Went through a home office remodel and love this all-in-one printer. It was easy to establish the wireless functionality and it is great to be able to position my printer in the closet. It is also nice to have the tray feeder which I use to scan documents. I have also used the fax capabilities to send a document. That was easy to initiate as well. This was a great office tool for the price.

Print Quality Issues and No Help from HP or BB

Oh, this printer! Things started so well, but the print quality issues the past 4 months have been a headache and a half. Anything I print using the colors blue and yellow is a mess. HP knows of this problem and sent customers a message and new ink cartridges. But that didn't fix it, the same issue. I tried to reach out to HP multiple times to get help, but everything is automated and goes nowhere. 4 months later, after the issue began, there is no solution. I then reached out to Best Buy. No solution, after HOURS of talking to Best Buy's customer service and Geek Squad (who were all very kind, I might add, but my call was dropped a few times, and I had to call back and explain everything from the beginning, which was frustrating). Now, I am out of the money I spent on this printer just 8 months after purchasing it. I didn't buy their extended warranty plan because this printer 2k+ great reviews....and why would I not think a $200 printer would last at least a couple of years without any issues. My previous printer was $50 and lasted 8 years without any issue. I purchased this printer because of the reviews stating its quality. I use it for work to send presentation pages to clients. I cannot send them what this thing prints out. I am a designer; things need to look nice for me to present to my clients. I now go to a printer around the corner to have things printed. This printer was a waste of money for me. It has tested my patience and a huge headache. With all the other good reviews, I can only guess I received a dud. But the lack of customer service from HP and the fact that Best Buy won't stand by their product after less than a year of ownership is really disappointing. This will be the last HP product I buy.

      Hi, Meg.

I’m sorry to hear that your printer has rendered prints of poor quality and that you’ve gone through such an ordeal attempting to remedy the situation without success. I can certainly understand why you’d be exasperated by this point. With that in mind, I’ll offer some resources I hope will help you find a resolution.

As you point out, HP has identified a manufacturing issue on specific production lots of supplies that can affect print quality like you’ve encountered. This can also cause a cartridge-recognition error. HP recently released new firmware to help protect your printer from this.

You can resolve the problem by following the steps below:

      1. Visit our official support site: support.hp.com
      2. In the section called “Identify your product for manuals and specific product information” insert your printer’s serial number and click “submit.”
      3. Scroll down and click the tile with “Are you having print quality issues or getting an incompatible cartridge message?”
      4. Proceed as instructed.

If the problem persists, I suggest that you contact us directly at +1 800-474-6836 so we can help you assess the situation and find a solution. (Please note that because of restrictions on personal movement and workplace attendance associated with the COVID-19 pandemic, wait times for agents are longer than normal. Thanks in advance for your understanding.) To expedite the process, I recommend gathering the following information before the call:

      - Model number
      - Serial number
      - Your location
      - Case number (from any previous contact with HP support)

I'll also mention that HP printers have a one-year warranty from their purchase date that covers hardware as well as ink supplies, so if it comes to that, you might consider making use of it. You can verify the warranty using the following link:
      - support.hp.com/us-en/checkwarranty

Overall I give this HP OfficeJet Pro 8035e 5 out of 5 stars. HP is known for its printing solutions and reliability. There were a few minor items that could be better but overall it is an excellent home or office printing solution. I recommend this printer to anyone looking for a home or office printing solution. PROS: - Easy set up and use. - Small footprint. - Large paper tray. - All home office functions supported: print, scan, copy and fax. - Wired or wireless connection. You can place printer anywhere Wi-Fi is present. - Duplex printing. - HP Smart app. - 6 months free printing plus $30 credit. The credit duration depends on the ink plan chosen. CONS: • Some minor set up issues. The printer is well packaged in a box. You take the printer out of the box, remove some tape and plug it in. The electric cord is 5ft long so plan accordingly. Remember this can be used as a wireless printer so you can place it anywhere you have Wi-Fi. You can also connect using a network cable. You will need to pull out the small yellow plastic piece where the network connection is. There is a 4 step quick start guide with the printer. After it is plugged in, you follow the on printer screen prompts to complete the setup. While following the prompts, you will print an alignment page. You then scan the alignment printed page and the printer verifies the print heads are aligned. A pretty cool feature if you ask me. The last step is to download the HP Smart app on you android or iOS phone. This is where I determined the wireless network connection step was missed during the printer setup. I used the options on the printer screen menu to connect to my network. It was easy. You download and install the HP Smart app on your phone and computer. I first installed it on my phone. You see the option to set up a new printer. Here you are asked if you want to participate in the ink program. Recognize that if you do this, you are agreeing to HP monitoring your printer usage; and, agreeing to only using HP ink. I mention this as some may have an issue with this. You automatically get 6 months of 700 pages per month of usage. After you enroll, you are notified that replacement ink is on the way. For your ink plan details, you will see these options: • $0.99 = 15 pages per month. • $2.99 = 50 pages per month (I picked this option. This provided another 10 months of ink for the $30 credit I was provided). • $4.99 = 100 pages per month (this was the default). • $11.99 = 300 pages per month. • $18.99 = 500 pages per month. • $24.99 = 700 pages per month. You can also see all of your printer status information in the HP Smart app. It is a well-designed app that is easy to use. You must download and install the HP Smart app on your computer to print from your computer. I tested all of the printer functions and they were easy to use. In each case I used the menu on the printer for the function. Here is a brief description of the printer menu options: - Shortcuts: use this to set up quick access to the functions you use most. - Copy: You have a choice of document, ID card or photo - Scan: you can scan to you network computer or USB. Windows Fax and Scan is used for the scanning from the printer. You can choose flatbed scan or document feeder scan. - Photo: I did not use this function. This function will print photos from a connected USB device. The options are View and Print or Passport Photos - Fax: I did not use this feature as I do not have a phone line to connect. Run the Setup Wizard after connecting a phone line. You have the following options: Send Now, Send Later, Reprint and Setup. After the fax is sent, you will receive a fax status page.

