***CONCLUSION*** - As the old saying goes, “you get what you pay for”. This Astro Gaming – A40 TR Wired Stereo Gaming Headset with MixAmp Pro TR Controller is undoubtedly the bestest Headset on the gaming market. After two weeks of constant use, I highly recommend this unit, for gamers, who want the very finest in audio sound, which translates to making you a more focused and better player..... I love it! This makes a extraordinary gift for that special family member or friend, or, for your own personal elevation joy of gaming. Buy it, you won't be disappointed.

The Astro A40 for Xbox delivers impressive audio quality, making it an excellent choice for gaming enthusiasts. Its comfortable design allows for long gaming sessions without discomfort. The MixAmp Pro enhances customization options, providing a balanced audio experience. However, the relatively high price might deter budget-conscious buyers. Overall, the Astro A40 is a solid investment for serious gamers seeking top-notch sound and comfort.

I’ve experienced A50 gen 4, turtle beach ear force elite 800x, Astro a40 gen 3, and everything in-between. I’m Xbox only so I can’t speak for ps4 or PC. This headset on tournament mode with Dolby surround activated is the best of all for Xbox gaming. I can pin point where footsteps/shots are left, right, up, down and the distance at which they are very quickly. The reason it’s better than the A50’s and all wireless headsets is because they have a popping noise in the speaker every so often, loss of connection from time to time, and scratchiness here and there due to the wireless connection. Wired is better regardless of what people claim and happens to be a bit cheaper, win/win. Cons: the biggest con and why I can’t give it a 5 star is because the party chat mic will not work unless you open the command center on a PC and download the firmware update. You’ll have game audio but if you don’t have a PC you will not be able to chat with friends on your Xbox until you can get to one and update it. I think when you spend $250-$300 on a headset it should be ready to go immediately. It took me a lot of research and a couple hours of frustration to figure this out for myself. Also, there’s no off button. Every time you turn off your Xbox it stays on so when you start your Xbox back up the party chat won’t work again until you switch it to PC and back to Xbox, then it will register your headset and assign it so you can chat. Other than the initial issues with set up, once you get it all updated, it’s phenomenal. So comfortable, mix amp is awesome, and above all the directional sound for gaming delivers on every level. Highly recommend this headset but be aware of what you need to do upon set up. If you have any questions I’d be happy to answer them.

Astro is probably the biggest name in gaming headsets, and I now understand why. This A40 setup delivers stellar audio, a classy, modern design, comfort, and portability. Really, it's almost the perfect headset. The good: this is a quality product, one that screams premium device. It looks like a gaming headset, but if you didn't know any better you could mistake it for a high-end pair of headphones. The design is comfortable for long sessions, and in fact, is the most comfortable headset I've ever tried. Audio is great, especially at this price point. It delivers a rich sound that allows you to become immersed in whatever you're playing, and also isn't too shabby for music or video listening too. The MixAmp Pro is also good, albeit with a few caveats behind it. The idea is great, and setting up everything is easy to follow, though the directions could be confusing if you aren't used to hooking up tech. You can use it with Xbox One or PC, and I've tried both. I prefer it with PC simply because the software plays nicer with Windows (from my experience) but it worked either way. I love being able to tweak all the audio settings from the MixAmp rather than have to use Windows mixer, etc. Now, the results are a little quirky, and I found, at times, that changing the overall sound worked better for some games over others, which is to be expected, but something to note. The bad: honestly, the only real con here is that there isn't any carrying case for the headset itself. Every other headset I've ever bought has come with a pouch, case, etc. to tote around if needed, but the A40's did not. That said, this is the minor-ist of gripes. Overall, I would not hesitate to recommend this to anyone looking to upgrade their gaming or audio experience on Windows PC or Xbox One.

The Astro A40 TR stands out with its excellent build quality and comfortable design. It's primarily made of durable plastic with metal accents for added sturdiness. The ear cups are covered with soft, breathable material, providing comfort during long gaming sessions. The adjustable headband and lightweight design ensure a snug fit without causing discomfort. One of the standouts features of the Astro A40 TR is its modularity. The ear cup covers are detachable and can be swapped out for different designs, allowing for personalization. The headset also supports optional add-ons, such as noise-canceling ear cushions and a different microphone, catering to different gaming environments

Installation is as simple as plugging in all components as outlined in quick start guide. I found this process to be quick and easy and installed the headset with the audio controller. I am using the headset for PC gaming thus far, but it would be a great option for Xbox One also. The headset is tuned specifically for gaming and the sound quality did not disappoint. I was very happy with the premium audio. The mixamp pro is a very nice tool when it comes to playing multiplayer games with your friends. It allows you to change the volume of your voice chat in relation to the volume of your game super fast. It also allows you to switch between other setups you may have connected to it at the push of a button. One great feature is the fact that you can customize the headset to your liking. They offer different colors and options for their mod kits which is very nice. The one fault that this headset has in my opinion is the fact that it is a little on the heavy side. During prolonged use it can get a little tiring to wear. However, I find this worth the tradeoff to get a quality, well built product. Overall, I'd highly recommend the Astro A40 + MixAmp Pro for gamers who are looking for a headset that offers great sound, nice customization features, adjustability and quality.

