Let’s Roomba!

My initial impression is ... wow! Wow, wow, wow!
Now that I’ve said that, let me state unequivocally that this iRobot Roomba S-series Robot Vacuum is an impressive machine. It really is.
Unboxing was an adventure, a good one. Everything was packaged perfectly. Just be aware, the charging station is heavy. The robot itself is a nice size, and looks amazing! I almost expected the thing to talk to me. Actually, it did, to tell me the Roomba had completed its cleaning cycle. Surprised the heck outta me! Thanks, R2!
Before anything else, it’s a good idea to review all the safety information in the Owner’s Guide. The warnings, cautions, and notices are important. Diagrams explain what all the parts of your Roomba are. Besides the ‘how to use your vacuum’ section, there are extensive and detailed instructions (again, with accompanying diagrams) to guide you through the proper care and maintenance of your Roomba.
Use of the iRobot Home app is a must, as it’s how you activate the device, as well as, control it. The app is, in a word, great! Everything you could want, or need, for understanding how to use and maintain your vacuum, is presented there in an organized, conveniently accessible resource. After completing setting up your Roomba, you’ll want to do the software update through the app, while the vacuum finishes charging.
After the first few uses, in which the vacuum learns the layout of your home’s rooms, activating the Smart Maps setting will allow you to decide which areas of the house the Roomba will focus on, and which ones it will “ignore.” This is a very cool feature. And by setting up a cleaning schedule, the Roomba will know when to get to work.
Something I really appreciated was how the Roomba’s low profile allowed it to smoothly glide beneath my furniture and underneath my kitchen cupboards (reaching all those hard-to-get-at places), without rubbing up against them at all.
I will say that the Roomba was louder than I would have liked, at least while on the ‘Detailed Clean’ setting. Although I got used to the sound, I preferred the ‘Quiet Clean’ option, even though on this setting, it seemed to take longer to clean my floors, which made sense as the vacuum was using less power. There is also a ‘Custom Clean’ option where you can adjust the level of cleaning power, and how many times the vacuum will pass over an area. In comparing this robotic vacuum to one I’ve previously owned from a different company, the Roomba cleaned my entire tiled flooring in literally half the time, and did an amazingly better job of it too.
I’m really glad to not have to empty a dust bin. The charging station, which houses the vacuum bag, is a terrific addition to the iRobot Roomba series. When my new vacuum returned to the station, after having finished its first cleaning round, and I heard the collected debris being sucked up into the canister unit, it was such a satisfying sound. It’s also helpful that the app itself will let you know when the bag needs to be changed. So cool!
By pressing the virtual ‘Clean’ circle button in the app, you can wake up your Roomba to send it on its way, then tap it again to pause. The app will also tell you how long it will stay paused before resuming cleaning, or you have the option to end the cleaning cycle. You can tap the ‘Empty Bin’ virtual button to cause the robotic vacuum to return to its home base, and empty the dust bin into the charging station’s canister bag. If the Roomba returns itself to the charging station to recharge, the app will tell you how long it will take before the vacuum is ready to continue on with its cleaning task.
There are numerous other features worth exploring in the app, including iRobot BETA, which enables you to take part in any available BETA programs having to do with your Roomba. The iRobot Store lets you order replacement parts and accessories, straight from the app itself. You can even connect your Roomba to your Smart Home, with services such as Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. And you can review your Roomba’s cleaning History, seeing when and how many square feet of an area was cleaned. Under the ‘More’ tab, you will find a ‘Locate Roomba’ virtual button, which you can tap to learn exactly where your iRobot is in your house at that moment.
Other helpful features found in the app under the ‘More’ tab, include: Care & Maintenance - with step by step guides; Help Menu - with common questions and answers, Welcome / Roomba Overview / Maintaining Roomba videos, contact info, Warranty, Quick Start and Owner’s Guide; and your iRobot Roomba Settings.
The only hesitation I have in recommending this handy household appliance is, the cost. Although well worth the expense for such a high-quality device, which should provide many years of stellar service with proper maintenance and care, it is rather expensive. You are paying for not only the convenience, but also, the innovative technology this iRobot Roomba vacuum represents. Still, if you can afford it and are very much a fan of new tech, and most especially have the lifestyle a device such as this would benefit from, then this might just be the vacuum for you.

