Bought this for $749.99 when it was on sale. For that price your getting a really great laptop with solid specs. Although, the build quality is mostly plastic It feels very solid. The design has a professional aesthetic and the green accents give it character. The screen is plenty bright while being super fast because it’s 144Hz. The laptop isn’t too big with its 16.1 inch display so it can easily be transported. The webcam is 1080p full HD so it’s great for video calls. The keyboard is large, responsive, and tactile with a cool green backlight (number pad built in). It has a precision touchpad which feels smooth to the touch. The performance of the CPU and GPU is fantastic and can handle all your tasks (work or gaming). The fans weren’t too loud while thermals stayed cool enough (cooling pad is recommended). Battery life was mediocre at best (1-5 hours with light use) but the charger needs to be plugged in when performing intensive tasks. If your buying this laptop for the sole purpose of gaming then it’s a really good budget option. Most games can be played on medium to high settings at 1080p while newer more demanding titles will need to be turned down to low. The laptop is fully upgradable so ram and ssd can be expanded by taking off the bottom plate. However, the base specs right out of the box get the job done. The only cons are the lack of ports (only 2 USB type A ports) and a Wi-Fi 5 card (not Wi-Fi 6). At least It does have a thunder bolt 3 type C port due to the intel chip. Overall for $749.99 this is a great budget gaming laptop. However, I wouldn’t pay $899.99 for it as their are better options out there for that price.

I've had this laptop for almost 2 years now. I ended up upgrading the RAM to 16gb after a year. I will say that if you plan to upgrade RAM with this laptop, its very picky because of it being a laptop and with research, i've learned that Pavilion (or HP itself) is very picky with what RAM you put in, so keep that in mind. It works really well for MMOs (I've played both SWTOR and ESO). It works pretty well with a little lag on Halo infinite. Apex is basically unplayable on this though, so watch out for that. I get some good days, but most of the time its to the point of the music lagging as well. Most likely because of the processor. Phasmophobia works really well, so does Minecraft and somewhat PUBG. PUBG lags sometimes and there was one time when I played that the trees were just colored pixels unless i got up close to them.
The con... I've had multiple BSODs in the past couple weeks with windows telling me nothing. My friend had the same laptop and it died after two years. I'm planning on getting a PC tower once holiday deals start running around. If you are planning on not upgrading for awhile, I do not suggest this laptop for long time gaming.
If you have a problem with loud fan runs, I also wouldnt suggest this. The right side of the keyboard tends to get hotter as you play games and the fans get pretty loud. No issues as far as I know with heat messing with my computer, so if you're fine with a loud fan, be my guest.
I am guessing with my laptop, that i keep getting BSOD because I keep running games that the process does not like or having too many things up at once and its just saying no really loudly (not sound wise, just with the blue screen xD)
Battery life is bad off the power supply. So is the fastness or quality of basically everything.
graphics are actually pretty good. 1660 ti is pretty good so dont be discouraged about it. I will say that with just 6 tabs open, discord open, and origin my CPU usage right now is 8% and fluxuates to 20-30. but with any game open its at 100%. Sometimes it lags, but its useable and bearable.
overall, its a good entry level laptop and works really well for the price and has dealt with the absolute pain i've put it through the past 2 years. Its been a good run Pavilion.

I got this laptop on sale for $749. I'm not sure how often BB will cycle this offer, but at my time of purchase there was no better value available for the specs that this machine offers.
I have owned this computer for one week now, and I purchased it to serve as my primary home computer for school work and some casual gaming. The screen and GPU are the highlights, as you won't find these specs available on many (any?) other laptops with a sub $800 price point. The design is attractive, with green accents that are understated enough to pass in a professional environment and the build feels substantial (given the all-plastic construction) while still maintaining a fair degree of lightness and mobility. So far, this laptop has performed well while running Witcher 3, Halo Master Chief Collection and COD Warzone at highest settings- all while running quietly and keeping within a safe thermal range.
Overall, I have been very happy with this laptop and would recommend it heartily- even more so if you can snag it on sale!

First thing I want to mention:
Wow, what a powerhouse of a laptop for such a good price! The pairing of the i5 CPU, 1660ti a 144hz screen, and a Optane memory, which alone costs $100!!! It lets you throw any game at it to run on high settings or medium with great frames per second.
Secondly: The price point is great for what it has! For $900, you definitely will get what you paid for. Granted HP has cut corners with the frame. It is plastic, but definitely high grade. A fingerprint magnet, but honestly it can be cleaned as long as you're not a neanderthal with it and rub your greasy Dorito residue gamer fingers all over frame.
I haven't PC gamed in a while and this was the best product to get back into what I loved back then. 10/10 will recommend

I bought it two years ago; it's still strong. It can run games with higher graphics with little issue. I noticed after the first couple of months, the fans would go crazy. I could have like 5 chrome tabs opened and it would go off. It is kind of loud. You probably don't want to bring this into a quiet lecture room because it sounds like an airplane taking off. Overall, good laptop.