Great quality even if there is a bit more plastic than I would want for $250, at least it isn't cheap, flimsy plastic, but I'd want a little more metal and soft-touch once you get to this amount. The mixamp itself is heavy, solid controls interface, nice click and movement to all things that should click and move -- a very nice piece to compliment the headphones. I really have no complaints this any of the headphones, even the aforementioned materials aren't that big of a deal, but I wanted to point it out all the same. My actual complaint(s) lie with the software. Once you plug everything in and go to update the firmware you simply can't do it. You are stuck with whatever firmware it shipped with. I don't know if that really matters at the end of the day, I un-plugged everything, restarted the Astro software, and when it asked me the next time if I wanted to upgrade I refused and used everything as it shipped. So I'm not really sure what that is all about, but when I researched it more, it seems to be an EXTREMELY common issue. So, if you are fine with not updating these, they are easily a 4-5 star offering. If you want 100% functionality from the physical unit AND software, wait until Astro gets their act together in that regard. Otherwise, the software works just fine. You can adjust EQ levels, assign profiles to the 4 slots and replace the defaults. There is also the ability to go online and download other users profiles. Back to the headphones themselves; sound quality is very nice. There are 4 shortcuts on the mixamp to cycle between and you can setup a favorite profile that you can click to with a single button push. There is a mod pack (sold separately) to alter them from closed back to open back, but in a gaming environment I don't know why you would want to do that as you get noise leak both into and out of the cans. The larger knob on the mixamp controls volume and has a nice weight to it's rotation. The smaller adjusts the balance between audio and mic, with a notch in the rotation at 50% so you know exactly when it's balanced, a nice touch. There are tons of hookups for opitcal, usb, micro, etc etc on the back of the mixamp to connect to multiple devices and streaming interfaces. There is a two position toggle on the back to switch between PC and Xbox, with an illuminated notification on the front to inform you of it's position. I still recommend it even though the software has issues in regards to updating. You can still use them as is, but I'd maybe hold off until they go on sale.

Very Good Quality, Astro makes the best headphones out there and also has the most comfortable headset’s out there. They’re okay, sound is muddy sounding and just hard to hear things like footsteps at times if too much is going on. Mic is decent. The plus side is they’re compatible with most gaming devices which is very convenient and they’re comfortable. If you can snag them for around 150 it’s a good buy but anything more I would look elsewhere.

Sound is GREAT and the Mixamp Pro allows for a nice amount of customization. The included instructions and resources were not adequate in explaining how to get the sound to work properly. I was having problems with my microphone not picking up complete sentences when using with my Xbox One. I had to resort to YouTube videos and it was very time consuming. It turns out that I had to hook it up to a PC and make some adjustments via my computer to get it to work. Overall, once it's been set up properly, I'm very happy with the sound and comfort of the headphones. This may not be for you if you aren't tech minded. If you are, then you can tweak this headset to be exactly the way you want it!

Super Comfortable and custimizable headset. Quality construction not made from cheap plastic. Provides great sound that is adjustable through app on computer to get the exact sound output (with mix amp only). The mix amp allows you to easily hone in on the in-game sound or chat with ease. My only issue is there is no way to turn off the mix amp or headset other than unplugging from the console or PC. Then if you don’t the microphone won’t work the next time you use the headset so you have to disconnect and reconnect to audio providing source.

Made my grandson jealous! He has the Version A10. I admit it, these are very comfortable headsets. I wore it in the office for a few hours and almost forgot they were on till I started to leave my desk and realized they were still attached to my head. The DOLBY noise reduction was amazing. Binaural audio is best heard in headsets. * I especially liked the quite, smooth transition when I changed the volume on the MIXAMP. No static like some cheap volume controls. * The DOLBY switch to pass through works great too. * While I mostly kept the MIXAMP (right knob) centered, you can notice some sort of filtering or tuning of the sound by turning the knob. * Dolby ATMOS(phere) seemed to make objects able to be sensed all around me, left, right, behind and above me. Amazing. * Comfortable microphone arm can be plugged in on the left or right headset thanks to the magic of magnets used to hold the headphone covers in place. COOL! * My grandson love playing ROBLOX on my large screen TV with headsets on so they can play online with their friends online. Keeps the house a little quieter than over my stereo amp and room speakers! * Game writers go through a lot of trouble to give us great audio and the Astro does then proud. Tournament Ready* * Close your eyes and your sure to feel the sounds come alive. Great bass from drum beats. * A friend of mine who plays the trumpet thinks they sound great. I agree. * Nice touch: Letter R and L on the headset posts.

One of the best headsets I’ve used. Stays comfortable after multiple hours of use. The sound quality is pretty good and there’re lots of options for different listening experiences. The price is a little up there but for years of use, its worth it. This is actually the second pair I’ve purchased. First one went to my brother, still running strong.