I am not sure on the longevity of this particular Roomba. In comparison to my Roomba 960, this is a dream machine. I am so happy with it so far. I love the self emptying bin. You do need to adjust the bin full setting or you will get it the message all the time, dust over sensor. It absolutely cleans closer to the walls, the carpet. I can schedule the sections I want when I want, adjust suction power. away zones, cords lol. Our lab sheds and emptying the bin everyday and constantly having to clean the machine of dog hair was exhausting. Yes it can get noisy, just depends on your setting, and type of floor. Emptying the bin is very loud but it isnt for long. It is no different then running a normal vacuum.

Gets all the pet hair. App and mapping are easy to use. Works well with Google. I love that i don't have to empty the bin every time. It's louder than other robot vacuums I've owned. No issues going from hardwood to carpet. It got stuck in one location until i made a "keep out" zone. No issues after that.

It’s definitely louder than the other roomba’s but the suction power is great. It gets everything in one swoop. The best part is not having to empty the bin in the middle of a clean. I can leave the house and have it run

This roomba is a huge leap compared to a few generations ago. It’s loud as heck but does a great job cleaning the house and I was able to tell it to avoid some areas that can trip it up. Only issue is it still tries to eat the carpet

After two years with the Samsung Powerbot 9350 we were ready for an upgrade. We chose the s9+ after some research and liked the features it has that the 9350 lacked. The s9+ can empty itself, has a hepa filter, and allows easier room segregation using the apps mapping. The onely thing I have to say about the s9+ that is negative is that it is loud compared to the Powerbot. It cleans well and it does not get stuck in the same places out 9350 Powerbot struggled with but it is loud. Our house is entirely hard floors and it cleans as good as the 9350 or maybe a bit better and I will say it appears that it cleans a little faster than our old Samsung robot did. If Samsung made a robot similar to this one I would have bought it for its easy integration into SmartThings but they don't so here I am.

How to replace an older version of iRobot, and I had for many years. Stunning performance on the new version to include great vacuuming of my dogs hair on carpets, and then smart mapping of all rooms to allow me to not have to move things. This variant has the ability to become smarter with each time used. Selective room mapping and selective vacuuming of each is a timesaver. Also, this has a great version of clearing itself when parked by high suction in the dock to a bag that holds at least six complete jobs of vacuuming. Highly recommend this after a using it every other day for a month. The key to success to this is to go online and download the user manual and read it.

Smart & Sleek Approach For a Cool iRobot

Not a newbie to the iRobot family but I have to say I am sold on what iRobot is capable of. My previous experience was with a robot that didn't pack a punch like the s9+!
Unlike my previous less powerful model this one does wonders. As we speak I am in awe of how it can recognize different floor types. I've got tile, and area rugs (layered for style) and the motor revs up to attack the areas that require more attention.
Of course I love the dirt bin that empties itself but that is an extra bell and whistle. I really wanted to have one robot for the upstairs and one for the more trafficked area downstairs.
The feature of mapping out the home is amazing. I can tell the robot to focus on one area and not waste battery. Which brings me to quiet mode, where I plan on setting up early morning clean ups so that I wake up to a tidy living area. My dog has no qualms with robots and he's a Frenchie who attacks handheld vacuums so he just lays around and lets it do it's just until it wants to bump him and then he moves.
A good sidenote for anyone looking for a robot make sure to know that robots are great companions for upkeep but don't expect not to have to hand vacuum. I am sure one day robots will get there and this one is well on it's way but these guys are for complimenting your daily struggle like me and maintaining the house's floors.
The large advantages for me were the smart app, the dirt bin that empties itself over and over again, the battery life, the quiet mode and finally the motor. You can literally hear it rev up when it's focused on working on an area. Love my iRobot s9+!

