I recently purchased the Astro A40 TR headset, and I have to say, it has exceeded my expectations in every way. This headset is a true gaming masterpiece. First and foremost, the audio quality is exceptional. The sound is incredibly clear, with rich bass and crisp highs that immerse you in your games and make every detail come to life. Whether it's the thundering footsteps of an enemy approaching or the subtle nuances of a game's soundtrack, the A40 TR delivers it all with precision. Comfort is another standout feature. The headset is lightweight and has plush ear cushions that are a dream to wear for extended gaming sessions. The adjustable headband ensures a perfect fit, and I've worn it for hours without any discomfort. The microphone quality is top-notch as well. Crystal-clear communication with my teammates is crucial, and the A40 TR's mic delivers. Background noise is effectively canceled out, allowing for clear and concise communication. Build quality is impressive. The headset feels robust and durable, and the customizable speaker tags are a nice touch for personalization. The MixAmp Pro adds another layer of versatility, allowing for precise audio adjustments and Dolby Atmos support for an even more immersive experience. Lastly, the Astro Command Center software provides a wealth of customization options, from audio presets to EQ settings, ensuring you can fine-tune the headset to your liking. In summary, the Astro A40 TR is a five-star headset that excels in every aspect. If you're serious about gaming and want the best audio experience, this is the headset to get. It's a true game-changer, and I couldn't be happier with my purchase.

The Astro A40 TR Gaming Headset + MixAmp Pro TR Controller is a very nice gaming headset, even the packaging is has a certain 'wow' factor to it. Upon opening the box, it's clear that alot of thought was put into the design of this headset, both for style and functionality; it looks great and just feels well made. This headset is a bit heavier than my current Logitech set, but they're also quite a bit more comfortable. The extra padding on the earcups and headband go a long way toward that added comfort, but I believe the headband adjusters are a huge reason they're more comfortable; once you get them where you want them, they stay put and the headset seems to simply hug your head. I've worn these for hours, even while working, and so far I've never felt like I needed a rest from them. The sound from this headset is superb, especially with the ability to set up customized EQ settings that can be switched with the press of a button on the mixamp. The headset is also highly customizable. You can place the mic on either side, swap out the earcups, headband, and even swap out the magnetized eartags for customized ones if you like. I have the headset hooked to my PC, and I haven't used all of the functionality of the mixamp. However, the mixamp, like the headset, seems very well built. It's heavier than I expected, and the dials offer some resistance when you're adjusting them, so midgame, you're not going to accidentally swing the volume too far. Also, as I mentioned earlier, I found the ability to switch between 4 EQ settings by merely pressing a button to be quite useful when gaming. The downloadable software from Astro allows you to change the EQ presets, mic settings, and even create your own settings files that you can save and load. This allows you to easily fine tune the sound to your liking. Overall, I think this is great headset. The comfort and sound are both greater than the previous headsets I currently have, so I'm fairly confident I'll be using these going forward. I would recommend these in a heart beat.

Great headset, the build quality is superb and they produce great and clear sound. Voice over mic is clear too! Install was easy on my PC. Plug the mixamp via USB, then the headset to it. It was recognized. Then, download the Astro command center FROM THE WINDOWS APP STORE (not the one from Astro's website, or you will have problems). There was a firmware update, and the I was ready to go. It comes with 4 equalizer presets, which one can modify. The volume and chat balance dials feel sturdy and made with great quality, I'm loving this setup and its helping me improve my sound positioning in Rainbow six Siege, which is vital! They were a little bit stiff out of the box, but after a 30 min gaming session, they became way comfier and no problems with my glasses. The sound quality and the surround sound is superb, as long as you follow my tips bellow, for PC users. @@@PC USERS TIPS@@@ 1-Download the Astro command center from the WINDOWS APP STORE, not from Astro's web, only the Windows app store version works ok with this gen 4 device. 2- The included Dolby audio surround on the Mixamp is only for the PS 4 (or if you output dolby digital live from your PC's sound card, in short, its only for when the mixamp is receiving audio via optical port), don't use it if you have the MIXAMP via USB!, how to bellow. 3- In order to correctly get surround sound on a PC via a USB connection, you must set the MIXAMP TO PASSTHROUGH MODE, THAT IS THE STAR ON THE FIRST BUTTON TO THE TOP. Then: Head to the Windows Settings > System > Sound > Sound Control Panel on the right hand side. Under the playback devices, right click on the ASTRO MixAmp Pro Game and select Properties. Select Spatial Sound. Change the Spatial Sound Format to either Windows Sonic for Headphones or Dolby Atmos for Headphones and enable the turn on 7.1 virtual surround sound. This is straight from the horses mouth, Astro. Unfortunately they failed to put this on their manual, but their reddit community is very active and I got this directly from an Astro rep. This is how they recommend it to be plugged in a PC via USB, otherwise if you enable the dolby audio on the mixamp all you will get is reverberation and echo but not truly positional surround sound. Also, if they wanted the above, they should have included a code for the Dolby Atmos purchase on windows, but its not that expensive, $15, but for the price of the headset, I feel a free code should have been included. I hope this helps PC users, if you follow the above, you will get great surround quality sound! PS4 users, can use the included Dolby on the mixamp, as it works fine with dolby via optical.

I’ve had these astros for exactly 3 weeks and have several other headphones and headsets to compare them to. The paint on the headband is cheap and I just noticed that it has been chipping. Not a deal breaker but for this price and this early for the paint to be deteriorating is not great.

