Bought for replacement laptop and middle schooler

Nice computer to eventually replace the family one currently in use. To issues out of the box, though, was the loud cooling fan that kicked in for apps with more processing needs, and support for the included Active Pen. 1) The fan running was extremely loud when it got going. Some research revealed that this was a pretty common problem with this model. The fix is to manage the power settings, and while this significantly improved the noise problem, not sure how this will affect long-term performance if settings are kept this way. 2) The included Active Pen doesn't have that much in terms of instructions or support. There are no indicator lights to tell you if it's on, and there are no setup instructions, probably because it works as soon as it's out of the box and assembled. However, the sensitivity needs to be calibrated with the laptop, and nowhere are those steps found; not in the literature or support apps. Online, there's support for Surface pens or other Active Pen models. I had to stumble onto the pen sensitivity settings (which is different from pen settings) to figure it out.

Loved the screen and specs for price paid. Booted up quickly. Can not speak to the included stylus pen because never used it. Unfortunately for our needs, it was just too heavy so I returned it. Currently waiting for 13in version to go on sale since again, did love everything about it EXCEPT for size. If you’re in the market for a 15inch I would highly recommend.

My favorite thing about this laptop is the built in pen holder. That is a slick feature and I can see it as a big plus for those who use the pen often. Another observation is that it looks very "business class". Like they tried their hardest to make look as boring as possible. The negative I have and the reason I could not give this five stars is due to the fan. Yes, an i7 and video card will generate heat, fine. But no, seems they put no effort into a good cooling design. And, to add insult, my fan kept turning on and off when in sleep mode, like I heard it spinning on and off all day and all night. In the end I returned it and opted for a more expensive HP Spectre x360 with similar specs but has giant cooling vents on the sides and won't make a peep during light use, and it looked way better ;-)

Open box = great price! This computer does everything I need and looks great while doing it!! I mainly use it for email, web surfing and watching Netflix! The screen is sharp and bright while watching movies, and I haven’t experienced any lag! I do not play games so can’t speak to the game graphics!

The hybrid optane qlc ssd is okay, but with a samsung ssd this thing is just flawless. Battery life is what it is, all depends on power saving features. This 15" model compared to the smaller 13" has a MX250 gpu which makes most graphical intensive apps run much more fluid. Powerful enough for some games like some Halo: MCC @ 1080p60. New WiFi 6 (802.11 ax) seems great (I'm still set with WiFi 5 or whatever you want to call it now.) Have yet to drop it, build quality looks like it to take a light beating. Do not think it would survive chunking it across the office... Touch pad is meh, wears really quick in my opinion.

I LOVE this laptop! It is feature packed! It is fast! The screen resolution is fantastic! The slot for the pen is laptop design and out of the box thinking at its best! Thank you Dell for making it and thank you BestBuy for having it as part of your product line up!

The Bad: Fingerprint sign-in works most of the time, Sound quality is not good, It can get loud but very distorted with No Bass!!!. The battery is drains faster than expected. The Good! Price, $300 off, I could not pass up this deal and I’m so glad I didn’t. I am coming from a MacBook and wow am I impressed. 4K touchscreen looks excellent! It’s kind of heavy but I don’t mind because of the top notch build quality! Pen is a nice addition and works great! After removing a little bloatware I was surprised to find out how great the rest of Dell’s built in software applications are. Having my iOS notifications appear on my laptop and the ability to screen mirror solidified this was the right choice for me. Haven’t tried heavy gaming but it runs Steams Streets or Rage 4 and Rocket League, default settings without any issues. Overall I’m very pleased with this purchase and you will be too!

Pros: good/excellent all metal build quality keyboard feel is very good screen sharpness excellent silent + cool true 8 bit panel with no FRC no PWM Ram is not soldered to MB 2 x m.2 slots (one is occupied by optane) cons: battery life i7 is only 4 core 15w tdp version HORRIBLE glare on shiny screen (i put a matte screen protector which helped a lot) ssd slot blocked by battery

So far I dont have any problems with this laptop, I am actually enjoying the fact that I can control it also on the touch screen and using the pen whenever I get bored using the mouse. I use the laptop for regular browsing on the internet, for documents, just the basic stuff because I am not a gamer nor a video editor but this laptop can also be use as such if I decided to. Lightweight and slim. Speakers are under but using laptop stand makes it elevated so it does not make an issue on me. This is the best laptop I had so far.

