THIS MACHINE IS A BEAST (a quiet and cool beast)

This machine is honestly amazing. Super quiet and never gets hot. Its also very fast. I'm not a gamer, BUT I'm a 3D Modeler, Photo / Video editor AND Musician that needs the power of a desktop and this laptop holds up. I haven't bought a laptop in some time because I've had a desktop that I loved. I wanted to be more mobile and this led me here.
The keyboard setup is something that more laptops should have. Its like my desktop keyboard minus the number pad. It also lights up and you can customize the lights via the OMEN Gaming Hub. I honestly thought the lit keyboard was a little stupid, but now i love it because it's an easy reminder of keyboard zones. One downside is that the Delete Key is in a weird spot and they put a Pause button in it's usual place which is of no use to me. But I've already gotten used to it so whatever. I also wish I had a number pad because I use that a lot for work but I know it never comes on laptops this size, so I'll grab an external.
The OMEN Gaming Hub is something that I didn't think I would need as I'm not a gamer. But it's become very useful in that I can easily get to my computer specs, check my system vitals and adjust the performance levels. If I'm just browsing the internet with no heavy tasks, I can switch it to extend battery life and give my CPU and GPU a break. But if I need it to perform at it's max ability, I can do that with a switch. This is something I didn't even know was possible and it's proven to be very useful.
One slight downside is the screen FEELS a little flimsy, I can twist it slightly. But it hasn't gotten in the way of my productivity and I'm into having the laptop be slightly lighter over a stiffer screen. I will say, that the screen has great quality and looks great at 1080p.
Seriously, THIS THING IS A BEAST. Best purchase I've made in years. It's so great that I even decided to write this review because I like it so much. As a note, I never write reviews.

So I just pretty much bought it about a couple days ago because I've always wanted a gaming laptop but anyways I am very satisfied with how it performs. It's not too loud when its cooling, power comsumption is decently good, game performance is top notch haven't experienced any lag or sorts of errors yet, response rate is great, and graphics and color turn out pretty good. But it is a little pricey which shouldn't stop you from buying this laptop because it performs how it should.

Using this laptop mostly for online school, the screen size is just right for have multiple windows open. The processor handles the multitasking well. Keyboard and mouse pad are situated perfectly for comfort (for typing and gaming). And of course you have to have fun on this computer, and I have been impressed by how it handles even the heavier games.

High Performance Machine Rivaling Desktops

This is an excellent performance machine that packs a punch at a reasonable size.
While this may not be equipped with AMD's or NVIDIA's new line of tech, this computer packs a punch that I've been very pleased with! Coming from custom desktop realm for the better part of 15 years, I've always had reservations about laptop performance and capability, given their inferiority. This doesn't give that vibe whatsoever - it is wicked fast and, under certain conditions, rivals my desktop (I9 10900 with an MSI 2080 super). It is fantastically lightweight, comparatively speaking, and has a great usability experience. The keyboard/trackpad feel are exceptional and the customization of backlighting color is a nice to have feature.
With all good things, there are a couple opportunity areas though: the hard corner at the base of the computer is a bit abrasive on your hands/wrists and isn't the most conducive for long usage periods. It isn't terrible but not ideal either. It can also get rather loud when the fans get going (not super frequent).
Overall, I would highly recommend this computer, Black Friday deal or not.

The HP Omen 15 is an impressive laptop. This 8-core CPU is impressive, the GTX 1660 Ti is certainly not going to hold you back much when it comes to gaming (I know some people are bummed about the AMD variant not having the higher RTX options), the 1TB SSD for storage is great and fast. And of course 16GB RAM is great for anyone out of the box, more than enough for the average user and plenty for someone doing intensive tasks.
The overall look of the laptop looks nice. Its a very minimalistic build but has a little bit of pizzaz to draw you in. The backlit keyboard is zone RGB, so that's a nifty feature to play with in the Omen Command Center app. You have plenty of ports on this machine, you aren't sacrificing anything... SD card slot and webcam both included, along with a USB-C (no power delivery), 3 USB ports, HDMI and mini display port.
To end, this laptop probably has the best thermal cooling I've ever seen in a laptop. It stays incredibly cool and runs very quiet. The fans are not distracting at all when playing intensive games at high settings. The fans are practically nonexistent while doing basic tasks. This is an impressive computer for the money!

