Make sure you allow 2-3 mapping runs first (not cleaning runs) then it creates a map. From there, you can set zones where you do and don’t want it to go and it works PERFECTLY! Its amazing how it “knows” where to go! It does have quite the suction so i would not let it go on a wool rug. (Which is why i made a no go zone) but it stays away now!
Love it!

We bought this not even a week ago and it had been nothing but problems. I keep trying to give it another chance and its aggravating. The first day the app failed- which was not irobots problem however literally in the first 24 hours the brush broke in 2 from wrapping. Its unreal how fragile the brushes are. Irobot said they would replace it but its not normally something covered by warranty- but due to time I ordered a replacement. Then the poweboost stop working on carpet. It is running very weak.
WHEN it works it is an amazing product. However we've had more issues then we should in one week. Id rather just vacuum myself at this point to not deal with all the issues. Will be returning and trying a different brand.

I bought the S9 to replace an I7+ Had trouble making its way back to the dock. The S9 does a much better job around the edges and corners. It also seems to do a better job in the floor pattern it’s covering so that it doesn’t leave untouched floor. I used the walls from previous iRobots to keep it from going where it shouldn’t until it created a map of our house. Once the map was saved, I drew in a no go zone and it doesn’t go there. It Miraculously runs until full (dog hair and even all the smallest grit), empties, then continues until the battery runs low, then it recharges and goes again until it has finished the whole house. iRobot updates their software regularly, with continued improvements. I did have a error code that indicated a motor problem. It was still under warranty. iRobot sent me a brand new machine to replace the faulty one and had me send back the old one. I am very happy with the S9 and I’m now contemplating the iRobot mop.

I purchase this unit on Oct 22, 2020 and by the end of Nov I had returned it. The first two weeks it worked as it was suppose too. It does very well on tile and wood floors. The bedrooms have carpet and it seem to have a hard time making the transition. The best part was it empties itself out. Here is the reason for the 2 stars. In mid Nov, it stated error 31, which is a communication error. I called Irobot tech support and followed their instructions to reboot the unit. After several days of trying it would never reboot. I was told to just push the clean button and it would still vacuum. But it would not move and kept saying error 31. After many days of the S9 saying error 31, we returned it to Best Buy and purchased a different brand. Irobot sent an email days later saying the unit had to be replace. They shipped a replacement to us, which we then sent back to Irobot. Their customer service was difficult to get hold of, maybe because of the current environment or holiday and they did send out a replacement, but we had already returned the non working unit to Best Buy.

Bad Reviews But Great Experience So Far

I've read a lot of bad reviews, but so far this vacuum is SO GOOD. The improved suction is a godsend. I had the i7 (no automatic bin) and it worked ok, but after awhile it left clumps of hair. Since we have a Husky, I didnt entirety blame the i7 roomba, but the s9+ gets everything, even on the carpet. I'd say it works great, but definitely not the cheapest option.

I set Rosie up to clean twice a day. I have wall to wall, tile, plank laminate, and area rugs. She is great on them all. She gets crevices I didn't see! She does need a couple of passes to get everything. Shenis also a bit noisy, but I schedule her at tiescare. i do n't

Do not buy this product. First and foremost they do not tell you that you have to run the robot during the day or leave the lights on for the the robot to work. That is irritating but not the Main issue.
The main problem is the false data reported between the robot and the app. For instance the app will say it cleaned even though the robot didn’t. The app continues the false appearance of “Great work” with fancy maps show where it “cleaned”. A great example of this can be seen in the photos attached. It reports cleaning the kitchen even though it was completely boxed in!
If you do get the vacuum to run, it is extremely loud even on “Quiet Clean”. For as much as this thing costs, you would think the would have sorted that out.
To complete the bad experience. The customer service people are almost useless. Most seem to just read from a bad script. Then make things up on the fly to explain the inadequacies of the product.
I love tech and I’m typically a first wave adopter. This has been a horrible experience and completely regret buying this product!

Great product. Super simple to use and effective. I have 3 pets and it does a great job picking up the hairs. It works on almost all carpets we have at home except one because is to thick and it gets stuck on that one but in general it does a good job.

