Good Cleaning With Awkward Frustrating Design

My home has a combination of floor surfaces including hardwood, tile, carpeting, and area rugs which often times require different vacuuming solutions. Ideally there would be one vacuum which would meet all these needs but instead I have 3 different vacuums due to their individual degrees of features and portability. The Shark APEX UpLight Lift-Away DuoClean intrigued me as a potential all around vacuuming candidate.
Unboxing revealed several separate boxes containing vacuum parts and attachments. Putting these various pieces together was very intuitive with components snapping together very simply. Included are 3 attachments and a an attachment caddy which attaches to the vacuum. Oddly the caddy only holds two of the attachments. Weird. You’ll also find a quick start guide and an instruction manual. I was pleased to see that the cord on APEX UpLight Lift-Away is a generous 30 foot cord. This should prevent having to constantly move to a different outlet while vacuuming.
I was eager to try the Shark throughout my house to see how it measured up. I quickly liked the onboard led headlight which sure came in handy vacuuming under tables and chairs. I was also pleased that the Apex Uplight was fairly quiet but still seemed to have adequate suction. I initially just used it in regular upright mode on tile, hardwood, and area rugs. I was pleased with its overall functionality. I particularly liked the size of the base which made it easy to slide in and under furniture. I quickly noted the superior cleaning ability of the Shark DuoClean rollers which include a brush roller and a soft roller combination. I could see the soft roller very effectively pick up dust from my floor which my other vacuums left behind. As I next moved onto vacuuming stairs I disconnected the vacuum from its base to use it in a portable canister mode. Shark calls this canister section of the vacuum the Lift-Away Pod. Here you’ll find the dust cap which holds about .68 quarts of debris. Seemed adequate to me.
As I continued using the vacuum on various surfaces throughout my house in both upright vacuum and lift away modes I did find the Shark APEX UpLight to have good suction and flexibility. What surprised me however was that the overall experience of using this Shark was incredibly awkward and frustrating particularly so in lift away mode. This vacuum seemed oddly unintuitive even down to how and where you’re supposed to hold it while vacuuming. There’s not even a defined handle on the vacuuming wand. Even the weight and balance of the components seemed uncomfortable while trying to effectively maneuver the vacuum. I literally found myself struggling with the Apex.
Ultimately I was conflicted about the APEX UpLight. While it certainly cleans various floor adequately it wasn’t very pleasant to use. Bad design.