Absolutely GREAT laptop for standard gaming. Good thermals so far even without a cooling pad. With a cooling pad I’m not even topping 80 degreees.
Runs all of the games I love so far: Civilization 6, Age of Empires 3, Crusader Kings III, Phasmophobia.
Yes I know these games aren’t SUPER demanding, but I’m almost positive this could handle most games you’d want to throw at it such as: Warzone, Fortnite, Cyberpunk, RDR2 on Medium/High settings(Pretty much slightly above console settings) just fine.
The system also comes with a spare M.2 slot and there is a larger battery you can buy from HP if that becomes an issue.
Standard web browsing/video watching runs for about 6 hours on the standard battery. Gaming of course only lasts anywhere from 1.5 hours to 2 hours on battery when playing a game like Rocket League.(Most gaming laptops don’t last long off of the charger period. Even without gaming.)
I use this laptop as an independent adjuster to run Xactimate and it does that extremely well. Couldn’t have asked for much more.

I’ve had this laptop for over two years now and it still works well for gaming and literature. I’ve had no issues. The only thing I’m not a fan of is that it doesn’t have a number keypad, but the backlit RBG keyboard is worth it.

This laptop is fantastic. It's lightweight for its power and very stylish. I can run more CPU taxing applications with absolutely no hesitation. Great for graphic design & gaming; the screen is beautiful & keyboard is comfortable. It also stays relatively cool even if you use it on your lap. If you're looking for a lot of power in a little package, this is your next laptop!

having built PCs for a while, I'm very impressed by this laptop. I bought a Dell G5 and was very disappointed especially by the thermals so I returned it and got this
Pros: This thing stays cool no matter what you throw at it. The screen response time is only 7ms @144hz so everything is incredibly smooth and instantly responsive without having to sacrifice color gamut. I recommend this laptop for anyone on a budget. Not a single problem when it comes to running and gaming for extensive amounts of time, unlike some others which crash (like the G5)
Cons: The finish shows fingerprints so easily and can be hard to remove smudges without a damp microfiber cloth.
There's a recess under the screen when the laptop is closed, so there's a good amount of lid flex if you're handling the laptop from the rear end. This probably has been tested by HP themselves but I like to be careful and cary it with pressure from the front just in case. Youtube will explain/show this.
Battery life can be disapointing if your power settings arent configured right, although most gaming laptops aren't good on this front to begin with. At full brightness and heavy browsing and music playing I get about 3 hours. You can probably get better results with lower brightness and setting the refresh rate to 60hz manually, and not having 20+ tabs open lol

This laptop is good for the price. The screen lid is very flexible so I would be careful how you pick it up, I would suggest by the front sides to avoid squeezing the screen against the keyboard. The cpu speed is fast with 8 cores. The 1660TI is good for today's games, but with the Nvidia 3000 series around the corner and game graphics advancing, I was afraid of it being outdated too quickly. I ultimately returned it. I bought the MSI GE66 Raider instead. I know it's a lot more money, but the 2070 super max-p will remain useful much longer. The CPU out preformed the i7-10750H 6 core in the MSI GE66 I replaced it with, but the GPU is no match for the MSI. If this omen is more in your budget, then go for it, it has good battery life and ran all of my games just fine, Witcher 3 ran over 60fps on ultimate with hair works on. The keyboard is fairly bright and 4 zones, one being dedicated to WASD for gaming. The screen is bright and 144hz evenly backlit. The ssd is very fast but it's a brand I have never heard of it is 1TB though. I would have kept it, but the MSI became available and I made the exchange.

Highly recommended. I was iMessage with the quality I got for the price I paid. This laptop can be used for work, gaming, or personal use. I use it for all 3. Great graphics, super fast and built really well. Was offer on an HP laptop but it’s thoroughly done what it said it would based on description.

Bought this computer originally online for $1260 open box, but a Black Friday deal came out, so I returned the open box one and got a brand new one in store for only $950!! That’s $400 off of its usual price ($1350).
For starters, the thermals and performance on this laptop are great. I play games like Warzone and Apex: Legends, and I get about 100+ FPS comfortably on maxed out settings without surpassing 72 degrees.
As for the battery life, I can pull about 5 hours doing normal productivity work like typing an assignment in google docs and doing general school work or web browsing.
Side note: You can pull more battery life by turning off the RGB keyboard and turning on battery saver, both of which I did.
As for the quality, there’s a little screen flex, but it’s honestly not a problem. This is coming from someone who carries this around in a backpack all day for school, so trust me when I say that you’ll be satisfied with the build quality, although it could be a little better.

