Very comfortable. Great for the sale price and listening on a laptop. Took an act of congress to conect to xbox series x but I think that was more xbox than headset. Sounds great on music and movies but not loud enough on xbox, again probably xboxs problem.

Best sound money can buy. They fit my head perfect and don't get hot or sweaty. The only complaint is the cord that attachs to them goes straight down out the bottom. It pokes me directly on the side of my neck sometimes. If the connection was soft or moved a little forward I'd give it 5/5.

I upgraded to this from a turtle beach stealth 300. The overall quality is way better than the TB. Here’s my biggest complaint: the input for the headphones is pointed down towards the left shoulder, so with the cable plugged in, it’s always rubbing my shoulder and getting in the way. Surely there is a better design for that!
Other than that, I love them. They are comfortable, I never have problems with people not hearing me. The cables that go to the mix amp do get a little annoying, but I move around a lot. If you had a way to put the mix amp somewhere you didn’t need to move it, then it would be a non-issue. The mix amp lets you balance the game and party chat, and has limited equalizer effects (which I don’t really use much). I have no problems localizing directional sound with these. No regret getting these, I would do it again.

Best headset I've ever owned the bad reviews for this headset can all be solved by turning the mix amp on after the console is turned on and the microphone is great quality just use the astro command center and go to mic settings and set it to streaming. To make this the best headset ever get these accessories https://sewelldirect.com/products/usb-power-switch. https://www.oregonaero.com/component/ecwid/SoftTop®-Headset-Cushion-10017-p47791357

I purchased this for my Xbox One X after weeks of research. While I will admit I am no audiophile, this headset has met and exceeded my expectations. I was looking for a headset that provided great in game audio as well as an excellent mic for multiplayer games. When playing in campaign mode the audio is excellent. At half volume the audio is loud and the audio is clear. I never knew what I was missing before just using a sound bar. I can hear footsteps and the direction they are coming from and I can wear the headset for hours without issue. The mic is clear and others state it sounds great. As an added bonus I can plug my cell phone into the aux port with a 4 pole audio cable and pause the game to take calls without having to remove the headset. This was an unexpected bonus. Overall I am completely pleased with this headset! The MixAmp pro really is a must for this headset. It sounds ok without the MixAmp, however, the MixAmp makes the headset come alive!

Pretty good it’s just a bolt came out of the headsets and that shouldn’t be happening, considering I bought protection it is not that big of a deal, but for those that don’t buy protection, be careful. The software on these headsets honestly would make this one star, only reason why it is getting a 3 star is because of the sound quality, it is decent. Beyond that a good pair of headsets.

I have had Astro A40s since the Xbox 360 days and they have never done me wrong. Great comfort and quality. The mix amp is nice and is pretty much plug and play. Download the astro comand center on PC and console to update and customize the EQ settings. I will always recommend astro over any headset.