I did not have the opportunity to test the actual vacuum capabilities because this robot could not navigate my house. I read prior reviews, instruction manuals and watched tutorials so understand that it requires more than one run through for this, but I was not able to navigate any of my rooms, even moderately correctly. The robot could not clear area rugs when the space between the wall and rug was close to the same size as rhe robot. It also could not clear a door jamb between rooms to get back to its dock. The concept of this is great but not functional in my reality. I cannot comment correctly on quality because I never could use it, but its no value for this price to be totally useless. Further comment. I have a tradition home layout with central hallway separating the bedrooms and all hardwoods and area rugs. And puppies added for cuteness!

I love this vacuum. Perfect for regular tidying up but not enough to replace a full size vacuum for a deep clean. I have 2 dogs and this keeps up with most of the dog hair. The app is easy to use and works in conjunction with the braava mop robot. Replacement parts are pricy from Irobot but 3rd party parts of Amazon work just as well and help you save money. I would suggest purchasing a mid tier model as this one is definitely a splurge and really only worth the price if you are willing to pay a premium for looks. It functions just as well as my j7 that is this minus the looks and the extra bells and whistles.

Do not buy, this model has a fundamental design flaw. The edge brush is screwed into a nylon plastic post that after just 2-3 brush changes will be stripped out. There is no repair without replacing the entire edge bush motor module.

I compared this to other vacuums and this had the best features at the time. The path algorithm is great. Nothing has ever gotten stuck in the hair roller or the disposal. The app is mostly great except for some minor user experience issues like it keeps trying to zoom out every time I finish drawing a custom shape on the map and I have to zoom in again to draw another. It works great with Google Assistant.
Some cons. The base is right next to the kitchen, only 3 feet away, yet it does not take that short route but goes the long way to the living room to get to the other end of the kitchen and starts there. I have no idea why. Small problem though since it ends up doing its job in the kitchen.
As I did for the mop, I also armored up this vacuum so that it doesn't scratch itself when it touches stuff while vacuuming.
Overall, I am very satisfied with the quality and ease of use.

I've owned a number of previous Roomba models, including the 980 and i7+, and the s9+ was a huge disappointment.
It is fine on hardwood floors and low pile carpets, but it catastrophically fails on our high quality plush new carpet. Whenever the s9 encounters any kind of adversity while on plush carpet, it very quickly thinks that it is stuck and calls for help. We have tried patiently for weeks and done everything we could to help this model succeed in our home, but it's no use. The s9+ is so bad on plush carpet that it will frequently get stuck facing head first into walls. It drives into the wall, grinds it wheels stubbornly for a few seconds, and then stops and cries to help.

So disappointed, app says my dual multi-surface rubber brushes have 235 hours of life left but machine keeps stopping and saying clean the brushes. IRobot is suggesting I need to buy a new pair for $44.99, refusing to send me a new set. Bad business. They need to get a pair.

Make sure you buy the extended warranty so you can return it every year because it breaks down. There is absolutely no help through the company that sells it I spent three months talking to them taking a screwdriver taking apart and putting it together. They finally gave up and I returned this last one I have paid $800 in return for extended warranties. They won’t give your money back so just expect to buy it be sure to get that extended warranty.Dirt on the floor, it’ll push it all together in a pile