Background... I am a software engineer, I live on these machines, and I have been a Macbook pro user since 2010.
The new AMD CPU's really got my attention, so I got the Ryzen model (after testing a couple others) and I run Ubuntu on it. So far this is a beast in every aspect even beating the 2019 Macbook pro in geekbench5 testing, it runs circles around my 2018 Macbook Pro model. Due to AMD not being a premium cpu I had to make some compromises on build, weight, and some what louder fans but not by much.... all in all well worth it!
Battery life - goodnuff (4+hrs on heavy non gaming use)
Screen - crisp, brightnuff even for outside although find shade to make it easier to read... yes its super scary flexible, but doesn't wobble when typing and the lcd panel itself is a flexible plastic so not much worry about a future broken screen.
Keyboard - so amazing, takes a sec to get used to as its off center but I love typing on it even when connected to my external display, maybe its because I came from the macs famous keyboard. The arrow keys are a delight to have separated
I/O's... it has all of them from Ethernet to headphones. No need for a dongle with this machine!
Touch pad - not glass, but has a nice click to it.. i normally tap but I find myself clicking just to fell the feedback.
All in all this is my Macbook Pro replacement, crazy to think that but this machine has amazing upgrade-able hardware inside and when under load does NOT throttle which has been an Intel headache for years.
Highly recommended!

This laptop is fast and stays cool. Fan can get loud, but it doesn't bother me since it keeps the laptop from heating. The keyboard feels good to type on. The only thing I wish I could change is making the screen dimmer. It's still too bright for me on lowest brightness setting.

This is hands down the best laptop for the money. It has fantastic performance with the Ryzen CPU and 1660 Ti. The temperatures are great as well. If you're looking for a laptop that will play pretty much anything at 1080p, this is it. If you get this on sale, it's a steal for the money (Under $1k). The battery life is pretty good for a gaming laptop at 5-8 hours, depending on usage. The keyboard is awesome and there is very little flex in the chassis. The touchpad is nice and the speakers are slightly above average. The screen is great and gets bright enough for bright environments. If you know someone looking for a gaming laptop or are looking for one yourself, this should be at the top of your list. If you need more performance than a 1660 Ti, then I would recommend the MSI GE66 Raider with the 2070 Super. Otherwise, this is the laptop to get. You will not regret it.

Going to make this short and sweet with a pros, mehs, and cons list...
Pros:
- Doesn't look like a gaming laptop
- LG 144hz FHD IPS ~10ms-15ms response time (LGD05FE)
- Awesome APU (CPU) (comparable to i7 and higher)
- Awesome GPU (no reason to get RTX right now in a mobile platform)
- 1TB SSD
- 16GB DDR4 2933 MHz
- Price ~$1100 when I bought
- Battery life (when not gaming)
- Stays very cool
- Great speakers
- Ethernet port!
- Ample USB ports
Mehs:
- Backlight RGB colors are not individually customizable per key but rather per their section
- Wish the trackpad had actual buttons that weren't integrated into the trackpad
- The trackpad is uneven (common issue for HP)
- The 200W adapter is huge and gets HOT when gaming
Cons:
- The lid is plastic!
- The lid (screen) is super super flimsy
- One of the hinges on mine was crooked so I had to force it into place
- The hinges only hold the screen on the outside of the hinge (the lower middle section of the screen is almost free-floating and that makes it even more flimsy)
- When the lid is closed it has a lot of travel when pressed near the logo and the lower middle section of the lid (so much so that I have to be very careful when holding the laptop when it is closed)
TLDR:
- Good bang for your buck
- Awesome specs
- Awesome features
- Awesome screen
- OK battery life
- The plastic lid is bad
- The plastic lid is horrible
- The plastic lid is horrendous
- Check your laptop for quality issues (hinge and trackpad in mine)

Good laptop, and sale price made it definitely worth it. The 1660 in this feels a little slower than the 5600 in my wife's G5 SE. Over all good gaming at 1080 though I wouldn't see it being useful beyond that resolution. The ssd is fast and there is standard issue ddr4 3200 cl22 memory (come on hp where's the low latency memory we all know ryzen craves?!?!). Battery life is no where near my wife's G5 Se and the both of have Ryzen 4800s with 16gb ram too. All in all not terrible by any stretch but these processors paired with radeon graphics have better battery life for every day use while suffering a little with gaming on battery. HP put a 5600 instead of the 1660 and you'd have an amazing machine here. The screen also doesn't look as good as the msi and dell machines in its class to me (they are weren't on sale though). At the sale price it was definitely best bang for the buck all around though I would not have picked it at its full price. I would only recommend this machine at the sale price

This laptop hasn't given me any issues so far in the ~14 months that I've owned it. I bought it for $874 before tax, Open Box Certified. It was considered to be a great deal at the time. It handles most games pretty well. I guess I slightly regret not waiting to purchase a laptop with a newer graphics card, but oh well, this one is good enough. I don't even game very much anyway, and I shouldn't complain considering it's still working fine. The processor is definitely very fast, that's for sure, and the SSD is also fast. I bought another 1TB SSD to install if I need more storage space, but so far I haven't needed to install it.