The Fur-rari of robot vacuums

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.
I'm going to start out with the one thing that disappointed me about this iRobot: the clean base requires bags. Yes, it's very convenient to just toss the bag out when it's full, but they're expensive and they have a hard plastic frame. It would have been a bit better if it had a heavy cardboard frame that was more friendly to the environment. The documentation says the bag will hold 30 bins from the vacuum, so we'll see how fast we go through bags.
Having got that out of the way, I *love* everything else about this system. We have more than 6 indoor cats so we're constantly cleaning. Until I got the iRobot, I was using two other brand of robot vacuums to divide up and clean our downstairs every day. Every night when I got home from work, the ritual was to empty out each vacuum so it'd be ready to run the next day. It kept things clean, but it was definitely more work than this iRobot. Now, I've got it scheduled to run every other day and I only have to glance at the LED on the clean base to see if the bag is full yet. Super easy.
It did take a few days for it to map out and learn our rooms, but once it got that done it works like a champ. I used the "training run" mode a couple of times to speed up the process, too. Its smart map function figured out the room dividers and then I was able to label each room. Now, if needed, I can tell it to clean a particular room in between the scheduled cleanings. (See the attached screen shot from the app.)
Another feature of the vacuum that I think is genius is the soft rubber "brushes" instead of the usual real brushes that get hair tangled in them. These don't get debris stuck in them and I haven't had to clean them at all yet. The side brush does look like it'll wear down fairly quickly, but you can get spares of those.
There's no doubt this is an expensive system, but if you want the best robot vacuum system currently available this is it. Maybe like owning a Ferrari and worrying about buying gas for it, I shouldn't worry about the cost of the disposable bags.

The Best Smart Vacuum I've Ever Owned...Period!

So over the last few years I've been let down by smart vacuums because my experience with other brands has been lackluster. I've tried a Samsung, a Neato and have not come away impressed. The Samsung didn't have any room mapping and broke down after 6 months and the Neato while it did have room mapping missed alot of dust, debris, and hair on the floor and its navigation around the room left alot to be desired.
Enter the IRobot Roomba S9550 and it's a whole different ballgame. This thing is a BEAST! It does the job a way a smart vacuum is intended to operate in my opinion. The Roomba is actually "smart" and does an amazing job learning the environment without getting stuck or crashing into things. My dogs will walk by it and stop for a second and it'll rescan and keep going. It does an incredible job of picking up crumbs and dog hair off the floor and especially circling around things and picking up dust that normally my regular vacuum couldn't reach. It has a side brush as well that was flicking stuff out from under my baseboards it worked so well. The Roomba is also very agile. The neato never made it under any of my chairs and the Roomba handles them effortlessly. The roomba will also vacuum over a room and then go back and hit the edges with the side brush to make sure its gotten all the dust in the cracks. I also especially love the Canister that it empties into. These vacuums can get quite full rather quickly so not having to worry about emptying it everyday is a nice touch. Also the app is very intuitive and I like that it will tell me when my brushes need to be serviced or the canister needs to be emptied. You can also tell the Roomba to only clean certain rooms.
All in all this vacuum is 100% worth the price of admission in my opinion. It does a fantastic job of picking up any and all pet hair and really does a good job of learning and understanding your rooms more so than any other brand I've ever used. I would highly recommend this vacuum to anyone, its the real deal!

We have a 2400 square foot home. This thing will work all day and will get almost every inch clean. Once it fills itself up with dirt it automatically returns to its base and unloads and then goes back to the spot it left off. There's been a few minor glitches where it get stuck under the couch. It thinks under the couch really needs cleaning or it likes it under there. It will eventually map out your home so you can turn it loose on certain areas like the kitchen and other high traffic areas without it cleaning the whole house each time. Overall its been a wonderful addition to our home. Its pricey but so far its been worth it.