I have always bought HP products and never had a problem. Last printer I bought was NOT an HP. It was a mid price range printer and worked ok for awhile. It finally died so I bought another HP! Lesson learned! Geek squad set it up for me and the tech even said it was the best choice for my Mac. It even had the free ink option. I’m very happy with it!

Review of HP Office Pro 8035e Hardware Benefit: Aside of standard features seen in any printer, HP Office Pro 8035e has: 1. Secure aspect: network connection and password 2. IPv6 3. Basic aspect of enterprise level feature: print if the owner of the print is near to the printer 4. High support via mobile application 5. HP+ as service A-Printer Setup A1. Insert the ink cartridges following the instruction shown in the printer touchscreen display. A2.Setting Connection: aside of cable connection for power and phone, internet can be setup via ethernet or wifi. Connecting via WiFi, takes two different steps. One from the printer self in which need to select the WiFi name, and from the Mobile Application add the printer and indicate the wifi Connection, then it doesn’t ask to enter password and automatically recognize and setup. A3. As part of initial setting, the instruction help to calibrate the printing. Note on this aspect HP does the calibration by printing lines and figures, then scanning to check it. A4. As it has dependency on Mobile App, need to personalize to user own need and these are: A4.1 Allow Printing from Anywhere, Require Private Pickup, to name one of key option I find important. But the application provide wide variety of option to adjust other preferences like Quiet Mode, Tray and Paper, Cloud Scanning. B.HP+ This is an addition that comes with the printer and it is part of Printer Setup A4 above reference, but also comes other services: Plan of ink supply based on number of pages. Setup shortcut, which allow to prepare the printer to scan for instance to Google Drive or Dropbox. Or setup an email to which send the print via which would be printed. The service has unique benefit based on the application: Security Monitoring that consist of Secure Power On, Secure Firmware, Protected Memory, Secure Network Connection; Print Anywhere that consist of options for Allow Printing from Anywhere and Require Private Pickup; Safe Automatic update; Password Set Now, specific to plan, during initial setting of account in the application, HP list pricing plan as of date of the review: $0.99 15 pages/month, $2.99 50 pages/month, $4.99 100 pages/month; $11.99 300 pages/month; $24.99 700 pages/month. Upon choosing one plan, next day immediately HP create order and ship the inks. C. The experience Aside of normal expectation, it worth to remark the ease of printing from any devices. From the device as soon as select to print, the printer get recognized from the network if it is the first time. Scanning to cloud is ease once the where to store has been setup properly. Aspect where that hasn’t been straight was : a. printing via email. Compared to other brand in which if send to an email assigned to the printer would print, with HP Office Pro 8035e I couldn’t see the printing. b. Scanning to cloud is not immediate effect, Meaning, after scanning completed, the file doesn’t show immediately in the associated cloud storage, at least this has been the experience with Google Drive. Compared to other brand I used, it takes longer time. Naturally this depend on each person’s context of network connection. c. HP+ service is needed for certain feature which if upon subscription is expired or not renewed loose the benefit of application. But it is not clear which depend on HP+ and which doesn’t. Another aspect is that while setting the printer and the application for first time it ask to provide credit card information for the subscription. Although it is optional, subscribing to it feels bit awkward as first step of setting the printer. Continuing with HP+, based on the subscription, HP notify it has been created the order and shipped. But the shipping tracking doesn’t appear in the app, instead need to check via web entering again user and password. The shipping method is Ground so expect couple of week to receive. Note on Free Trial of 6 Months: have mind it is up to 700 pages according to HP from my account. Conclusion: The printer has basics for small office need with aggregation of some of feature, security and service provided for large enterprises. It is flexible such to print from any devices in the network by anyone and the user or owner has control of it via mobile application, and service via HP+. As last comment on HP+, at HP website doesn't describe as service or paid service while the the process of setting up the printer offer paid plan and the comparing table from HP website does strictly mention benefit of paid service. Bit odd how they describe it. See https://www8.hp.com/us/en/printers/hp-plus.html And although I did like it and recommend it, not very sold to the idea of dependency to additional monthly paid plan.
