So far this has been good. We have 4 long hair dogs so I have to vacuum twice a day. I like that I can detach the hose to get to spots I can’t with the vacuum. I love that it’s cordless but I can see the battery goes down fast when you switch to the carpet mode.

Could’ve been a perfect one BUT Shark does not have the side edges brush!! It’s okay for the edge clean but not as effective as it should’ve been like every other shark vacs out there. That’s the only biggest flaw other than that I also wish the hose attachment clips on a bit better to the pole but it’s no biggy for me. Powerful suction I might add, a lot more powerful for sure than the IZ142 models so that is a BIG PLUS. Overall this vacuum comes in great handy, I personally think it’s BETTER than the Upright APEX.

This Shark vacuum works great and is more intuitive to assemble its parts than a previous model we have. Unfortunately it only comes with one battery and Best Buy doesn’t carry the extra battery. It has to be ordered from Shark.

I absolutely LOVE this vacuum! Its so handy to be able to disconnect the long wand and vacuum under end tables and around the bottom of the couch where dog hair collects most. It is very effective at picking up small and even large debris. Chewed up pieces of dog toy are no match for this guy! Our old vacuum wouldnt pick up chunks of rubber toy like this one does. I would highly recommend it...its very unique and vastly useful!

Great for hard surface floors and nice to be cord free. Does a fair job on carpet but I still prefer my shark corded vacuum when cleaning our carpet floors.

Great cordless portability vacuum, with a battery

The concept and the portability are ideal to the consumer. My major issue with this comes down to the battery life of the vacuum cleaner. The max time you can get out of full charge with low eco smode setting is 1 hour, which barely has any power suction to it. Trying to charge the battery after using it is another disappointment. If the battery is to warm, it will take longer to charge, until it cool downs to room temperature. Shark could have included a larger battery or a second one.

I'd really hoped this would be a great vacuum. But it's got the suction power of a gnat. The only thing I like it the cleaning brushes. They are rubber and have great pick up for dog hair. The battery doesn't last very long even on level 2. When you take the wand off to reach under the bed or over your head the rest of the machine can't stay upright at all. I'll be returning this for one with a cord as long as it's more powerful.

If I could only use one word to describe the Shark Cordless Vortex Pro it would be POWERFUL. To be a cordless vacuum and the power and versatility this vacuum has is second to none.
This is the 2nd Shark product we own and as with the corded version it doesn’t disappoint. It comes w/ several different attachments that make cleaning our home so much easier. I love that this vacuum has the detachable “pod” that make cleaning under tables, chairs, etc. so much easier.
Our home is 3000 square feet with all hardwood flooring, and we have two dogs, one of which, sheds constantly, the Shark Cordless Vertex Pro makes it easier to hit the problem areas everyday. And I have to be honest, I was somewhat skeptical about how long the battery would last, but we can vacuum the entire house on a fully charged battery with still battery left “in the tank”. Being cordless, and not having to change outlets in every room cuts down on vacuuming time as well.
The outside of the box says total home cleaning, and it truly is. With the hose that can extend to reach high up places, and the light that allows you to see those “hidden areas”, the dust collector seems to be a little bigger than our corded version. This is a truly remarkable product that Shark has produced. I’m not surprised, they are in my opinion the top of the line in this market.
I would HIGHLY recommend this product.

I like the portability but the no wrap around isn’t working well. All my dog hair isn’t getting sucked into the bin. It’s staying at the end. Idk if I just got a bad one or what. But this one didn’t work well with my great pyrenees and German shepherd dogs. I was really looking forward to it too.

Versatile vacuum with some limitations

The Shark Cordless Lift-Away vacuum is a pretty unique concept and a great idea, that just isn't quite a home run...yet.
Out of the box (like most Shark vacuums--I've owned several) it's very easy to unpack and 'snap together'. It took all of five minutes to get together, and that includes a minute or two to look over the diagrams to make sure I was doing it right.
The battery has some charge to it, but Shark recommends charging it fully, and draining it fully on first use before charging it again to get the most out of the battery. I obviously have no idea what kind of life span to expect from the battery, but given it's size and unique-to-this-vacuum design I can't imagine it's cheap to replace. I haven't done any research on this yet, but hopefully Shark has plans for other devices that will use this same battery, otherwise you're looking at a 'lifetime' expense for an already expensive vacuum. Best Buy's 'geek squad' protection includes one battery replacement--probably worth researching the replacement cost and seeing which is cheaper (I'm betting 5-years of geek squad is cheaper than one battery--plus covering everything else for 5 years? Probably worth it!).
The vacuum itself is pretty easy to use, though it's a little tricky to 'snap' the body back onto the stick portion of the vacuum. The "led" placement that shows battery life remaining and which power setting you're on could have been placed better--as it is it's awkward since it faces away from where you are holding it, and requires moving it in order to read it. Not sure why they didn't face the back direction--that would have made a lot more sense.
The big plus to this vacuum is that it is fairly portable--it's fantastic on stairs, or anyplace that it's harder or awkward to bring a normal, heavy vacuum. The Shark is noticeably lighter than every upright I've ever had to carry, so that is a blessing. They obviously worked very hard to make this light-weight, and they did a great job. It's still a little awkward since the 'body' has to be carried--there just isn't a good way to do this without both hands.
The vacuum has three settings. Shark says that the 'normal' (middle) strength is good enough for every day jobs. I have three kids and a black dog that sheds a lot, so I feel pretty sure Shark's idea of 'every day' and mine are a little different. It does do a decent job, but I found myself switching to the high power setting fairly often.
This brings me to the biggest drawback of this vacuum. The battery life on the 'high' setting is abysmal. We got maybe 10 minutes out of a fully charged battery trying to clean our stairs--granted, it had been a while since we'd done them so they didn't look great, but 10 minutes wasn't long enough to complete even half of the job. I imagine if we do them on a more regular basis we won't have to use the high setting, but it's a real drawback that when we do it won't be for very long. The 'normal' setting can get a little over an hour, so that's a huge difference. Again, it does a decent job, but even switching for a few seconds to high seriously affects the overall time--that hour drops to 30 minutes after using the high setting for 2 minutes. The battery is already far and away the heaviest part of the vacuum, so until some portion of the technology improves that will just be 'how it is'.
Overall it's a great concept that's executed fairly well--just keep your old vacuum around for the big jobs, or for when the battery runs out (it takes a few hours to charge back to full). I recommend it due to the light weight and great ease of use, just keep in mind that you'll either want another battery right out of the gate, or you'll have to vacuum in 'spurts' while waiting for the vacuum to charge.

