Windows 11 compatible, too little RAM for 10 or 11

I am running the prerelease version of Windows 11 on this laptop so don't worry about Windows 11 compatibility, it meets both the TPM 2.0 and Secureboot requirements. Now onto the review... this laptop comes with Windows 10 S mode, not standard Windows 10. Now you're reading this like "what the heck is S mode???" It's a mode where Windows runs only Windows store apps and apps that are built into Windows. This means you can't run standard Windows software like VLC, or Word, or Firefox or Chrome (although Windows 10 now has a new Edge browser which is built on Chrome). This limitation seems like a an immediate no-buy but it is possible to easily change out of S mode to run standard Windows 10 so you can run all your popular Windows apps. There is no charge to do this, but you will never be able to switch back into S mode again even if you restore the PC to factory default. You need to know that if you decide to switch out of S mode the laptop requires a ram upgrade from 4GB to 8GB or 16GB. If you only have 4GB the laptop's graphic processor is not able to reconcile this small amount of GPU memory (512MB) with GPU accelerated apps like web browsers, Discord, and video players will eventually cause the PC to hard freeze up without a blue screen. Okay you can work around this by turning off GPU acceleration in those apps and the computer will stop freezing. Unfortunately 4GB is still too little ram to run Windows 10 (or 11) in it's normal mode if you need to run multiple apps and multiple browser tabs. You will experience browser tabs that unload and when you switch back to it the page will have to reload the tab - and that's quite annoying. I also had problems with wireless mice refusing to let the PC sleep with 4GB of ram. After determining the lack of ram was causing problems I decided to grab a big fat stick of 16GB ram. Now all of these problems are gone just like that. I can even play games like Eve Online now. With extra ram this laptop functions great, I have not encountered any unusual little problems. The single core IPC in CPU-Z is about 10% slower than a Ryzen 1600 desktop CPU. BestBuy's Patriot ram they sell in the stores is not compatible with this laptop, I tried it and had to return it. For those who like to upgrade RAM themselves here's a list of compatible ram modules from Crucial, just google these part numbers:
*16GB CT16G4SFD832A (fastest choice, dual rank stick)
16GB CT16G4SFD8266 (fastest choice, dual rank stick)
16GB CT16G4SFD824A (fastest choice, dual rank stick)
16GB CT16G4SFRA32A (slightly slower, single rank stick)
16GB CT16G4SFRA266 (slightly slower, single rank stick)
8GB CT8G4SFRA32A (slightly slower, single rank stick)
8GB CT8G4SFRA266 (slightly slower, single rank stick)
8GB CT8G4SFS824A (slightly slower, single rank stick)
*The first entry on the list above is the stick that I used. It doesn't really matter what speed ram you select from the list above the memory controller on this CPU will only run at DDR4-2400 maximum. Dual rank DDR4 memory can be 5-10% faster than single rank. Upgrading the ram isn't hard, remove the rubber feet strips by simply pulling them off, unscrew six phillips screws, then spudger the plastic assembly around the edges. Pull off the bottom plastic assembly and you will have access to the RAM and SSD slots. Paying Geeksquad to do it would be best if you aren't comfortable with this. It can be done in 10 minutes so labor will not cost much and you don't have to be out of service waiting for it to be done.
I recommend this laptop if you're on a budget, but only if you're willing to upgrade the ram, The 4GB configuration is simply too slow and too buggy, but that will be the issue for any laptop with only 4GB.

For a 2c/2t processor and 4gb of ram, I am quite impressed. But, to be on the dafe side, I ended up buying another 4gb of ram (ddr4) and ended up adding a 512gb ssd for a secondary storage (I didn'treally need to for what I planned on using it for). You will need to buy a 10 pin ssd/hdd connector ($8-$22 item w/ or w/o a caddy). Of course, it will require you to remove the bottom panel, which wasn't that hard to do.
Sad part is that I did my research ahead of time and best buy employee didn't know crap stating that I couldn't upgrade the ram or storage due to due to the slimness of the laptop. Also, stating that there is no fan in the system which there is because there is a small one for the cpu.

Good basic no frills laptop for every day uses like banking social media is what I was looking for and pleased by its performance so far opted out of the s mode setting because my bank gives me free internet security Webroot for online banking and s mode would not let it run till just run the regular windows 10. My laptop purchased had a free 3 month subscription to webroot then after 3 months I had to buy webroot . Wish the keyboard had a number pad beside the letter keyboard but this only has the numbers on the top row which takes a bit to get accustomed to..

