    A Bit of a Disappointment

Overall, the M238 is very good multi-use device. However, there are some issues that prevent it from being great. PROs: * Set up is very easy. Just follow the onscreen instructions, and it’s ready in minutes. * The primary paper dispenser (designated #2) is easy to access and offers a variety of paper size options. * Printing a document is quiet and very fast, be it color or b&w, including two-sided printing. * Scan function is also quiet, fast, and produces good quality reproduction. * Touchscreen control panel is large enough for easy reading. * The operational software HPSmart is easy to use. * Unless you are a high demand user, the toner cartridges should last quite a while. That’s a good thing, because replacements are expensive. CONs: *There is second paper dispenser (designated#1), and you must look for it, because there is no diagram of functional areas. The numbers embossed on the printer front give a clue that there should be another dispenser. When it’s found, DO NOT try to remove it for loading it, as it is designed for hand feeding individual sheets. Again, there is no documentation regarding its functionality; so, being used to multi-sheet loading, I removed. By removing it, I learned the composition is very thin plastic and is a chore to get reinserted. I was afraid it would break before I got it back. So, you can insert single paper sheets or single photo sheets, which is not ok if you need to print more than one or two items. * While the M238 duplex prints, it does NOT duplex scan. So, using the document feeder for scanning two-sided documents requires manual input, essentially doubling scanning time. If you have a large multipage document, you cannot load and go. You must turn over the document, and then send it back through. That can be tedious, even more so than the single sheet printer feed. * Photo printing is awful. Colors are washed out, even on high gloss paper, and the printed picture looks like a photo from many years ago that was exposed to light. Also, when a picture is printed, it exits into an area inside the printer. To retrieve it, you must lean over if sitting in a chair or standing, stick your hand inside an open area recessed in the printer, and then pull out the picture. That wouldn’t be so bad if you received a proper print. * For the cost of the printer, one would expect it would not lack any functionality and that ALL work product would be excellent. BOTTOM LINE: If you don’t care about quality photo printing, this is an excellent printer. If you don’t mind manually scanning two-sided documents, this is an excellent scanner. However, without those caveats being disclosed, I would not recommend it to a friend.

AS far as the printer goes itself, it is solid. Does the job well, imaging was right on, and apparently the ink is supposed to stretch across 1300-1400 sheets, so we''ll if that's true, but I have likely already printed at least 75 sheets and the quality is great. There is also a touch screen that is small but easily functional. I haven't had to use it much though as the device is like a smart device and detects what you are trying to do and adjusts. I must also mention, the setup was probably the easiest out of the box setup I have ever done for a printer. No disk drives, no cords, it was WONDERFUL -- just plugged it in and found my Wifi network in seconds. I was able to print directly from my Mac and as well as my Android phone without installing any drivers or software, again, a major plus. The toner and ink cartridges all came pre-installed so it was just a plug and print type deal. Apparently the toner is supposed to last 12-18 months and I hope this is correct because MAN the toner is expensive! Be ready to spend a minimum $70 for replacement toner...and that is the only con I would bring up. Nonetheless, it is a significant step up from the more basic printers out there so you get what you pay for. Either way, I am surely keeping this one for my business at home!

Very good printer works very well for me. The printer is the best home use printer I have ever owned. It has excellent print quality, especially for photos, thanks to its four color ink system. It offers convenient features like wireless connectivity, mobile printing options, and a user-friendly interface. Additionally, it’s relatively compact, making it suitable for home or small office use where space may be limited.

Reliable quality printing when you need it!

I needed a new printer to replace my OfficeJet Pro 8600 series inkjet. For me the most important thing is reliable printing when I need it. I was getting very poor results with the inkjet cartridges that would dry out. I also wanted the printer to be always ready to print. HP also had good reviews on reliable wifi connections. So despite the Cannon printers being on sale I decided on the HP and I am glad I did. Setup was straight forward(I just followed instructions carefully) and was up and running in about 20-30 minutes after I opened the box and connected my laptop and iPhone and printed a test document from each. The printer was actually a little smaller than my old inkjet. I also liked the clean lines. It is quite heavy and most laser printers are somewhat heavy. This is fine with me as I do not plan on moving it around. It only comes with one paper tray and that is fine with me. You cannot add a second tray. Printing is much faster than my old inkjet. However this printer is louder when printing. Not an issue for me. I find text documents to look great and are crisp and easy to read. I printed a few color pictures and the quality was very good. However this printer is not designed as a photo printer. In my case I send out my photos or go to CVS(local store)for photo printing anyway. A home printer simply cannot match the quality you get from commercially printed photos anyway. For business graphics or charts etc., this printer does a fantastic job. Colors are bright, vivid, and sharp. Copy and scan functions work fine and are easy do. This printer does not do duplex scanning/copy so you have to flip the paper. I do not have a phone line for faxing so any faxing I do by scanning and sending/receiving through my laptop. I had also considered the Cannon but reviews indicated the WiFi was unreliable and setup was difficult. My guess is output is probably similar. This printer is living up to my expectations and I am very happy with it. One more thing.... I bought this laser because I do not print documents daily. The promotional literature often says lasers are for volume users. That is true but if you are concerned about ink drying out you are still better off with a laser even if you do not print a lot of material.