No documentation, no phone support but top quality

As a previous owner of Astro A50s I have come to love the Astro brand, despite some definite flaws. For the Astro A40 I was looking forward to a really high quality headset without the flaws found in the Astro A50 concerning the rechargeable batteries. When the Astro A40 arrived it was very impressive with the way that it was packaged. It definitely exudes high quality in how they present it when you are opening the box. So far, so good! The problem began when I saw the "documentation" consisted of a two page glossy insert that demonstrates the basic functionality of the actual headset while completely ignoring all aspects of the more complicated MixAmp Pro TR controller. The very light documentation refers the consumer to a couple of videos to watch regarding setup. There is no actual written documentation for setup, nor is there any actual documentation of all of the aspects of the different selectors, switches, etc of the MixAmp Pro TR. I did go and watch both videos and setup the headset and the MixAmp Pro TR according to the video but I did notice that the MixAmp Pro TR that I had did not match what was in the videos. A quick search of the Astro gaming site revealed a bit of documentation of the MixAmp Pro but none of it actuall showed the newer (side-by-side knobs) MixAmp Pro TR, and instead showed the older version. The only way to actually get any idea what the various buttons and connections of the MixAmp Pro TR did was to look at the back of the box on the feature set.
I began setup of my headset and MixAmp Pro TR and it seemed simple enough. However, once connected I could get no sound nor would the microphone work. After about an hour to hour and a half of trying various things in Windows, as well as attempting to change settings on the MixAmp Pro TR I was at a wits end. I am the last person to ever want to call support but at this point I felt I had no options and so I called the number contained in my documentation. This number rang to...Logitech? I guess Logitech owns Astro? Anyways, they said "Oh here is the number for Astro support" and then proceeded to give me a new number. I called this number, go through the various options to get to an agent and am then informed that they can only accept an order for a product or refer me to a website if I want to purchase something. When asked what the correct number for phone technical support for my new A40 headset with MixAmp Pro TR I was told that there is none, only email support. For a $250 headset there is no phone support? Seriously?
I finally did email the support and a few hours (I believe two) got an answer with some general tips to try. One tip said to try the headset on other systems, say perhaps an iPhone or another PC. I tried connecting to my work PC and it did not work, no sound, no mic. I tried connecting to my iPhone and nothing. Then I unplugged the cable and plugged it to my iPad and voila! sound!! As it turns out the 1/8" jack to 1/8" jack that is provided is not bi-directional, it only works one way. And that way is with the mute box (a small 3/4" box) nearest the actual headset. Once I realized that I connected it back to my PC and lo and behold, the sound worked just plain as day.
The microphone though still did not work and the volume knobs both showed red, indicating (I guess?) that the system was muted. I still could not figure out though how to unmute it. Again, no documentation and no explanation of much of anything. What the box was on the inline cord? A mute button? I believed it to be a mute button of some sort but it didn't seem to have anything to press. After a few minutes of fiddling with it I figured out that it's a slider. It's a bit difficult to push but once you do it mutes the headset. You will know this because once you push it hard enough then the slider moves and the dials go from red to white, indicating that you are no longer muted. And lo and behold the microphone then worked perfectly fine.
All in all once I got everything working, which because of the lack of documentation and lack of phone support, took about two hours altogether, the headset worked really well. Music and games sound really great and I didn't even get the volume knob anywhere close to maximum. I think I got it about 65% and at that rate it was very, very loud. The microphone, per my teammates on my PC Division 2 game, said that they could hear me well and without much issue. They all indicated it was the same quality as my Astro A50 that I had been previously using. The ability to adjust the game volume versus the chat line volume is HUGE and very welcome as it makes it a really quick and easy way to balance out the game sounds of gunfire with your friends voices. This is the best thing about the headset I think. Originally I had planned to test this headset with my Xbox One as well but after the completely frustrating setup experience with the PC I decided not to so this review only covers the PC side.
The only other issue of note that I should mention is that there is no mute when you flip the microphone up, which most headsets have. You do have to remember to manually push the mute button slider on the inline cord or the microphone will not be muted. This is more of an annoyance than any serious complaint. And the fact that the volume knobs do both turn red when muted will serve to remind you if the system is muted or not (assuming you have the knobs where they can be seen). As for the fit and how they feel, they feel fantastic and very comfortable, even a bit more so in my opinion than the Astro A50, which until this headset I considered as the best and most comfortable headset to wear. I also noticed I did not get as hot after using these for several hours as well so that's a bonus if you sometimes find that you get hot while wearing a gaming headset.
So in the end do I recommend it? Yes, I definitely do. These are a high quality, really enjoyable headset to use. I did send a detailed email to the Astro support team complaining about lack of documentation, both with the product itself as well as on their online web site. There is also no excuse whatsoever for such a premium product to be lacking phone support. If they do not want to provide that then at the very least chat support should be provided. Because while they did get back to me via email fairly quickly when I had an issue, within two hours, it is still not right to have to wait even that amount of time to get answers when you've invested so much in a product of this nature.
Normally, because of the high quality of the product I would award this product 5 stars. However, I am deducting one star for lack of documentation and one star for lack of phone support for a total rating of 3 stars. If Astro could address these issues this would become highly recommended but until then it is simply...RECOMMENDED.

I recently purchased this headset 2/24/21 and I must say these are pretty amazing. I’m not too picky when it comes to headsets but these knocked it out the park.
FIRST THINGS FIRST THOUGH.
- YOU WILL NEED TO UPDATE THE MIXAMP TO THE LATEST FIRMWARE (v. 36797) BEFORE USING THIS WITH YOUR XBOX. THE FIRMWARE (v. 34242 i believe that’s what it is called) THAT IS FACTORY INSTALLED WILL NOT ASSIGN TO YOUR XBOX. THEREFORE THE MIC WILL NOT WORK UNLESS YOU UPDATE IT.
-ASTRO COMMAND CENTER. DOWNLOAD FROM ASTROS WEBSITE NOT WINDOWS MARKET. PLEASE HAVE A WINDOWS 10 COMPUTER TO UPDATE TO THE LATEST FIRMWARE OR ELSE IT WILL NOT BE ABLE TO UPDATE. FOR SOME REASON YOU’RE NOT ABLE TO UPDATE, UNINSTALL COMMAND CENTER AND REINSTALL. IF IT STILL DOESNT PROMPT THE UPDATE OR YOU ARE STUCK AT 0%, USE ANOTHER COMPUTER.
My setup experience was a huge headache but once I was able to install the latest firmware, my Xbox was recognizing the headset and assigned it to the GT. I was able to use it right after the update. I recommend this headset to someone who has access to computers and is some what savvy.. Not your regular plug and play person.