This is a nice and inexpensive computer. Has all of the functions, however the camera quality is not that good and for Zoom meetings you’ll need a green background in order to use the virtual background feature. Other than that I have no problems

My Reliable Companion: HP 14" Laptop with AMD Athl

I recently acquired the HP 14" Laptop with AMD Athlon processor, 4GB memory, and a 128GB SSD in Jet Black, and I must say, it has been a reliable companion for both work and leisure. As an avid multitasker and occasional gamer, this laptop perfectly fits my needs, providing a seamless computing experience.
First and foremost, the 14" display size strikes a balance between portability and productivity. It's compact enough to carry around effortlessly, yet spacious enough to comfortably view documents, browse the web, and enjoy multimedia content. The Jet Black color adds a touch of sophistication, making it an attractive device.
Under the hood, the AMD Athlon processor delivers reliable performance for my daily tasks. From web browsing and word processing to multimedia streaming, this laptop handles it all smoothly. I can seamlessly switch between applications without any noticeable lag, thanks to the efficient processing power.
The 4GB memory ensures efficient multitasking, allowing me to have multiple applications open simultaneously without experiencing a significant slowdown. It's perfect for managing my work-related tasks, web browsing, and running productivity tools without any noticeable performance issues.
The inclusion of a 128GB SSD provides fast storage and quick boot-up times. I appreciate the snappy response when launching applications and the ability to access my files swiftly. While the storage capacity may be modest, it is sufficient for my needs, and I can always expand it using external storage options if required.
The laptop's keyboard is comfortable to type on, with well-spaced keys and a decent tactile feedback. Whether I'm typing out emails or working on documents for an extended period, I find the keyboard to be responsive and conducive to my typing speed. The touchpad is also accurate and responsive, further enhancing the overall user experience.
In terms of connectivity, the laptop offers a variety of ports, including USB Type-A and Type-C ports, HDMI, and an SD card reader. This versatility allows me to connect to a wide range of devices and peripherals, making data transfer and multimedia connectivity hassle-free.
While the laptop is not designed for heavy gaming, it handles casual gaming and multimedia with ease. I can enjoy my favorite games from the Windows Store and stream videos without any major performance hiccups. The integrated graphics deliver smooth visuals, providing an enjoyable entertainment experience.
Battery life is a crucial aspect for me, especially when I'm on the move. The HP 14" laptop provides decent battery performance, allowing me to work or browse the web for several hours on a single charge. It gives me the flexibility to work from different locations without constantly worrying about finding a power outlet.
Pros:
Compact 14" display for portability and productivity.
Reliable performance with the AMD Athlon processor.
Efficient multitasking with 4GB memory.
Fast storage and quick boot-up times with the 128GB SSD.
Comfortable keyboard and responsive touchpad.
Versatile connectivity options for various devices.
Decent battery life for on-the-go usage.
Cons:
While the HP 14" Laptop performs admirably for everyday tasks, the 4GB memory may be limiting for resource-intensive applications or multitasking with numerous demanding programs simultaneously. However, for regular use, it provides a smooth experience without any major hindrances.

It has done me very good for the time I have had this laptop, definitely useful for school. I did use it for gaming briefly and while it runs smoothly for games like The Sims 4, the storage capacity definitely is not large enough to sustain.

I will start off by saying, this is the first low-end computer I have purchased (or used) in a long time, so please take that into consideration.
I purchased this for work, I needed a small, light, and compact computer that can do basic computer stuff, such as using Microsoft Office, Filling PDFs, and browsing the web.
This computer is perfect for that with one small complaint.
Out of the box, upon initial setup, before even connecting to the internet, it was almost impossible to use. It was so slow I almost considered returning it. I understand it's a low-end system, but out of the box, it should not be this way. Thankfully, after a few hours of letting it update, the issue resolved itself. However, HP shouldn't have sent it out in this condition if they knew it was going to act like that upon initial setup. If I didn't have access to internet at that time, I would have returned it assuming it was defective, thankfully I did have access and talked myself into being patient and updating it.
I have been using this for a little under a week, and it has worked well for me, it can even run basic games such as low-graphic Minecraft and arcade games.
Be careful with the storage, if you find yourself filling it up a lot I suggest purchasing a 256GB or more SD Card and using it as secondary storage. you can go up to 1TB from what I understand, but please don't quote me on that as I have not tested it.

Very pleased with this after a few days of use. It's very fast, multitasks with three or four windows, one of which is a video stream, without problems. It has a very quiet fan. I've had one unexplained freeze-up per day which is why I've only given it four stars. I think the only difference between this and the 14-fq0013dx is the touchpad. I generally use a wireless external keyboard and mouse, so this is not an issue for me.
I had some difficulty getting the resolution set properly on my 1 yr old external Dell monitor, so it wasn't quite plug and play, but I went into the advanced display settings and got everything straightened out.

I got this laptop for my Mom and she loves it. It's able to keep up with her daily tasks such as web browsing, document writing, and the odd print job. However, I did add an extra stick of ram, making the total 8gb and enables dual channel. Overall, for around $300 with support for Windows 11 and Ubuntu 22.04+ it's a steal.