I have owned this laptop for exactly a month now and I am super happy with it overall.
I initially bought it on a whim because I was in the market for an entry-to-mid level gaming laptop and this one was in the price range that I was willing to pay with the specs that I was looking for.
It has an absolutely beautiful screen on it and has handled everything that I’ve thrown at it so far with ease. I do wish it had at least one extra USB port on it, but that is easily alleviated with a hub.
The right side of the laptop around the keypad will get hot during game-play, but it has ever been hot enough to be uncomfortable for me personally. It is a gaming laptop after all and some heat is to be expected.
They keyboard is great as well and I like the green back-light it has. The back-light will turn off after about 30-40 seconds of inactivity (no key presses or track pad/mouse movement), but I have no problem with that and you do have the option to make it stay permanently on via a BIOS setting.
I generally keep the laptop plugged in, but on battery you will get approximately 5 hours of life depending on your usage.
I highly recommend this laptop if you are on a budget and need a great gaming entry level laptop.
UPGRADING:
In order to upgrade this laptop you have to remove eight screws on the bottom of the machine and then use a plastic prying tool of your choice and carefully work around the edges of the panel so that the clips holding it on release. You need to take your time doing this step so that you do not snap off these clips.
It is important to remember that it is a plastic case, so excessive force will damage and/or scratch it.
Once the case it open you have the ability to upgrade the 8GB memory, 512GB NVMe M.2 Solid State Drive, or even add an additional hard drive if you desired to do so. Just be sure to disconnect the battery before proceeding to do any work though.
I upgraded my memory to 16GB using the Crucial 16GB (2 x 8GB) CT2K8G4SFRA32A Memory kit.
For those wondering, the computer did detect the speed as 3200 automatically.

Awesome little beast plus I got it on sale for 699. The only thing i probably will do is upgrade memory to 16 gig. For the specs this thing is a buy at regular price. I was torn between this and the Asus and glad I went with the HP. The keyboard color can be changed in the bios, You have 3 options 30 seconds 3 minutes or never. This replaced an Acer Nitro 5 and this is a much faster. I like the screen just a little bigger without the bulk of a 17 inch. The screen res is great with 144hz. For the price you can beat it

Good size. not very loud with fans cranked up to 100. it can play modern games like a console. it plays vr with out problems which is what i used it for mainly. only issue is the bios. you cant do anything with it like overclocking. the ram is stuck at 2100 and its rated for 3200, because of this you cant do upgrading. would recommend if you don't care about bios stuff and want something like an xbox.

So far, I really like this laptop. I needed a laptop that could accommodate two separate monitors. I thought that it would be easy to find at a reasonable price.
This laptop is fast, easy to use, looks good, and I like the keyboard's ease of use, backlight, and positioning.
I like how thin and light it is too.
I read a few other reviews that talked about the fan is too loud. However, I have not encountered that.

As I was shopping for a gaming laptop I found 2 types. One was what seems like a good regular laptop with an average video card or on board graphics that could just "game" and no more. And then there were machines that put gaming first and this is one of those machines.
The difference in gaming performance between the 1660Ti and a 1650 offered in so many gaming laptops is significant. Yes, you will get about 60fps at 1080p on most games, but not all on high settings and on not all games. We are talking close to DOUBLE the FPS and performance with the 1660Ti. Some other review mentioned 80FPS on CS:Go - I get 200. On a very graphic intensive game like Dirt Rally 2.0 I get about 100 FPS on average on ultra.
They did the gamer right by pairing this card with a 144Hz monitor which looks fantastic. Getting a 16.1 inch screen that is bigger is nice also, if you are set on a 17.3 for some reason. Side by side, you would easily notice the difference between a 60hz monitor and 1650 pairing v. this. AND for what it is worth, you get some future proofing also. This card should continue to perform very well for years to come.
512GB drive is a little small but manageable as is 8gb of ram. I plan to but have not yet upgraded the ram to 16GB or a bigger drive and the system still runs fine. I want to be able to game away from home but not spend a mortgage payment on it.
There are some cons to the laptop. It runs very hot. The GPU must be located toward the right side of the unit because it gets very hot, not that you can't touch it, but uncomfortable. And the power brick gets so hot it could burn you if you wanted. That's partly because the 1660Ti is a powerful card.
Build quality seems pretty good, but I am worried about the center focused hinge so be sure and open it from the middle and not either of the side. Also, there is a lot of give from the top shell to the back of the monitor panel that you can push in easily. As for typing and using the laptop itself, it is very solid. There is no give in the keyboard and it does not sink or push in AT ALL.
I got a laptop cooler pad and it is a good investment to make for $25 bucks. It will prolong the life of your laptop and components inside so they don't get fried. The system will run cooler. Plus, picking it up off the desk means no spills will get underneath it which is big for a klutz like me and it puts the laptop in a more comfortable position to use, and to look at (eye level) instead of down.
I looked for months for the best value/performance combination out and this was my huckleberry. Plus, green is my favorite color. I can definitely recommend this laptop, but we shall see over time about the build quality and durability.