Honestly This thing is everything I could ask for. It's big but not so big for a small office setting. It took about 20 min to set up to the computer and wireless devices, Im a little tech savy so it wasnt hard to set up. The wireless printing function is a plus for printing from a phone or laptop, even though I do most of my work from the desktop that it connected with a cable. The speed for scanning/coping from the feeder was faster than expected. The color printing quality is better than expected as well, I dont do much color printing for myself, but its great for the kids school projects when needed. The only two things I could complain about is that I wish the display screen would be a little bigger so you can see the job functions/options better and that the paper tray would hold more paper. But other than that its a great buy for the value!!!

The setup was extremely easy! The printer already had the ink installed and it was only a matter of connecting the ethernet cable and adding a network printer. The setting and options are almost overwhelming but it gets narrowed as you pick a connection and configuration. The print quality is very crisp and clear as is the scanning quality. Oddly enough the feature that blew me away was the copy function! I made a copy of a color photo-quality image and the copier made a beautiful copy with minor issues. There was a very slight loss of color gradiation in a very few and very hard to spot areas. The color copy was very very good. I make copies pretty frequently and even tho i do not make copies of photos i do make color copies with various graphics on it and this all-in-one will not disappoint. The 2.7 inch screen is a breeze to operate and navigate. There are way more options than you will ever use. it also has a nice feature of allowing you to print using already installed templates such as graphs/notebook, calendars..etc. The other nifty feature is the adjustable slot on the front of the printer which allows for printing on envelopes or specialty sized paper one at a time. Truly a powerhouse all-in-one that has a small footprint considering the quality of the performance and the DUAL SIDED PRINTING!! That's right it has automatic dual sided printing, it prints extremely fast and on both sides. No more flipping paper and mixing up the orientation...a great printer A+. The only issue is the app for mobile printing does work but it does take some getting used to but the connection was smooth using direct wifi link. The printer also offer dual band printing, 2.4/5.0, i use the 5Ghz and sending wireless jobs is much faster than my old 2.4 connection, it spools large jobs very quickly. I ramble on but it is a very nice printer.

One of the standout features of the LaserJet Pro M283fdw is its wireless capability. The ease of connecting the printer to my Wi-Fi network and the convenience of printing directly from my devices, be it a laptop, smartphone, or tablet, cannot be overstated. Moreover, the HP Smart app adds another level of comfort by allowing for remote printer management and easy mobile printing. I just purchased and started using the printer. It does a wonderful job. It was easy to set up but I recommend verifying whether multiple drivers were installed. I followed the instructions and that installed the printer specific driver, and the computer (Windows based in a docking station) also installed a set of drivers for the printer series. I discovered after a bit that it started adding some additional pages of different syntax, etc. after each document I submitted for printing. I went through the connection services on the app and within a few minutes HP called me and in a very short time identified the cause as the 2 drivers. We got the generic printer series drivers the computer pulled removed and confirmed the printer specific drivers were present. It has been printing great ever since. Color printing is awesome, the scan feature is really easy to use and then save the document to the computer. Overall I am very pleased with this printer. I thought I should add that the printer is currently on sale at BestBuy. I paid full price a week ago, noticed the price drop and via the BestBuy App chat was able to communicate with an agent and within a few minutes BestBuy refunded the difference. That was super easy. They have been wonderful to work with as has HP.

This is a great! printer, copier, scanner and fax. Super easy to set up. You do need a landline cable to fax. Easier to use DropBox Fax. While the print cartridges are expensive in the long run it's a cheaper way to go than buying a cheap printer and then buying lots! of small batches of printers ink which doesn't print as well. The starter ink cartridges that come with it lasted us for a long while, but we don't print a lot every day. It's a Fast Printer and Scanner. The HP LaserJet wireless connection serves a 3,200 sq ft home and is used by multiple family members. One works from home. This is our second HP-LaserJet Pro M283 Wireless printer. The first one died after 5 years but I gave it a 5 star rating because it's relatively cheap and is an awesome printer. I have one of the original HP LaserJet printers that's going on 25 years. It only prints and is not wireless. I love! these printers.