Worked for a couple of months, the battery died and customer support was of no assistance. Next vacuum will not be a Shark due to poor build quality and longevity. Dyson should be much better longterm.

Upright, Stick, or Cannister Vacuum? Yes it is!

Can’t decide between an upright, stick, and cannister vac? Now you don’t have to as the Shark Cordless Vertex Pro can assume any of these forms.
Most of time an upright is the best fit. I found this less tiring to use and my stick vac. Moving the weight of the vacuum motor, battery and dust bin down low where it is supported by the wheels and not my wrist is noticeable. The bottom pivots readily without going to far. This works great for 90% of my cleaning.
The “Pod”, what vertex calls the motor, battery, filter that gives the suctions can be easily lifted off the upright so the power head can under furniture where an upright cannot fit.
The hose can be easily disconnected from the upright to give you a more portable canister vac for above ground cleaning. I used the Pod with the various attachments to clean furniture with the upholstery and crevice tool, cleaned off some tables and even went over a set of drapes with the dust brush. Some of this was with the pod mounted on the upright, some not. Its very versatile that it allows you decide.
The hose handle was very comfortable and sturdy to use with the different attachments. Using attachment with a stick vacuum is not so easy as the vacuum even without the stick is quite long and heavy to hold. The Vertex excels here.
Going up the wood stairs with just the Pod to clean the steps with the dusting brush was easy. There is a motorized pet tool that may help with the carpets if you have them.
I wish there was a compartment or way to carry at least some of the attachments with the vacuum. When you come across a problem where you need one, it’s back to go get them, or you can carry them along in a bag from room to room which is not ideal.
There is plenty of suction power for carpets. Noticeably more than my battery stick vacuums. The brush roller seems to really work well on carpet. I have mostly hard floors with some carpets and this vacuum did a great job with both.
The dust cup is easy to empty and clean. The LED lights are bright to light up dark places like closets and under furniture. Why don’t all vac’s have this? The HEPA filter worked well, my allergies did not kick up at all, I smelled no escaping dust, it was very effective.
The front soft roller is very easy to remove should a Lego or other toy get pulled in. Just one button on the side and it comes right out. The back one is a bit more work, you need to turn two quick fasteners with a flat blade or coin to remove the bottom cover. Not hard. Then you have access to clear any blockages. The design of the rear roller should prevent it getting bound up with hair if you have pets.
I love that this has a removable battery. This means a user replaceable battery when the time comes. No need to toss the vacuum or pay for someone tech to open the vacuum to replace the battery, which probably isn’t cost effective. Or if you have a very large home, you can buy a second battery to keep the vac going.
The external battery charger would be useful if I had multiple batteries. I would not want to lose the easy to replace battery, it will fail at some point and need replacing. But as I only need one battery, having to find a home for the separate battery charger base is a bit of a waste and adds clutter to a table. I would prefer to charge it in the vac. Make the separate charger an option for those that need more than one battery.
On the handle is the bright and easy to read “IQ Display”. The battery level increments by 10% jumps as the battery drains down during use. My other stick vacuums have just three bars, so this is much more useful ear the end. 10 increments are a good compromise between usefulness and the screen becoming so busy it becomes a distraction. There is a red filter LED icon that activates if there is a blockage, or your filters are too clogged to allow adequate air flow.
The three buttons have positive feel with a rubbery cover. Much better than hard plastic button used on others. Choose floor or carpet, the later spins up the beater brush for deep cleaning carpets. Set your suction level. For hard floors Eco mode was fine. For carpets I stepped up to Deep Clean with bumps on Boost mode for walkways and heavier items.
One downside is you cannot switch directly from Boost to Deep Clean, you need to pass through eco which I was not using on carpets. I rocker type button to allow going up or down through the 3 power levels would be welcome.
The manual is about 16 pages and a quick read to get familiar with the unit and any future troubleshooting if needed. Worth a quick skim on some of its unique features.
It’s lighter in weight than a traditional upright, but heavier than my stick vac. The extra power is welcome with one deep carpet I have. If you have all hard floors and more than one story in your house, Sharks stick vac is a great fit. If you have all or a mix of plush carpets, this will surely be of value.
This is a good vac with plenty of suction power, many useful features, a long 5-year warranty at a good price. There’s great value here. A few minor things could be better, the option to carry at least some attachments around would and toggle up and down the suction power would make cleaning easier and more productive. These few things prevent a perfect score in my mind, I’d say closer to 4.5 stars. If you have deep carpets, hate dragging a cord around and finding a place to plug in at every room, this is a top vac to consider.