The Evolution Of Clean

iRobot Roomba s9+
I’ve owned a couple of robot vacuums over the years and all of them possessed great features and did the best that they were capable of. A robot vacuum lessens the ‘to do list’ which is appreciated when you want to relish those moments of found time. Also, robot vacuums are fantastic when you just feel lazy. I feel as if I have seen the evolution of the robot vacuum. And with that evolution, I can say with the utmost certainty that the iRobot Roomba s9+ is the next level of automated cleaning.
The set up of the Roomba s9+ is SO EASY and is pretty much ready out of the box. Plug in the docking station, download the app, sync the Roomba to the Wi-Fi and it is ready to go.
The design of the s9+ seems streamlined in a way. This machine is just classy looking. The circular soft life that emanates around the waste lid is appealing as the light will change to signify if there is a problem (a sharp red light) or if it’s docking and charging (a comforting blue light). The s9+ keeps its surface pieces to a minimum. I had a robot vac that had an unremovable housing unit over the sensor eye which made it impossible to determine if the issue was the sensor when the vacuum wouldn’t move forward. Having everything in the open on this Roomba is very welcoming.
But how does it perform? When the s9+ was done with its vacuuming tour and docked, I was amazed at how thorough it had performed right out of the box. Do you know those tracks that are created with standard, upright vacuums that we normally use? The s9+ had created them! I examined each room and it honestly appeared as if a person had just finished vacuuming with a manual upright. What’s better was that there wasn’t a single piece of small debris left. I mention this because I placed some cat kibble in a couple of places where my previous robot vacuum failed to pick up. The suction sound of the s9+ isn’t overly loud like you’d hear from an upright vacuum but at the same time, it definitely lets you know that it’s working hard to clean your floors.
Normally, when a robot vacuum ventures out for the first time, I usually have to supervise it when it arrives at the threshold of a room where there’s a small set of steps. With my previous robot vac, I had to place a large object in the doorway so that the vac would sense the object, turn away and therefore not take a dive off the steps. The Roomba sensed that there was a sudden drop off with the step, got as close as it could before turning away and continuing on with its cleaning mission. There aren’t any sensor strips required to be placed, and you don’t have to suddenly remember that you have to shut a door or place an object to block the path of the Roomba. It’s smart enough to know better. The Roomba also easily maneuvers itself from a hard floor to carpet. It doesn’t struggle to adapt. Now, let’s say that there was more debris than normal for the Roomba to vacuum up, it will know that the debris basket is full, return to the docking station, empty itself, return to where it left off and resume cleaning. The self-emptying feature is REMARKABLE! You’ll wonder how you managed without it because we sometimes forget that the basket needs to be emptied. The s9+ will dock and then there’s this loud SWOOSH that lasts for a few short seconds where you will hear the debris being sucked out of the Roomba and being emptied into the debris bag that inside the docking station. The bag is reasonably sized and doesn’t require to be emptied each time your Roomba empties itself.
Speaking of smart, the Roomba obviously scans your home and gives you a readout via the app. What makes this really special is that you can program the Roomba not to go into certain rooms. I can see this being a handy option for those with children or don’t want the vacuum to disturb said room. Knowing that this is a feature is welcoming.
What also sets this Roomba apart from other robot vacs is that it’s not aggressive when it moves about the home. What I mean by this is that with my previous vacuum, it would sometimes slam itself into the baseboards or chairs before bouncing back, realizing that there was no moving forward. This kind of behavior resulted in scratches and dings on the vacuum. With the Roomba, this machine calmly moves about the rooms and when it discovers a chair or a blocked path, it backs away and turns to a different direction. No slamming. No damage to the vacuum.
The next feature of the Roomba s9+ got me really excited. The s9+ works with Google Home/Assistant. What this means is that after you have connected the Roomba to your Google Home device (this too, is easy), you can simply say, “Ok Google, start vacuuming” and the Roomba immediately starts up in the other room and it embarks on the command. You can also command Google to dock the Roomba or if the vac goes ‘missing’ because it got stuck, you can ask Google to locate the Roomba to which you’ll be told which room it’s located in. I have a couple of cats and I also have a Litter Robot (it’s a self-scooping litter box that connects to the Wi-Fi), the Roomba can connect to the Litter Robot so that each time the Litter Robot empties itself which sometimes results with some litter granules spilling out, the Roomba will activate and clean up that room area. Again, this is pretty amazing when you think about it. The designers over at Roomba really put a lot of thought into the s9+.
When the Roomba finally docks after its vacuuming session, it will let you know when it will run again and how much time there is left before the vacuum is fully charged.
I honestly cannot think of anything adverse to say about the iRobot Roomba s9+. It is well designed and it is dedicated to cleaning.
Life is busy. Coming home shouldn’t have to be more work. The s9+ will lighten the load.