    Not Perfect - Serviceable Power

I purchased this laptop for using as my primary traveling computer for my business. I wanted a light and powerful unit, with a decent battery, and was interested in using the tablet and pen/stylus for meetings. It's been a great addition, but it has had a few issues. My biggest complaint is with the scaling of the 4K monitor when using different applications. The scaling is so bad you cannot read a lot of dialogs and text on screen. Even booting up, you cannot read the tiny text at the top left corner of the screen. On some applications, you are unable to select any options, even if you could read them. Dell offers the Windows work around, and so you can designate a larger dot pitch to compensate.... but this doesn't fix everything. It also adds ribbon and menu height issues, eating up valuable screen area. The Gorilla Glass screen is rugged and bright, but too reflective. And it smudges too easily. Since it is a touch screen, it is going to get smudges. The thunderbolt port is awesome, but the limited number of USB 3 ports, and total lack of them on the left hand side, is a problem in today's world. No ethernet port is also a problem. So if you look at this unit, a docking station is mandatory. As for the remaining hardware, the core i7 is 10th generation, the video card is more than adequate for anything except maybe the highest level games or CAD programs. (I run SketchUp without issue.) Since it was purchased from Best Buy and NOT Dell, good luck getting much help from Dell. They want to sell you a longer warranty and that's about it. If I were doing this over, I probably would just go straight to Dell and get a specific built unit. But I couldn't wait for one to be built, and this unit has done the job despite the minor drawbacks.

I started working remotely doing telehealth. I needed to make sure that I had a super fast laptop that would easily pair with an external monitor and support a variety of online video platforms This laptop has far exceeded my expectations. Every time that I thought the computer was acting up, it was my own fault. The camera won't work on two sites at the same time, duh! I am running Splashtop to access my work computer as well as having numerous other programs going at the same time. This laptop loads immediately. I have always been an IBM/Lenovo fan, but I will never go back. I'm sure that if I were a gamer, this laptop would please me to no end.

I purchased this as an open box product and it has worked out well. When I purchased it, the pen was missing but it wasn’t a big deal. My daughter was still able to use it and has been able to manage all of her school work without any problems. The touch screen is a plus and the processor is fast. The screen is a great size as well. No problems with storage. The only thing so far that we don’t like is how the touchpad absorbs fingerprints.

Good specs at fair price, the fun stops there

I purchased the unit for light work tasks and multimedia consumption as I spend months on the road for work. The device has fairly good specs for the price and seemed to be advertised directly at my needs. Out of the box the build quality matched my expectations. The unit feels sturdy with some heft, as it should being that it is a full sized laptop. Initial setup went flawlessly and easily. The good- Screen was as I expected. Good quality and brightness for the price point. I admittedly do not have the most discerning eye but it was a noticeable upgrade from my last device. The hinge is stiff enough to avoid minor shakes and rattles while typing and traveling and feels strong when changing to "tablet" mode. The pen storage is clever, one of the best designs I've seen so far. It is stored safely and securely. Internal stylus storage on other devices is nice but it normally shrinks the size of the stylus. This units solution allows for a stylus that feels a little more natural in the hand. Port selection is plentiful for my needs and prevents me from having to carry an assortment of dongles. The Bad- The speakers leave a lot to be desired. For a full sized laptop, aimed towards multimedia, the sound quality is just not there. I was not expecting mind-blowing surround sound effects from my laptop. I was hoping I could watch movies in my hotel room with audio clear enough to hear vocals and avoid my headphones. My 14 inch, 5 year old Lenovo somehow seems to outshine this unit in clarity. Listening to the speakers basically requires a silent room and very close proximity to the device. This was one area I though would definitely be an upgrade from my old device. Watching movies while in a hotel room with A/C running basically means I have to have my headphones in for most videos. Small gripe but still relevant. I despise having to use the function key to raise and lower volume and brightness. Two frequently toggled items. Just a pain. The Ugly- At two 2.5 months of generally light use my unit seems to be having some issues I deem serious. When lid is closed or the device has timed out, while it should be going in to a sleep mode that it can quickly wake up from, it seems to be having issues. During the next use, if I can get it to "wake up" easily, about 60 % of the time I get a message saying the system did not shut down properly. This leads to longer load times and anything left open during the previous session erased. It seems to be improperly initiating a shutdown on its own. If It will not wake up by tapping any button or quickly depressing the power button, I have to do a 20-30 second hold down on the power button as kind of a "hard" restart. I have tried updating all OS programs and drivers to current versions with no luck. I also saved my important docs and did a "system reset" to no avail. My two USB ports are no longer working. I have tried multiple items and cords but the ports read nothing. I updated drivers, uninstalled and reinstalled them along with the system reset I performed. It is looking like a potential hardware issue but admittedly, I am no computer wiz. Looks like I will have to mail this unit to Dell when I get home to try to solve the above issues. I am hoping that the customer service from Dell is decent. Maybe this unit is a lemon but at 2.5 months in, the issues are already stacking up so I could not recommend this product.

I really like this product. Overall it is fast, screen is good. Love that it turns into a kind of tablet. I like the stylus that came with it, and it is great that it has a spot to store it so don’t need to worry about losing it. Only downside is that it is pretty big and heavy compared to my previous laptop, and it would barely fit my backpack (which is small indeed). I guess it is a great product if the intention is not to carry it around all the time or if people don’t mind the weight.