Pretty disappointed ASTROS products. Headset cable eventually gives out and needs to be replaced. After many times of replacing the cable, headset can partially be heard through one side or nothing at all. Definitely recommend purchasing the warranty for these. Did not get my money’s worth.

Sound quality is decent, mic clarity is very good, but unfortunately the quality of the headset is very poor. After less than a year the plastic is chipping away despite me babying the headset(always hang it up and I don't have a huge head). For the price i expected better.

Good Headset in 2023, Last Gen Focused

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

TL:DR A good headset for PC, bypass for current generation consoles. Not bad for music. I purchased these headphones in Sept of 2019 and found them to be a solid option for gaming on the PS4 Pro at the time. The sound quality is definitely in that 70/30 range, where it covers the middle 70% of the sound range. The treble is a touch lacking, and the bass can go comfortably low, but probably a 15% loss in range on each. Definitely a solid gaming headset though as it had good mic clarity and clear audio. The MixAmp is nice to have for on-the-fly adjustments, no doubt about that, but is still kind of bland in terms of actual controls. The first thing I did was update the firmware and it made a world of difference in sound quality. Having the preset buttons was nice to cycle through depending on whether I was gaming online or solo. Comfort wise, the headset rests well on my head but does get a little warm after an hour or so, but hey not many headsets are able to vent well so in my experience it is pretty average. The not so great; when I upgraded to PS5, the adapter they made really was inadequate. To bypass the optical connection the PS5 no longer had, their adapter was splitting audio off the HDMI. The kicker was that the adapter interrupted the video signal and then forced it to go through a lower HDMI 2.0 vs 2.1. This matters as I have an OLED CX that is able to do 4k at 120hz, which the PS5 is also capable of, yet the adapter reduces the output to 4k at 60hz max. When I reached out to customer support on this, they basically told me "not everyone has a TV with HDMI 2.1 so get over it." Well, now in 2023, most TVs come standard with at least one 2.1 port, so poor choice on their side, and the sass was less than appreciated. That being said, I do have this headset connected to my gaming PC and in 2023, it is still a great option if you are using it for that medium. Side note, I listen to music on this headset on the PC as well, and it isn't a bad option to jam out to since you can access the EQ in their app. The software is kind of bland as well, but it gets the job done. No, it is nowhere near my Focal Clear's, but not bad for an inexpensive alternative.

The Astro A40 TR Gaming Headset + MixAmp Pro TR for the PS4 and PC are very comfortable to wear for extended periods of time and they are easy to adjust once they are on your head. I really like the barrel design of the arms and the removable microphone that you can attach to either side. The ear pads are a cloth material and fit nicely over my ears. They don’t block outside noise, which I would have preferred that they did, If you did want that feature Astro has a mod kit available to block out the noise. Over all construction is very good for these and they appear that they can take a lot of abuse and still work. The box that it comes in can also serve as a storage case and everything can be secured safely. The mix amp wasn’t a strong feature for me and I had some varying results with it. Some times I felt it was too much and others it was just too quite, but I am not an expert in using this and this is my first one so I was probably not doing it correctly. The mix amp is heavier than it looks and it also feels very well made. The dials have a very satisfying feel to them and they have some resistance to their movement. It allows you to use either Dolby or pass-through if your current set up already has Dolby. Included in the box are all the cables that you need, USB (provides power as well), 3.5mm with inline mute switch, optical audio (for PS4 connection), and the cable for connecting multiple mix amps. The Astro gaming software will allow you to configure customized EQ settings so you can fine tune everything to your exact liking. I was happy with the presets that are already present and I didn’t play around too much with that. I think over time I would see a need for these for specific games. The removable microphone is a bit long and I wish it was shorter, but it does sound good and my friends had no issues with hearing me at all. I really do like that you can mount it on either ear when you swap the covers. Overall, I am very happy with the sound, fit, and adjustments you can make with the gaming volume with this headset. This is definitely the most premium gaming headset that I have every owned.

This is my second pair. Purchased for my girlfriend who plays on my other PC. The bottom line: these are the best headphones I've ever owned and worth the premium price. Sound quality is great, comfort is top notch, and the microphone is well balanced with decent bass. For me, the Mixamp is a priority. It allows great boost and incredible management of volume control and auxillary connection. It's expensive, sure, but truly worth every penny. Just a note: the presets for EQ aren't great, but there are a ton of audiophile presets out there that you can download or set up yourself. This is really the only requirement I have out of the box. Look up Zalias for some great gaming presets to use.

This headset is extremely comfortable and is one of the best quality sounding gaming headsets that money can buy. The mix amp works flawlessly and the Astro gaming software that you download on your PC allows you to customize your sound frequencies and provides you with your optimized gaming experience. Unfortunately, the mix amp itself does not have a power button on it compared to the previous generation. I personally enjoyed the power button on the mix amp when I am using my PS4 and I would like to instantly change sound output to my television, monitor, or soundbar. However, the comfortability and the sound quality of the headset is incredible and it makes up for the missing power options. Gaming audio, music, and videos are crisp in the ears, bass frequencies really balanced out of the box, and the cable length of the headset is at a great length.

This headset is very comfortable. Great sound quality, and the mixamp is helpful while playing games online with friends. Sidenote. I ordered this online and got it delivered. When received, I noticed the seal was already broken on the item box, not delivery box. I thought that was weird so I inspected the headphones first, only to find hair follicles all inside the headphones. Yes, they sent me a used item. I went to a local bestbuy that had one in stock to make an exchange. I was lucky that the manager there found it equally as disgusting, and took care of the exchange, and more.