Overall great laptop. Super fast, great graphics, and has ability to upgrade ram/memory. Good for school/work/play. Has nice green backlit keyboard that is just bright enough for night use, but not overbearing. Price is maybe high for some, but for a gaming laptop it’s not to bad. Only downside is base memory. You only get 250 SSD, but you get the freedom to upgrade this to what you need. If your looking for something to play your higher end games on, this works great and the you can still easily take it with you to school and work. If your not playing any sort of higher end games, I wouldn’t spend the money on this. Would highly suggest getting a wireless mouse for this. I got Logitech’s G305 is a good compliment to this laptop.

This is my first laptop but for the price this thing really can't be beat.
Screen is clear but not great in sunlight.
Speakers are fairly clean sounding, but don't get very loud.
Games run fantastically for such a tiny little chassis but the fans will ramp up and cook anything behind it.
The only thing I really want is one more USB port, two is a little low.
But for the price I got it ($750 on sale) it's hard to really complain about anything not being top of the line when most comparivle laptops are 1100 or more

At first I wanted to return this laptop to get another one with a RTX GPU, but then there was some issue returning, and I couldn't wait anymore and I picked it up after it was laying around for 1 month in the store. Well I don't have regrets anymore after using it. I slightly underestimated the 1660ti Max-Q, it packs quite a powerful punch. First I want to mention that I had a major problem when I started using it - and mind you, it's probably not the laptop's fault. Believe me or not, MSI Afterburner was causing huge CPU problem for me - it was constantly using 5 - 10% CPU all the time even when I wasn't doing anything. It was a huge headache to figure it out (I had to reset PC twice, reinstall/install drivers numerous times in the process). I tried reinstalling/installing official MSI, beta MSI and even older versions but it still was taking 5 - 10% CPU. It made the fans ramp up for no reason. I couldn't find any solutions for it. Now I use HWINFO64 along with RTSS for my OSD in games. I can't play games without an OSD ;)
Anyway, on to the next part. As it can't be undervolted, another alternative can be done which does the same thing - I used XTU to reduce power intake to 25W. The highest temps hardly goes above 80. Thermals are pretty good. Also I like how there's one large vent in the back - unlike others which exhausts hot air on sides. The thermals are very good even with one large back vent.
The screen and the color accuracy is amazing. I think the response time is also pretty low which is very good. The Optane does increase the read speed of the stock M.2 SSD by a lot - I did some testing and it increases read from 1500 to 2500 and slightly increases write from 950 to 1150.
Check out OwnOrDisown's video, he goes over several benchmarks on this laptop for more details. Also the GPU can be OVERCLOCKED slightly! Yes! I used EVGA Precision's OC scanner to auto overclock.
There's another trick to reduce thermals even MORE. Not many people might like this as it'll result in slightly reduced FPS depending on games, but I do prefer it. Disabling Intel turbo boost reduces the highest temps to just between 65 - 70. Also at this temp, fans are quieter and around 41 - 42 decibels. It's slightly inconvenient to switch turbo, but not that hard. Go to power plan -> advanced options -> scroll to processor power management -> reduce the 100% to 99% to disable turbo.

Great features at a great price! The extras in this above-budget gaming computer make it well worth the buy. The memory modules for both the processing power and hard drive create smooth start ups and run time. The resolution and graphics speed qualify well above others in this price range with higher module processors. This i5 runs faster with a much better price tham i7 module with half the ram and speeds. Plus that backlit keyboard is awesome!

Incredible laptop for the price. Picked it up on sale for $699.99. getting over 100fps on gtav and around 50 fps medium settings on cyberpunk 2077. I use this for work as well so the discreet look really helps it blend in. I love the fact that it's easy to open and upgrade the RAM and ssd. It's not a hardcore gaming rig, but for me, gets the job done while I'm on my couch and not on my desktop pc. It does get warm while gaming but I don't really notice because I use a lap desk and cooling pad. Fans don't get too loud either. Great buy and would recommend.

Really liked the look (sleek black and green), the form (bigger screen but smaller body, although it did feel truncated). Keyboard was a dream for typing, color contrast of letters and green strip on keys made it easier to see in the dark even without the backlight. Screen was great with excellent viewing angles. Has full size SD memory card slot! Camera and WiFi connection were great for Zoom videoconferencing.
Cons:
*No num lock indicator, neither on screen or as a light on the num lock key
*Fans would run while literally doing nothing, computer would remain hot while doing nothing
*SSD seems a little slower than Acer’s Nitro 5
*Poor battery life (charging needed at least twice in a workday even after keeping plugged up most of time)
* Fingerprint smudges/don’t know how cosmetics will hold up. After using for 1 week, looked like it’s been in use for a month.
* Backlight doesn’t stay on, but keyboard’s green contrast can be seen in limited lighting without backlight on.
* No in-device program to control lighting and fans, that I could see.
* Barely loud-enough speakers.
Had to return it because: 1) It crashed with BSOD at least 7 times in less than 2 weeks, twice during initial setup while installing Windows updates. It would often crash while I was in the middle of using it, other times while screen was on, but it was essentially sitting idle. 2) Ran hotter than was comfortable to use (hot under right palm heel and on lap) even though I wasn't gaming, just video streaming, browsing, and word processing (multitasking). Sometimes ran hot when just plugged up and in sleep mode.
