This is an amazing vacuum and I took 3 years to get a neato but tit was worth the wait however it wouldn’t connect to our WiFi because it is too weak so what I do is I just use it for single rooms but still works great

Very Disappointing. "No Go Zones" DO NOT WORK

This is my second Neato I've owned. I was coming from a Neato Connected which I purchased 4 years ago which I have been happy with, but I saw this D8 on sale and read about the big new feature, "No Go Zones." The D8 can apparently map out your floor plan and I could theoretically have it clean without me having to lay down a magnetic strip (like the Neato Connected) to avoid it vacuuming in a specific area. I really liked this idea because in our Game Room we have a rug with fringes on two ends of the rug, so with our old Neato I would have to just close the door so that room get skipped from being vacuumed. The D8 seems like a perfect solution. All I had to do was map out the fringes and then it would vacuum the rest of the room, right? WRONG. The D8 decided to obey the Map sometimes, but most of the times it ignored the "no go zones. Aside from that for some strange reason it would start vacuuming at 3AM randomly and it was getting stuck under our guest bedroom bed all the time (even though I mapped out the bed as a no go zone too). I finally realized that I had to babysit this thing more than my old trusty Neato Connected. I'm glad I kept my old Neato, because this guy just isn't worth it...

My old D80 is far superior to this new robot. Got confused and would just go back and forth for a few minutes and then return to it's base. Tech support was slow to respond and didn't offer much assistance.

Repeat sensor errors on multiple units

I've been a long time Neato customer and over the years have owned and worn out several. I find they do an excellent job of picking up dog fur. This model however is horrible. When it works it does fine, but it has terrible issues with "sensor" problems. I've gone through four units in the 1.3 years since I first purchased it. The longest one has worked was 2 months, and the others have lasted only 2 weeks each. Nothing in my house is any different than it has been for all the years that the earlier models worked just fine in. I am tired of having to call Neato customer service, going through their routine to confirm that yes, it is a problem, packing it up, sending it back, and having them send me yet another defective unit. I would not recommend!

I have owned several Neato D5 and D6 robots for the last several years and they are hard to beat for the wide brush and suction power. This new robot uses a new app that frequently crashs and this robot is obviously defective. It stops any time the front bumper touches any object or wall and gives a "too close to the edge" error. It has cleaned approx 400' in the last 15 or some attemped runs. I am exchanging it for a new one and will update if this was just a one off bad robot.

Very happy with my updated Neato. I have an older d3 without a side bush. This new one is very nice, after a huge software update, it performed well and mapped my house after it was done of where it was at. It even has no go lines like the upper models all thanks to the software update. I recommend as a good starter robot vacuum.

Many other ridiculous things. i went thru best buy to initiate a return but apparently the 14 day window has passed, which is the time i have been trying to resolve issue with manf. My first use experience with robot vacuums goes back to 2017, and the iRobot Roomba that I got back then is still regularly used with no end in sight. It still performs just as well as it did on day one, and although the internal sensors are a bit sensitive to dust I really don’t have any big gripes with the product. Still, it has been four years and I was eager to see what that time has done for the development of robot vacuums. The Neato Robotics D8 doesn’t have the standard circular footprint that many robot vacuums do. Neato “squared off” one side of the vacuum in an effort to make vacuuming in corners more plausible than a regular circular vacuum. This “D” shape is likely where the device gets its name. The roller on the bottom of the D8 is wide—28 cm—which allows it to cover more ground in a single pass than my older Roomba does. The D8 is guided using LIDAR, instead of cameras, which allows it to accurately map the environment (more on that in a moment). In addition to the vacuum, Neato includes 2 spare filters and a brush cleaner. I find this to be a really nice touch. The charging base has built in cable management, allowing you to conceal any spare cord. This vacuum does not self-empty at the charging base. On its first run I immediately noticed that the D8 has what I would consider a “logical” cleaning pattern. This is different from my aging Roomba, which seems to have more sporadic cleaning paths. Generally, the D8 will outline an area to clean, then fill in the interior of that outline before moving on to the next area. It’s ‘D-shape’ design may be a nice touch and thoughtfully intended, although in execution I didn’t find that it did a great job in corners. Yes, that shape allows it better access to corners, but it doesn’t get tightly into those corners in practice. It is certainly still better than a circular footprint, though. Even though the D8 doesn’t self-empty at the charing station, emptying the container is very simple—it can be accessed from the top of the vacuum with a gentle pull on the bin inset. I found myself dropping crumbs and dust on the way to the garbage at first because of the orientation of the waste compartment and its connection to the rest of the vacuum, but that was a simple adjustment to make. As a totally unscientific test, I vacuumed the area prior to the D8’s first run, and even after doing so the D8 was able to pull additional dust and debris from the carpet. I think this is a good practice before your first run of the D8 because of its limited bin size, but that limited size doesn’t seem to impact its overall performance. The D8 can also vacuum hardwood floors, and considering it does a better job than my Roomba does with this task, that is now its sole responsibility. My living room and kitchen/dining area are on different levels, but even over floor mats and rugs the D8 did a fine job transitioning from wood to carpet back to wood again. Battery life on the D8 is totally sufficient for my use. On its most recent run, the D8 covered 400 square feet in 70 minutes and still had around 50% battery when complete. To a certain degree, Neato’s app is where the real magic happens. The app displays the D8’s cleaning history and allows you to create schedules for automated cleaning. It also stores maps of its cleaning history, thanks to the LiDAR Scanner, allowing you to view performance visually based upon your floor plan. Currently, the app only supports storage of one map at a time, but support for additional maps is coming soon. It also retains map versions, which can be used to track multiple maps for the time being. The maps themselves are editable and can be adjusted with ‘no-go’ zones to make sure the D8 is only cleaning where you want it to. No-go zones are also a good way for you to help the D8 avoid problem areas, like ledges, stairs, or any other areas you find it might get stuck. Even after 4 years, design options for robot vacuums don’t seem to be that diverse. But Neato makes a few intentional adjustments here that I think are worth considering. One of my biggest gripes about robot vacuums is their price. In many ways I believe this to be a result of a lack of demand—not many people are going out to buy these, so the pricing hasn’t really changed over the last decade. There are certainly more budget-friendly options on the market, and herein lies the rub: The Neato Robotics D8 retails at $699. I’m not suggesting (necessarily) that it’s not worth the money, but what the D8 does seems part and parcel with what many robot vacuums will do. If there were a less-expensive model from Neato, I’d probably start there before investing $700 on a vacuum. Considering I am pretty loose with my spending on tech products, more so than most (I imagine), I think this pricing is a high for what you’re getting. None of that should take away from the product itself which does a fine job—but that price tag is definitely giving me pause in terms of its overall rating.