The iRobot Roomba s9+, A Great Device

The first question you might ask is "do I need the Roomba s9+"? In a word, no. You don't need it, but if you are reading this review, you must want one. The next question, will it replace my current vacuum cleaner? I would not throw your current device in the trash just yet. The Roomba s9 does an impressive job, at least for me. My household is an exception. I live alone in a 1500 sq foot single story home. There are not any pets or children running around. As a single person living alone, my house does not get very dirty. I hate to clean, so I decided to give the Roomba s9+ a try. So far, I'm pretty happy. The phone app was very simple to set up. I did have an issue sending the purchase date for warranty coverage to the company, but Roomba Customer Service helped me out. Once you have the app all set up, the next step is to have the device scan your house. In my case it took two separate scans to complete the mapping of the house. Each scan took about 2.5 hours. Once completed, I was very surprised how accurately the map depicted my home. Once the map has been created, you can then make adjustments and name the rooms. Once you have done that, set the little animal free to do your house. To be honest, I find it entertaining to watch it go about it's business. The device is very low profile, so it effortless travels under furniture, where an upright or canister vacuums can not reach. Unlike some robot vacs, the s9+ empties its dirt in its home base. Under most circumstances, you never have to deal with dirt until the bag is full in the home base. I have had to perform two rescue attempts since owning the Roomba. I have a table with low profile curved legs. The Roomba wants to climb up the legs and can't get down. Other than the leg incidents, the critter can get out of any spot it puts itself into. As I've stated, very entertaining to watch it. During its work, the sound level is less than a normal vacuum. My home has a combination of carpet and tile floors. It takes almost 3 hours for the Roomba to complete its cleaning job. It also has to make two trips to its home for charging. Each charge takes about an hour. A total of about 5 hours to clean my 1500 sq foot house. I'm ok with that, but some owners may not be. In conclusion, I find the Roomba s9+ to be a great home companion. My only complaint is its high price. Is it worth it? It does seem to be quality constructed and it does its work as advertised, yet the price of entry seem a little high. That is the reason I gave it four stars. I hope if you decide to take the robot vacuum plunge with the Roomba s9+ you will be as impressed as I. Just a little lighter in the wallet

Recently purchased the S9 and overall I’m very impressed on how well this thing works. Picks up dog hair like a champ. It is a little loud but I have it scheduled to run when I’m at work. Setup and mapping is very easy. I haven’t had any issues with connection as some mentioned in their reviews. It’s an expensive investment but absolutely worth it for me!

After mapping has been completed the work begins! I'm very pleased with the suction and really like the 3 suction power levels. I have owed a roomba for 9 years and it was used every day. Time for a new one. My only somewhat concern is that it doesn't transition from hardwood to a small rug well. Large area rugs no problems, only the small.
I love the feature of having the dirt emptied into a bag.

The S9+ is not up to par with the j7+

I am not impressed with the s9+; I also have the j7+ and one of the original Roomba units from years ago (one for each floor).
Compared to the j7+ the s9+ is not worth the higher price tag.
The s9+ is slow, it can't do the second floor of the house on a single charge and overall it just seems to struggle. Save your money and get the s7+ instead of the s9+.
Yes the s9+ has more suction power than the s7+ if you put it in turbo mode but it takes forever to clean; it took 2 hours and 49 minutes to clean two bedrooms, a jack n' jill bathroom and a hallway.
I purchased the s9+ because I thought it would do a better job on the second floor of my house because it is basically all carpet.
This was a mistake, the object recognition of s9+ is inferior to the j7+ and for lack of better use of words the s9+ is "dumb" compared the j7+.
What I will probably end up doing is moving the s9+ to the finished basement which is smaller and simpler to map and just buy another j7+ for the second floor.
Expensive lessen learned.

Easy setup and installation- has a download app to help. Maps house so you can assign areas or not. Schedule and control using the app for easy operation on the go. Squared, flat design allows it to get corners and hard to get places. With 4 dogs and hard wood floors, it gets floor cleaner and maintains. It is quieter than a regular vacuum cleaner. It will easily go over room divider floor trim. I have had it get stuck a time or two, but easily fixed. Highly recommend product.

Hello Rosie

Yes, I named my IRobot New Robot Vacuum with Automatic Dirt Disposal Rosie. Why not, I feel like I'm in the JETSON'S age now. This was the next logical piece to my smart home, and if you have a busy schedule, so will you.
The set up took a try or too with the app but was otherwise nice and simple. The physical setup took about 2 minutes. Super simple.
Say goodbye to the "Hockey Puck" and hello to a stylish sophisticated device that doesn't distract from a rooms look.
After a few minutes setup time it was time for Rosie to get to work, and boy did she. The IRobot New Robot Vacuum with Automatic Dirt Disposal handled going from hard surfaces to mats and carpets easily. She adjusts power automatically and through the app mapped my downstairs living area nicely.
One of the best selling points for me was that Rosie didn't scare my pups the way any vacuum does. The only time the unit was what I'd call noisy was when she dumps the collected dirt.
My final trial was setting up Rosie to go to work when I went out to bowl a few games. When I got home I found the IRobot New Robot Vacuum with Automatic Dirt Disposal parked, my floors clean, the dogs on the sofa and the dirt dumped.
Perfect for busy people, who appreciate good tech.
Cheers!!