These headphones sound great out of the box ad come with the usual components as before. They have a much sturdier build from the previous version of the A40's (2013). The headphones have kept their hold after about a month of use. I like that you can remove the ear cups and mic and place them on whatever side of your head that you desire. It was a nice added touch. The mix amp is oriented differently this time around which I also like alot more than the previous A40's. My only major gripe with this headset is the software from Astro Gaming. They do not have it available from their website so if you get these headphones you need to get it from the Microsoft store app. (Not sure where you get it if you are using a mac or running linux on your pc) I already had a problem updating the software and it appears to still not have a fix.

Mic was not operable straight out of the box for me on my Xbox One S digital edition console. Had to buy a separate TRRS audio cable to operate the mic, cable was very cheap but it is kind of pathetic a $250 headset did not include the TRRS cable i had to purchase for $2 online and wait until arrival to be able to function entirely. There are 2 POSSIBLE, i have not confirmed either, ways to operate the microphone without purchasing this TRRS cable. I read around a lot about this headset after purchasing, unfortunately, and the Xbox One X is supposed to be able to operate the microphone without this additional cable. The only reason i ended up keeping it is because I’m hoping the Xbox Series X will be able to operate the microphone without this additional cable as well. Your second possible way to operate without this cable is by plugging in the USB into a WINDOWS operated computer and updating the firmware on the amp itself. Unfortunately i do not have a windows computer so i was unable to test this out. Another selling point for me that ended up not quite being what was advertised was the Game to Voice control knob. It was to my understanding i would easily be able to silence other people’s microphones and only hear game audio by turning the knob as far to game as i could go. Once again, this only adjusts the volume of other players mics if you are in party chat, does absolutely nothing for game chat. So in my honest opinion it is quite overpriced for all these downfalls. Sure it’s a cool concept, but it is just a concept and not a reality. Looks cool on paper but doesn’t function as it should. Has the potential to be priced at $250 if they fixed these problems but as of right now i would recommend the $250 option Turtle Beach has to offer.

I definitely feel like these headphones give a very amped up gaming experience. The build quality feels solid and are very comfortable, although they can be a bit difficult to adjust while wearing. If you want clear audio and a well working microphone, this are the headphones to get. Not only does it come with an amp to boost audio, it also has software you can download to hear footsteps in games better! Although I’m new to these headphones, I know there are more things I can adjust to make it even better. It is also compatible with Xbox and PS4; however, it does not work for the PS4 Slim, because it does not have an optical port. You also have to mess with the equalizer settings on the software to find what best suits you in games and in general use.

I loved the headset. It was very comfortable, and sounded great. I also liked the DAC because it allowed me to listed to my laptop audio while playing on my Xbox. I ended up returning this and going with the A50 headset for one reason....the neck 3.5mm cable was much longer than any other 3.5mm cable I've used, and if I moved my head slightly, it would touch my neck. Really 1rst world problem....but if I'm spending this much on a headset, I don't want common annoyances like that. If that's not an issue to you...then get this headset.

The sound quality and comfort of this headset is incredible! I originally purchased the Steelseries Arctis Pro and was really disappointed after spending $329. I returned them in exchange for the Astro A40 and I'm so happy I did. Not only do these sound way better but they're also $80 cheaper! The sound is clear and the bass is tight and punchy. The virtual surround sound is perfectly balanced without sounding artificial. The mixer box makes adjusting the sound super easy, and it looks and feels like a high quality piece of equipment. I highly recommend these for anyone who wants the best out of there gaming experience!

Heaphone started great and sounds just as you would expect for price. I love the fact the the mic can be placed on either side with a swap of an ear cup cover and headpeice and earcup foam can be rplaced with ease as they are only held on with 8 strong magnets, 4 in earcops and 4 on the pad mount. The only problem i have with the headset is now after a month of use, i cannot use the Dolby Atmos feature for movies and certain games. A call to support has not resolved this issue still.

Astro Mixamp Headset Review

My favorite headset by far. It can be closed-back or open-back which is really nice. Having it as “open-back” doesn’t widen the soundstage but it makes it easier to hear everything around you. The bass is great but not too much, and the treble is a perfect level from the start and the high frequencies don’t hurt your ears. The game/voice audio is VERY helpful if you like to listen to music while playing games so you can easily turn the music or the game up and down. I also use it for voice chat so I can turn my friends voices down if they get too loud. The mic quality is actually very good and the mic can be put on either side of the headset. Now for the software, it’s not perfect but it’s simple and works well enough. There is also an “easy mute” function with a switch on the cable going to the headset. If you have the extra money to spring for the extra features of a mix amp, this is a great choice.

Amazing sound. Quality build. Controller build quality also solid. The focusing more on game sound or chat works very well. Feels great on head. I am told my mic sounds great.
Would be nice to have a flip up the mic mute function.
Do I recommend. Yes
Would I shoot for the A40 Stand aliens at $70 cheaper. Maybe. Having audio control like this is a plus.
My one con is the cords are not braided. They tangle easily. But that is in no way a deal breaker.
Would I consider wireless for $300? Probably not. Do I think they are worth $300 yes.
This product after a good amount of use is worth the $200 I paid