If you’re looking for a good overall robot vacuum, the Neato D8 is a solid purchase from my experience thus far with the machine. I’ve used approx. four robot vacuums over the past four years, and overall they tend to work great at first but slowly lose their luster over time. I can't say what time will do for the D8 (my first from them) but the start up and initial time with it is good. Let’s break things down from the unboxing. Set up is very straightforward from the start. You'll need to download the app, go through a few steps to get your house mapped out. Make sure you get the MyNeato app; the Neato app itself won't work with the D8. There are two initial runs of mapping and then you're set to vacuum. You can set up schedules or specific times for your robot to clean, which is a nice touch. There are two cleaning modes: Eco and Turbo. From my understanding, Turbo should pick up more by almost doubling the suction power, but I really did see that in real-world usage. So, I'd just keep it in Eco all the time unless you need heavy-duty usage. Turbo was better on carpet/rugs but is noticeably louder than Eco. This should be noted: the vacuum itself is really pretty quiet, specifically compared to one other robot I have in the house currently. Typical clean time is about 20 min for my 1200 sq ft upstairs which I think it's fair. The battery seems good and hasn't had any issues with cleaning the whole house when necessary. Speaking of cleaning, one thing I really like about the D8 is that if your unit encounters an error it won’t just stop cleaning; it continues on and you can fix it after the cleaning run. This is unlike any other robot vacuums I’ve used and I think is a great feature that more should utilize. Canister size is also the best I’ve used and can easily do two runs of the house without needing to empty and affecting suction performance. Lastly, I'll say that the D8 did work well on hardwood/laminate flooring, but remember that robot vacuums aren't really supposed to be your every week vacuum machine. They should complement your larger vacuum routine. Also, should you encounter any issues I’ve heard Neato customer service is very helpful in regards to their products, which is something I can say is always appreciated. All that said, I think the D8 is a good purchase if you can find it on sale. Enough features and function in the mid/top-range from Neato to be worth it, and the company's app is the best I've used so far. Overall, would recommend.

I've always been a fan of Neato as they do make quality products. I still have a older D series robot and after a few years its still running pretty strong. The biggest changes I noticed between the D8 vs the older D series is that this D8 is just a hair larger, a lot quieter in eco mode, contains larger battery, uses a new MyNeato app, and I noticed it has one extra sensor now in the rear. The charging base is also a lot smaller than before. For me robot vacuum must haves are; lidar navigation, virtual no go lines, larger sized dirt bin, and have the ability to schedule. This Neato D8 checks all of those boxes! The first time you use it will need to create a floor map so it will bounce around a bit while it maps the rooms. Then the second run it does a better job of actual vacuuming. Also you can then create virtual no go lines on your floor plan. The no go lines are now boxes instead of single lines but after using it I feel like its a better design. I use it mostly on hardwood floors and rugs. The battery in this thing is amazing. I can do an entire floor in my house in eco mode and the battery is still at 70%! So even if it degrades over time it shouldn't be much of an issue. If it runs into a problem it speaks the issue and possible solution instead of just beeping at you. As for the actual vacuuming I've had no issues with it missing anything. It picks up everything on the floor and never missed a spot. It does a pretty good job of trying to go in straight lines when it can. I did notice it goes over the same spot sometimes twice so seems like the software might still need some updates? It uses a combo brush thats half soft rubber and half soft brush. I prefer those over the all rubber ones which seem to be a lot noisier and harder on your floors. One specific thing I do miss is the gentle navigation feature. Where the robot avoids bumping into stuff and instead keeps a distance from everything. This specific D8 model does not have that feature. Looks like you have to get D9 or D10 to get that feature. Oh and this time around they included two extra filters in the box which is plus. As for the new MyNeato app I was impressed. Its still missing a few features that are "coming soon" but overall I feel its better than the old one. Really wish they would allow the older D series vacuums to use it so I don't have to have two separate neato apps installed. Below is a list of pros and cons based on my personal experience. Pros: Uses lidar based navigation Quieter than most Good suction large dirt bin 2 extra filters are included D shape Mixed rubber/soft bush head with added side brush Small charging station Virtual no go lines Eco/Turbo modes New mobile app is easier to use Easy to take apart and clean Cons: New app does not work with older D models No gentle navigation mode Cant connect to google home "yet" Overall this is one of the better vacuum robots I've used. It actually works as described. I feel like its a minor upgrade over the previous models but still a great option for anyone who is looking for a solid robot vacuum that doesn't need mopping or self empty capabilities.
