Customers are positive about the G MX518 Wired Optical Gaming Mouse's comfortable shape, upgraded sensor, and excellent price-to-performance ratio. Many appreciate its classic design and accuracy, while some find the scroll wheel noisy and the weight a bit heavy. A few users reported issues with the cable and overall functionality. The DPI adjustability is also a frequently praised feature.

Great price for classic mouse with updated sensor. A little heavier than all the new mice coming out, but still comfy as ever.

It's the classic! You know it. You love it. We keep buying it.
Cons: The mouse wheel doesn't feel as smooth when I use it but that's not a functionality problem. The new software though, G-Hub, if that was the only thing available to use this I would have returned it. It is horribly broken and I never made it past the loading logo. They seem to be heading the Synapse 2.0 direction but at least it didn't make me create an account or anything. Fortunately LogitechGamingSoftware_9.02.65 supports this model and you can easily find that online.

This is a good mouse. They really improved the design over the original mostly with the internal components, the form factor and button placement is the same. obviously the HERO sensor is very quick and responsive, and beyond the high DPI it just "feels" like I have more control over my mouse (I usually only use 1600-4000dpi anyways). I am sure Logitech has done a lot more to improve the performance of the mouse that isn't shown in the specs. it certainly seems like it
This is a big hand-filling mouse which I like. I wear Large size gloves and I think this mouse is the perfect size. I would imagine with smaller hands than mine it might not be as great.
Favorite thing about Logitech mice is the plug and play with no software and you still get all the buttons functionality (with default settings) obviously you can fine tune it with the GHUB software too but its nice that you don't have to install it if you don't want to. Logitech always does better in this category than other brands in my experience.
One thing I never liked about the original was the layout of the skate pads, there are 2 large ones at the front and back and one very small one on the left hand side. I felt that with the old version when I slid the mouse to the right it was not as smooth. But, I am happy to report that this mouse now has an additional skate that goes around the sensor itself and I think it makes a difference in how smooth it is.
The one thing that I have mixed feelings about is the plastic material used for the outer shell and sides. it feels a little bit cheaper than other Logitech mice. That could just be me though. At least its not rubberized.

I've used the MX518 for as long as they've been around. My original one just kicked the bucket recently and so I bought a replacement. The new versions are pretty much the same, except the quality is slightly less. The casing is made of a thinner lighter material. The cord is thinner. And overall it feels much lighter. I liked the originals heft. Still has a great feel though, buttons click, slides on a mouse pad. You know.. mouse stuff.

Had another brand gaming mouse with RGB led lighting but wanted a more comfortable mouse without the tacky lighting. Logitech G MX518 is such a mouse. Comfortable to hold in my hand with a natural thumb rest on the side and programmable buttons and switchable DPI settings to adjust sensitivity of the mouse. Should download the Logitech Gaming Center software to utilize the mouse to the fullest. Great buy, esp when it's on sale.

Very comfortable to use, and it is always working, and very precise. Even though I like the infinite scroll on my other mouse, my wireless MX Master, and the horizontal scroller that the MX Master has, I still use this one on my desk. It just feels so good and easy. Those are the only things that remind you that this is not a mouse that has all the most recent features of modern mice.

For those old enough to remember the G5 and the G500, this is a return to that style of mouse, and it is done incredibly well. The ergonomics are comfortable for many sizes of hand, and the weight is very balanced. The HERO optical sensor and processing are extremely responsive and versatile, particularly when you use the Logitech G Hub software to modify everything to your liking. However, even without the software, you have the ability to switch between pre-defined DPI settings easily, with a "home" button to switch you back to the default sensitivity.
The only thing that I miss on this model, compared to many of the higher-end and modern offerings from Logitech is the infinite/hype-scroll wheel. Most of my other models are equipped with that, and I have grown quite accustomed to having it, so this is about the only shortcoming that I could call out. Not enough to stop me from buying this more than once, both for my own use, and for friends and family.
All told, this is an easy recommendation as a go-to for office warriors, power users, gamers, and about anyone who needs accuracy, comfort, and customization options.

I’m sorry to be limited to 5 stars. I had the MX510 originally (2005) and then got a MX518 a year or 2 later. I’ve used it ever since. The feel of the new 518 is nice and it has a good texture on the sides (the old one had more “stickiness” whereas this one is “rough”). I think it’s a good upgrade and the hero sensor is nice since I don’t have to worry about pet hair creeping into the laser area.

A classic reborn, I still own the OG, and the new one has a better sensor but the switches and scroll wheel on the new unit are lower quality. The wheel on my unit make a terrible noise and is kind of clunky. Compared to my current daily driver the Glorious model D, the mx518 is a dinosaur, but it's like a comfy classic car you know and love but a bit of a clunker.

A Very Good Mouse

This mouse really excels at just being a mouse, and, for a certain audience, the price moves it from "good choice" to "no brainer."
The MX518 is a wired optical mouse that's based on a truly classic design from Logitech's earlier years. It feels very good in-hand and accommodates a variety of grip styles. The buttons offer a solid click and the scroll wheel is sturdy, tactile and clicks with an easy confidence. I have need of reliable middle mouse click and click-and-hold interactions on a regular basis, so that aspect of the MX518 is a definite high-point.
The sensor, unsurprisingly, offers stellar, lag-free precision. Multiple DPI settings and quick DPI switching, along with a useful "back to default" DPI button, make the mouse versatile whether gaming or working.
Logitech's G Hub software manages to do exactly what good peripheral software should do - stay out of the way, using minimal system resources, until I actually need it.
On the negative side, the mouse does feel less sturdy and premium then its progenitors. It's noticeably lighter - your mileage may vary on that, but I prefer a weightier mouse - and the materials feel cheaper. The plastic on the palm and finger rest in particular seems to be a magnet for skin oils. The mouse cord is also a simple, functional rubber and not a sturdier braided cord. Consistent with that same sense of cost consciousness the MX518 doesn't have any RGB lighting or fancy visual flourishes.
Considered as a complete product, though, the MX518 is a great mouse. It works very well, it feels very good, and it will doubtless exceed the expectations of most users. Taking a classic, battle-tested design and updating the internals with quality, modern technology was a smart move and the result is a definite win at this price point.

Great value for this classic gaming mouse. I got this to replace my old Razer. This mouse looks simple but works fine for any casual gamer who doesn't care about the LED lighting displayed on most of the newer models. I use this to play FPS such as CSGO and it serves the purpose.

i LOVE this mouse. as much as I'd like to not have cables on my desk, i can not live without this mouse. I've had one for years and bought this as a backup before they go out of stock again. The weight and size of the mouse are perfect, it feels solid and smooth. most mice these days feel hollow or cheap or have way too many buttons.

Replaced my G400 after 9 years and felt right at home. The form factor is exactly the same but has slightly different textures. The mouse wheel isn't exactly great but it gets the job done. It's compatible with the Logitech Gaming Software so you can set the buttons to whatever you want. It's a solid gaming mouse and has the perfect number of buttons imo.

Possibly best mouse ever made. I started off with the MX510 for gaming which was always the best ( about 15 years ago ). MX518 is the same but a new version of it, it holds the same shape. I've purchased probably 3 of these in the past 10 years. No other mouse created by Logitech or any other brand comes close to this specific shape.

True plug-and-play capabilities with a Windows 10 desktop. Comfortable fit, plenty of buttons, works like a charm, and no additional drivers needed because it replaced a much older Logitech mouse. Definitely recommend this especially when it's on sale.