Three and a half years into a 4-year extended contract on my last printer (HP mfp M478f), it had a spring break in the paper tray and quit working correctly. I took it to Best Buy for repair and they gave me this printer instead. It is the updated version of my former printer and works great. Of course, the toner cartridges are different, but I was able to sell the unopened one I had on hand on Ebay for more than 1/2 the costs. I was also able to purchase an extended warranty for this printer! It prints well and is easy to use as a copier and scanner. It has fax capabilities, but I have chosen to disconnect my hard-wire phone service. Biggest lesson: Printers have lots of moving parts that are subject to break. Buy the extended warranty!

    Great Multi-Function Color Laser Printer

This HP Color LaserJet Pro M283fdw is a very well built, feature rich printer as you have come to expect from HP. Unpacking and setup: This is a fairly heavy printer (just over 40lbs) and taking it out of the box is not that difficult if you follow the instructions. It can be done by one person, but may be easier if someone else was holding the box while you're pulling on the plastic bag to slide the whole unit out with the box laying on its side. The setup is quick and easy, you don't have to mess with the toner cartridges cause they're already installed. Downloading the full Software Suite (240MB) from HP's website took longer than expected, but it was probably some Internet congestion, etc. The Hardware initialization and Software install took about 5 minutes but may be faster on a newer PC. Once completed, and setup on the wired network, a print out came out automatically with the web printing email address and information on how to print from anywhere. Connectivity: This printer has it all. You can connect it directly via USB cable. You can wire it to your network via Gigabit Ethernet cable or you can set it up over dual-band Wi-Fi, either 2.4GHz or 5GHz which is great if you have many Wi-Fi devices on your network. There is also a front USB port. Printing Performance: I was impressed how quickly the printer wakes-up and is ready to print, almost instantly. I'm used to laser printers taking a while to warm-up before the first page comes out. It's rare that in such a home-office friendly package, it also prints double-sided (duplex), which is just as fast as printing single-sided with the added advantage of saving paper. On average I got about 20 pages per minute in mixed black and white, color and duplex modes. Print quality is crisp and color reproduction is quite accurate to the naked eye. HP Smart App for Android: I was really excited to very easily be able to print directly from my smart phone. Once you install the App it will prompt for additional HP Driver software which is also freely downloadable from the Play Store. The app gives you many options to print documents, photos, scan, copy, etc. I chose to print a photo from my local Gallery, though it gave me an option to print from Google Photos or Amazon Photos, if you have those Apps installed. Even though I did not use photo quality paper, the images and colors still came out really good, just not as shiny as it would be on photo paper. Scanning/Copying: Tested a simple document scan from my PC and again it was very intuitive, lots of options as to what file format to save the scan to PDF, JPG, and many other popular formats, or directly to email. Touchscreen LCD: There is a 2.7" tilt-able color LCD screen that is very intuitive and easy to navigate for settings and to manage the core functions of printing, scanning, copying or faxing. Overall this is an excellent printer, versatile and very well built. It is heavy and larger than your typical home inkjet printers of basic B&W laser printers, but that's to be expected for such a feature-rich workhorse. Make sure you check the dimensions before you buy one. It fits well in my home office furnished with matching Ikea furniture and custom built white PC tower :-)

This is a very solid laser printer! It does several things really well, and when it comes to the core functionality of printing, you will not be disappointed! Setup: Setup was very easy and straightforward. The quick start guide provided very clear instructions, and unpacking the product was easy. Just had to pull off some tape and plug it in. The toner was already installed and ready to go. Connecting to WiFi was super quick and easy, and installing on my computer was a breeze. Print Quality and Performance:

This review is based on less than a six month ownership: overall, satisfied with the ease of use, ease of set up, and quality of print. Easily connected to a windows based pc and all my mac iOS devices. Time of print is fast, but have not exceeded ten prints at one time. It’s not quiet, but not exceedingly loud, either. Physical size is about the same as an inkjet, so I find no issue with the physical characteristics. Cannot give five stars due the length of ownership, but happy with printer.

Great printer the quality of the print is great. The scab feature is easy to navigate. I used it to scan and email to my CPA paperwork needed to complete my taxes . The touch screen panel had easy to follow prompts. When the printer arrived shipped to my doorsteps it too about 10 minutes to set everything up. Many of the instructions were built in so it made for a seedless set up. The size was small and compact. No printer noise love it
